I have been on celexa since it first hit the market - many, many years. I am up to 80 mg/day. I've also gained more than 50 pounds! How can I get off this drug and start weight loss and a healthy attitude? I swim 3 times/week and walk the other two days and am also on Nutri-system. No weight loss!! Please help.

I NEVER have had any problems but now I do..I love the way I feel on Celexa, Im losing weight (which is a plus)..I just don't like the sexual side...if this is a temporary side effect that would be wonderful!! If this isn't temporary I think I need to look into something else. Please help!!

I am at the 3 month mark after weening myself from Celexa. I struggle every day with weight loss. I measure everything I put into my mouth. I exercise every day. I have only lost 4 pounds. I now realize how horrible Celexa made me feel. I was completely exhausted all of the time...didn't have the ability to care about anything. I feel so alive without the drug but my sex drive still hasn't come back. I don't like being in public anymore due to my weight.

t on it at all, the only bad side effect was loss of sex drive and libido etc. no weight gain or loss that i noticed. I have bipolar 1, and was on other medication at the time. as you probably know everyone is different when it comes to these types of medication so please don't be discouraged by my comment. It's not a wash-out period, it's the withdrawal. Celexa physiologically leaves your system within hours, but the brain doesn't adapt very well sometimes to not having the drug in the system and goes through a withdrawal. I can be significant or minor or non-existent, but to play it safe these meds are tapered down slowly to minimize any possible withdrawal. Actually, meds that wash out of the system more slowly, like Prozac, tend to have fewer withdrawal problems.

In fact, Meridia, a weight-loss drug, is an SNRI. Another SNRI, Effexor, has no weight-loss properties, but it is an antidepressant. This shows that tiny changes in chemical structure can have big effects on the brain. I take Wellbutrin which is a SNRI, I have no loss of sex drive what so ever, and while I have put on weight I don't think it is related to the drug. No matter how little I ate nor how much I exercised-the weight kept packing on. I never had a hard time maintaining my weight before the Celexa. I am now overweight and even though I have weened myself off of the drug the pounds are still difficult to lose. This drug ruined my physicality. I was fit and active in a healthy, strong body before I started. In just a year and 4 months it made me deteriorate into a fat muscle-less wad.

Guilty as charged but a good tool if a patient is truly their own best advocate. Unexplained Weight Loss/Appetite Loss/Depression are all symptoms of various cancers, thyroid issues. So...I'm scared and sad and a bit at a loss. The weight continues to drop (indicated more by clothes fit than scale) and it seems to my eyes to be more muscle than fat. I've been on Celexa for quite sometime, and it continues to work very well. If it reaches a point where it doesn't, consult with your doctor, I'm sure there is an alternative. I haven't gained any weight and it's my understanding the weight gain is not a side effect of this drug. I recently lost 40 lbs. I would not take this at night without consulting with your doctor first.

I've tried Topamax and had really great results with all of my disorders - bulimia, drinking, depression. It even caused me to lose weight, which I loved of course. My Way Out is mostly for drinkers because topa has shown to be very helpful in that area. The worst side effect for me on topa was feeling extremely irritable.

Hi. I was just wondering if going off Celexa would help ensure I get some of my memory back. My memory has become progressively worse since I went on the drug years ago. Mostly short-term, but to some extent long-term as well. I am heading to a masters program and later on hope to pursue a PhD, so I can no longer accept this issue. I have a feeling that my working memory has decreased as well, which is unacceptable.

t have much of an appetite before the Celexa, but now I have zero appetite. Is this a normal side effect of Celexa or just the stress? When I take a Klonopin after work, in a few hours I can eat a small but decent meal.

I started taking celexa about 5 months ago for mild depression and more recently phentermine for weight loss but these jerking movements were happening way before the phentermine. Thanks group! I will be getting my lab numbers and posting them. He put me on the weight lose drug because I'm gaining weight at an alarming rate! I just gained over 5 pounds in two weeks. I will not start the weight lose pill for two weeks so I'm going to see if the combo of Cytomel and Synthroid will help with this. Thanks for the feedback. I don't go back to the doctor for a while.

In addition, that blood work I mentioned...I was out of range for Lymphocytes and apparently, a fast is required prior go Lipase/Amylase testing. I was not told to fast. So...I'm scared and sad and a bit at a loss.

I found Celexa to numb feeling, more than it lifted them. I had to stop taking it because I turned into an icequeen and couldn't feel any emotions.

Sometimes the brain is so powerful that it can override the drugs side affects of appetite suppression. Truthfully, some people happen to lose weight while on the drug, some people don't. But the drug itself is not prescribed for weightloss. I would research other methods of weight loss as opposed to going into drugs, where the side effects will eventually wear off anyway. SSRIs can cause weight loss during short term use--however, they are known to cause weight gain after long term use. This is what happened to me. At first I lost about 5 pounds-then after about 6 months the weight packed on uncontrollably. I went from a size 4 to a size 14 in a year and a half. I was a ballet dancer and active-plus, I am a vegetarian who doesn't overeat. My chest went from a small B to almost a D. I am so ashamed of my body that I don't want to dance anymore.
