Celexa vs prozac drugs

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa vs prozac drugs

celexa

415867 tn?1323365503 Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t. In this case, it is not a surprise to have idiosyncratic responses, since the chemical structure of all the SSRIs is so similar.
1427534 tn?1283119534 capegirlnoshoes, can you support your statements with evidences apart from the fact that Celexa is 2 years younger than Prozac (FDA approval dates)? Your statements are biased. One drug does not fit all, everyone is different.
1352638 tn?1277025232 I have not taken either Prozac or Celexa, so I have no personal experience with either of these drugs. Hopefully others will respond who do have first hand experience with both. We can offer you our opinions and share our experiences, but this is something that you need to work out with your doctor. We all react to medication differently and sometimes it takes a period of trial and error before we find the one that is best for us.
Avatar m tn I was then moved onto Prozac a decade later. Over the years my doctor has tried various other meds. I have kept a journal, and for some reason all ssnri class drugs make my depression horrifically worse;that is, a sense of dread and panic set in that is dark and horribly foreboding. I respond well to lexapro or celxa, but those cause my sexual drive to drop to a level that drives my wife nuts.
Avatar f tn ve been taking Citalopram 40mg (Celexa) for anxiety and it helps wonderfully, but the fatigue is becoming ridiculous. Have been taking this for several years. Is it worth talking to my doctor about switching to another medication? thanks.
646410 tn?1247251853 Some medications (like Prozac) can have a side effect of apathy. If you have to get off a drug in that class, please taper it slowly. I was getting brain zaps while getting off Prozac, Effexor (the worst!), and even Cymbalta.
Avatar f tn Effexor (an SNRI as mentioned above) is also a tough one to get off, compared to other ADs. Lexapro, Zoloft, Celexa and Prozac are typically the easier tolerated ADs (again, everyone is different). I personally would recommend sticking with the SSRIs vs the SNRIs for anxiety, because due to the fact that their primary mechanism of action affects norepinephrine (aka adrenaline), they are quite activating, and can cause more anxiety.
1425157 tn?1311651679 Just to clarify, the only cross-tapering I know of is using Prozac. Zoloft isn't weaker than Celexa and both have a very short half-life compared to most meds. Prozac is the only ssri with a relatively long half-life. Of course, whether cross tapering actually works at all is another question and probably very individual. Just wanted to say this, because Zoloft is a very potent med and potency itself is very individual, depending on how well a particular individual metabolizes it.
Avatar f tn Hi i have been on prozac for it will be a month on friday , and it made me feel worse than good my anxiety seems have hit the roof thus resulting in having symptoms of depersonalization / derealization which let me tell you is scary as hell,:( so i went back to my docs today and told her how my anxiety is 10 times worse than it was as i got identified with GAD ( general anxiety disorder) which is id say harder to cope with than depression at the mo, so she suggest i switch from 20mg prozac to
11487567 tn?1418754128 t imagine very many people taking three different drugs that all target serotonin receptors at the same time. Celexa and Lexapro are essentially the same drug, with Lexapro being Celexa with some of the molecules cut out. This is weird indeed. I wonder why the Zoloft wasn't tried at a more therapeutic dose instead of layering on the same kind of drugs.
Avatar f tn I think you made a good choice. Lexapro is literally the only SSRI I've taken that has not caused severe side effects. I have a very difficult time with drugs and this one was a godsend for me. (I've tried Celexa, Zoloft, Paxil, & Effexor.) I took the generic for a month and didn't notice any difference in it's effectiveness versus Lexapro.
Avatar f tn So are these side effects of something new every day pretty normal? I will say compared to Celexa, Prozac is so far pretty tolerable minus the first 3 hours after I take it. I just feel "odd" lately. Nothing horrible but concerning. With Celexa however, I was super nauseous like motion sickness, my head was so painful like it was in a vice, ear ringing/buzzing---absolutely intolerable and that was at a 15mg dose.
Avatar m tn Celexa tends to be a better med generally for anxiety than Prozac because Prozac tends to be stimulating, though Prozac is considered an easier med to take and especially to stop taking. If you quit Celexa cold turkey and just switched to Prozac, you could be suffering from withdrawal, or it cold be side effects of Prozac, or it could be the problem I mentioned, that Prozac tends not to work as well when anxiety is the main problem, though for some it works fine. Lots to consider.
Avatar m tn I was on Prozac for years, built up a tolerance, switched to Celexa for a couple of years and now am back on the Prozac and it's working fine. To boost it's effectiveness, my doc added Wellbutrin for a while. There are many combos that work better for people than just one single anti-depressant. I have tried every anti-depressant out there, but the one that worked the first time (Prozac) still works the best for me (if I take breaks in between or use an adjunct med).
492898 tn?1222243598 I have heard many bc patients mention that they were switched from Prozac to Celexa when they were taking Prozac and started on Tamoxifen.
Avatar f tn ADs and BP disorder are always an interesting conundrum. I know that there have been extensive studies regarding a Zyprexa/Prozac combination for BP disorder. Those studies have shown to be effective. If you and your pdoc are thinking about going with Prozac, I would probably look into using it with Zyprexa. The ADs can be hit or miss, especially with BP folks. I know that I (along with many BP friends) have had serious issues with all of the ADs.
Avatar n tn I have been taking prozac 20mg for 2 weeks. I want to start back on celexa of 80mg which I was on for 10 years. Can I stop cold turkey on prozac and how do I start back on celexa?
Avatar f tn i stopped, then restarted prozac after trying other meds. i personally didn't experience any side effects with prozac either times.
Avatar n tn Was taking Prozac for 15 years and stopped working, switched to Zoloft for 1 month, side effects severe inner shakiness and panic. Switched to Celexa, same thing. Have tried most all of them 15 years ago and Prozac seemed to be the one that worked without severe side effects and it worked very well at 20 mgs, then pooped out a several months ago. Upping the dose didn't work either.
Avatar n tn There can be side effects with SSRIs like Celexa and Prozac. When I was on Zoloft, my sex drive definitely went down, however, this is not the case with everyone. Just because you experienced side effects with Prozac does not mean they will be the same with Celexa. Just remember, that there is typically an 'adjustment period' whenever you start, stop, or adjust dosages with these medications, so being patient is someitmes warranted in my opinion....
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if higher doses of Celexa (or any antidepressant for that matter) would in turn cause greater weight How do you find celexa with weight gain, is it bad?
Avatar f tn Has anyone had any experience with Topomax for binging? Any other meds? I take celexa and only 10 mg and it's decreased my irritability but not my binging and purging. I take it for anxiety, but I still am so so anxious and more like very keyed up and tensed up in my muscles and even at night I find myself tenseing up when thinking about whether I will or won't feel like binging and purging tomorrow.
