Celexa side effects elderly

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa side effects elderly

celexa

Avatar m tn I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.
Avatar f tn Has anybody gotten a stuffy head and "funny feeling" eyes as a side effect from SSRI's. I have had these side effects before but they went away after a month or so. I'm on Celexa and this stuffy feeling(like you are coming down with a cold) seems to be sticking with me. The med is working well except for this uncomfortable feeling in and around my eyes.
Avatar f tn So today my Celexa dose was upped from half a pill to 1 whole pill and the side effects are coming back like when I first started... Sweaty, can't sleep, headache, stiff neck, clenching teeth... Etc. I don't know what to do. I tried taking stuff for it, including an Oxy but still no change. What can I take to make these side effects not so bad? I don't see the dr till Thursday, so I can't ask her... If anyone has any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
Avatar f tn My concern is that our friend seems to be caught in a downward spiral of overmedication, in which new drugs treat side effects of old drugs, but create new side effects. I am writing instead of him basically because he is so debilitated that he doesn't even have the energy or acumin to be asking probing questions.
1286779 tn?1400012806 I think Jaybay just gave you great advice. Lots of elderly have different side effects than the more common ones. Medications can easily interact and sometimes medications that have been fine for a long time all of a sudden aren't. A gerentologist probably is the best place to look for answers. When my mom was alive, we had a few kinks with her medications.
Avatar m tn My last Celexa dose was last Wednesday and this is Wednesday, a week later. The side effects of the drug continue as before. I am not having the electric zaps which are apparently a withdrawal symptom. Instead, I have just continued to feel the same side effects as when I was taking the drug. Not as bad but still pretty uncomfortable. Ironically, my insomnia is gone and I'm am sleeping well now. Has anyone out there experienced this with such a short course of Celexa (Citalapram)?
Avatar m tn re suffering withdrawal from the wellbutrin, or side effects from Celexa. Quitting an antidepressant abruptly is not advised -- although wellbutrin isn't one of the worst for withdrawal, they can all be difficult to stop taking and usually are tapered off. This is especially true when switching to a med in a completely class.
Avatar f tn I know how low these are but I have never been able to tolerate any meds at higher doses without massive side effects. I did do pretty well on Wellbutrin xl and could do 300mg but I can't afford it anymore and the generic doesn't work.
Avatar m tn Do these side effects sound normal? The tremors didn't start till taking celexa but I keep having those thoughts that it could be some serious disease and its really freaking me out. I've never felt tremors before and I truly feel scared. I have a tendency of obsessing over these thoughts which only makes matters worse.
Avatar m tn has told me to reduce it to 20 mg. I was wondering if there would be any side effects that I should know about while adjusting to the smaller dose?
Avatar m tn m afraid of the side effects that may come with it. Will this medication give me the same side effects as the Celexa did?
671285 tn?1292660161 Many of the symptoms you experienced are potential side effects of Celexa (aka Citalopram), namely agitation, anxiety, fatigue, drowsiness, sweating, and panic. There is no question that you did the right thing in immediately notifying your doctor of these side effects and I'm glad you did. While it is unfortunate that your experience with Celexa was a negative one, it is important not to generalize your experience to all antidepressants.
Avatar f tn ve recently been prescribed Celexa (I plan to do about 20 mg for 9 months to a year). I know that Celexa, like any SSRI, causes sexual side effects like low libido, erectile dysfunction, and anorgasmia. My question is: Will these side effects wear off after I stop the Celexa? Can anyone who has experience with Celexa or other SSRIs tell me if their sexual side effects wore off after the treatment was over?
Avatar n tn Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression.
Avatar n tn I used to be on prozac for severe anxiety and panic disorder, but stopped due to the side effects. I have been on celexa now for 3 days, and usually by now I would feel some side effects and I don't, which is good! I am still anxious right now, but I believe it is because I always get nervous about taking medications. I am one of those people who is convinced I will have a bad reaction to anything I take, so I know I need to just stick it out.
497348 tn?1283436066 The most common side effects associated with citalopram are nausea, dry mouth, vomiting, excessive sweating, headache, tremor, drowsiness, and inability to sleep. Overall, between 1 in 6 and 1 in 5 persons experience a side effect. Citalopram is also associated with sexual dysfunction. Some patients may experience withdrawal reactions upon stopping citalopram.
Avatar n tn t worry too much about coming off of the meds. It can be done slowly - and at your own pace. Also, the side-effects from Lexapro / Celexa tend to be milder than the older SSRIs (like Prozac). I had some edginess, dull headache, and some stomach aches for the first few days (but they were gone in a week or so). It takes a few weeks for the medication to kick in - typically 2 - 4 weeks. However, the full effect might take up to 12 weeks to be felt.
Avatar f tn I've been on Zoloft for almost two months (started off @ 50mg, then went to 100mg) for bad anxiety mixed in with a little depression and Xanax as needed. The Zoloft has helped my anxiety a lot but I have had bad side effects from it - almost constant weird/cloudy feeling in my head and headaches that are almost constant and so painful like no other headache I've ever had.
Avatar f tn I have had great success with Lexapro, but everyone is different. There are some initial side effects, but once they subsided for me, it really helped.
Avatar m tn I have been on Celexa 20mg for about 6 weeks. My doc has upped it to 30mg...what side effects should I expect?
Avatar n tn You can research it to better understand hard to explain in chemistry terms. The side effects of Lexapro tend to be less severe than Celexa also. The above answer that was left by Paxiled is all correct as well.
