Celexa or prozac

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa or prozac

celexa

446896 tn?1237802742 I think I am ready to try medication for my anxiety for the first time in my life. Right now I have two choices...Celexa or Prozac. My doctor prescribed Celexa, but gave me the choice of which SSRI I would like to try (since they are all similar). I am wondering if Prozac would be a better choice for me though, because my 16 yr old. cousin (daughter of my mother's identical twin sis) suffers from anxiety that mirrors my symptoms EXACTLY.
Avatar f tn Hi i have been on prozac for it will be a month on friday , and it made me feel worse than good my anxiety seems have hit the roof thus resulting in having symptoms of depersonalization / derealization which let me tell you is scary as hell,:( so i went back to my docs today and told her how my anxiety is 10 times worse than it was as i got identified with GAD ( general anxiety disorder) which is id say harder to cope with than depression at the mo, so she suggest i switch from 20mg prozac to
Avatar m tn If you quit Celexa cold turkey and just switched to Prozac, you could be suffering from withdrawal, or it cold be side effects of Prozac, or it could be the problem I mentioned, that Prozac tends not to work as well when anxiety is the main problem, though for some it works fine. Lots to consider.
492898 tn?1222243598 I have heard many bc patients mention that they were switched from Prozac to Celexa when they were taking Prozac and started on Tamoxifen.
Avatar f tn Still have anxiety and breakthrough panic attacks. He has given me the choice of lexapro or Zoloft. Since Celexa and lexapro are so similar, I'm concerned that the lexapro won't work given that the Celexa stopped working. On the other hand, he has warned me that Zoloft is more activating, which is not good for anxiety and panic. Thoughts? Advice? Similar experiences?
Avatar n tn There can be side effects with SSRIs like Celexa and Prozac. When I was on Zoloft, my sex drive definitely went down, however, this is not the case with everyone. Just because you experienced side effects with Prozac does not mean they will be the same with Celexa. Just remember, that there is typically an 'adjustment period' whenever you start, stop, or adjust dosages with these medications, so being patient is someitmes warranted in my opinion....
Avatar n tn I have been taking prozac 20mg for 2 weeks. I want to start back on celexa of 80mg which I was on for 10 years. Can I stop cold turkey on prozac and how do I start back on celexa?
Avatar n tn Is anyone here on Celexa or has ever been on it? I used to be on prozac for severe anxiety and panic disorder, but stopped due to the side effects. I have been on celexa now for 3 days, and usually by now I would feel some side effects and I don't, which is good! I am still anxious right now, but I believe it is because I always get nervous about taking medications. I am one of those people who is convinced I will have a bad reaction to anything I take, so I know I need to just stick it out.
Avatar n tn i think the problem would be best handled head on. i would take anti-anxiety medication like xanax or klonopin. i took prozac 60mg didn't do anything, i took celexa 60mg didn't do anything. im on zoloft 100mg now and still nothing. i know i've been on a lot of different medications, but thats what happens when you get involved with psychiatrists. good luck.
1330182 tn?1279815900 ) I am going to my Pdoc Wednesday and I am hoping he can put me on either Lexapro or Celexa.. Or even klonopin..
Avatar f tn Yes, the Prozac can make him hyper. Our child took Prozac at the same age as your son and she, too, did not do well on it. It did help her anxiety but seemed to take away her "filter" for saying or doing appropriate things. Our doctor then placed her on Effexor - which worked well but today she is on Celexa (citalopram is the generic term) and this seems to be the best "fit" for her.
Avatar f tn I am on Celexa which is being weined and Prozac was started yesterday. I cold turkey quit Lortab 60mg as f 6pm on Sunday after 8 months of use. Today when I get up too quickly, I become very dizzy and almost pass out. Am I in seratonin syndrome?
Avatar n tn This is a process called augmentation, but you only augment a primary medication that has been found to work but just not well enough. For depression, either celexa or wellbutrin would be a primary antidepressant to try first; usually it would be celexa if anxiety is present, as I assume it is or else the valium would be counterproductive. Wellbutrin is a more stimulating antidepressant, and so wouldn't usually be a primary med for someone with anxiety.
Avatar f tn Can anyone who has experience with Celexa or other SSRIs tell me if their sexual side effects wore off after the treatment was over? If the sexual side effects are permanent (as some on the internet claim), then it's not worth it t me to take the drug.
Avatar n tn t specifically approved for anxiety, neither was Prozac when it first came out, but it did help many people with anxiety. So has Celexa. Specific approvals are more for patentability than anything else -- to get a copycat drug patented and approved by FDA you have to show it treats something different than previous medications. So Prozac got approval for depression, but was always used for anxiety as well.
Avatar f tn I would think Prozac or Zoloft might be worth trying....probably Prozac moreso than the Zoloft first. Just my input...but something to keep in mind when talking to your doctor. You can ask him/her...for someone who has had a rough time with Lexapro/Celexa...what would be a reasonable alternative? The fact that you were on it before isnt a guarantee, but it's promising.
Avatar f tn I have been on Celexa for many many months now and about 6 weeks ago or so my Doc upped it too 40 mg. It is helping but not great, is this as good as it is gonna get and is it maybe time to try something else. I have tried many different ssris and srnis in the past. The only I have not been on is Paxil, tried prozac and had an awful reaction to it 2 weeks in. Any help or advice would be great..
1288270 tn?1301287612 Prozac and Celexa are quite different, in that Prozac has a long half life in the body and therefore leaves more slowly. This either results in fewer withdrawal problems, or the withdrawal happens later down the road, maybe a month later. Lexapro leaves the body quite a bit more quickly, and so you are much more subject to a bad withdrawal by quitting abruptly. None of these should be quit abruptly, but the short half life ones especially so.
Avatar f tn i do not drink caffiene and find if i overidulge on bad carbs and white sugar i will get very edgy. Maybe the prozac is not the right choice for you or maybe its too much?
Avatar n tn I was on prozac for 5 yrs it stopped working. I am taking celexa and wellbutrin, not the same. I know prozac works again after a break, I just need a ballpark idea of how long I have to be off prozac to go back on and have it work?
997928 tn?1252444237 i take 800 mg neurontin 4 times a day and added along with it is lamictal 150 mg 1 time daily, celexa 20 mg 1 time a day, prozac 80 mg 1 time a day and klonopin 1mg 4 times a day and i take remeron 30mg at bedtime has anyone ever took these combinations b4 ?
622511 tn?1373571503 Hi Dolfnlvr, and anyone in this forum that could shed some light on an answer, It's NotaHypo again, Listen I see you mention you are having success with "prozac"? I was under the impression that prozac also had a stmulant effect, which worries me, like effexor did, even though I know one is an SSRI and the other is an SNRI. I am on the fence after being a guinea pig to so many of these types of "antidepressants" with trying "daily prozac" OR Clexea .
