I have been on Celexa 20mg for about 6 weeks. My doc has upped it to 30mg...what side effects should I expect?

Whenever I adjust dosage of an SSRI like Celexa, there was an adjustment period where I would feel the same side effects as when I started the medication. But after a couple of weeks, everything would return to "normal." I know what you mean about medication. I was the exact same way the first time I took it. I was REALLY against it, but I found that it has helped me tremendously along with counseling. In my experience with anxiety, it can definitely come and go.
I am on celexa 5mg for 3 mo. I have started taking one every other night trying to get off them. I felt like I was losing my mind on them. I take zanax .
I been on 15 mg celexa for 5 weeks now and it has helped me a little some of my anxiety symthoms have got better but I still feel like I can't breath and scared to be home alone because I have to be around people so if something bad happens someone can help me. Is this normal? or is my dose to low?
Celexa is a medication that has been found effective in treating both depression and/or anxiety. It would be unusual for Celexa to be prescribed for medical conditions such as headaches, irritable bowel, or muscle pain. I urge you to discuss your concerns further with your physician.
NOw she has increased my dosage to 20 mg for celexa and the lowest dose of clonazepam twice everyday. I am taking celexa regularly but i only take clonazepam once at night time, is it bad, do i have to take it twice as she had asked to. My reason for not taking in daytime is becasue i have three kids who are home these days and i cannot sleep while they are home or feel sleepy and suffer fro headaches if i dont sleep.
I don't get the pounding heart etc, but I do get light headed, a panic feeling, a feeling that I need to run away and/or that i'm dying right then and there. It's horrible. My Dr. has prescribed me 20mg of Celexa which I started 3 days ago. However, I seem to be feeling worse. Agitated, terrified, nervous etc. Is this normal? How long does it take for these things to go away and I start feeling normal again? Thanks so much!
I have been on Celexa for a number of months now (up to 40 mg/day at one point) to treat chronic back pain that my doctor believes is being brought on by anxiety and depression. Nothing seems to be helping my back pain, and I am trying to wean off of the Celexa. I reduced my dose to 20 mg for six weeks and then to 10 mg for another four weeks. When I tried to stop taking it all together, I could not stop having facial and body twitches (it almost feels like an electrical jolt).
Does Celexa make you gain weight. I was just prescribed this medication, and am unsure what to think. Will it lift my apathetic mood? Will I gain weight from it? I would love to hear anyone's story regarding this medication.
Hi. I started Celexa several months ago, and had the hardest time adjusting to it...mood swings, tremors, physical inertia, etc. After being on it for a few months, well, it doesn't seem to be doing much to help me, so I decided to taper off -- which I'm doing very slowly.
Due to a very serious bout of depression 20 years ago which went on for 6 solid years, I have been on anti-depressants for that long. Celexa being the latest, since Serzone was taken off the market. In the last 14 years, I can honestly say that my life has come together full-circle, slowly but surely. I am happy and successful. I had to make several changes through this process (in terms of relationships, personal growth and thinking patterns) and I must say I feel fulfilled.
Perhaps you don't have enough information to know that the Celexa rewires your brain, and coming off involves you rewiring it back to normal. So the rewiring phase can be brutal if not phased in. My doc tapered me off my normal 30mg by 10 mg at a time every 2 weeks. The pharmacist thought he was overkilling, but doc even had me taking 5s for the last 2 weeks.
Just checking back on Feb 1. It's 10 days since my last post and 20 days since my last Celexa dosage. I am still suffering from the side/withdrawal effects. The day before yesterday, I thought it was finished but yesterday it came back in the afternoon, then got better at dinner time. Today, it's been quite bad all day; it's 4:30 now. Is this the normal way that the withdrawal progresses with on again, off again symptoms? It's really very distressing.
I also cry at the slightest thing (which is probably a bit more normal) - but the anxiety is keeping me from feeling excited about my baby - which is a vicous circle because then I have anxiety about not enjoying him! I didn't have anxiety before the baby - do you think this is PPD? My OB started me on celexa 3 days ago - anyone have relief with celexa in association with anxiety, and if so - how long did it take to start working?
Hi, I have been suffering from what I am convinced is some sort of serious disease, but have had plenty of tests on my heart and blood tests, chest x-rays, and even an ultrasound on my gallbladder. All of them looked normal except my liver was slightly enlarged, but that was checked out by a gastro, and he didn't think there was anything wrong that I might just have a bigger one than normal. I have symptoms of dizziness, heart racing, and just random pains.
I have recently tapered off Celexa. I started tapering off April 15th 2003 after being on it for 5 years. The eye twitching/and brain shocks have almost stopped. But here is my problem. I can't stop feeling "lonesome" and wanting to cry over everything. My husband goes to work and immediately I feel like crying. My grandkids go home and I feel like crying. I'm 59 and have a generally unhappy feeling 90% of the day. I find no joy whatsoever in life.
I am just started on weaning from tramadol. I am prescribed. Xanax and Celexa. I never started the celexa because the scare of SSRI syndrome. To much seretonin release. do you like Celexa had helped you.
I'm giving it a few more days and then i'm just going to start taking a low dosage of celexa again. I'm sure my blood work will hopefully come back ok also as they are checking my thyroid and I had it checked before and thank God everything was fine. Please God help me get through this...I don't wish this upon anyone...As I read this board it seems everyone has the same exact withdrawal symptoms as I do. Thanks for listening...

I've been generic Celexa for 3 weeks now and was wondering if very slight blurred vision is a side effect. I feel like I need to squint when I look at things from across the room. It's not bad, but with my anxiety it's starting to get to me...
My doc said I needed something to get me off my depressed/anxiety combo mood and into a normal phase, so he started on Wellbutrin which didn't do the job after 2 months so I was then switched to Celexa which solved everything. I assume Celexa is your first med, so maybe your doc will consider trying you on another one as the effects can be different for different people.
I think the doctor's plan to try to increase the Celexa is a good one and makes sense. It's not uncommon to occasionally require a dosage increase with antidepressants to maintain the same level of effectiveness. I think where your doc went wrong was that he tried to bump you up too drastically, hence why you didn't tolerate the increase. If he increased the dosage more gradually, you may have done better.
After 4 years of taking Celexa, I have just weaned myself off. My dosage had recently been increased to 40 mg and I was not feeling like I was on top of the world so I opted taper off. Being aware of the flu-like sypmtoms rumored in the media etc. I decided to do this slowly. Neither my PCP nor my Pharmacist were very helpful in providing a method to do so. I tried reducing my dosage by 5mg every 4 days. Thus after 32 days I was free - or so I thought.
I started 10mg of Celexa 12 days ago and have had increased anxiety since I started it. I feel like I drank a bunch of coffee and kind of shaky. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, did it go away?
She suggested a low dosage of Celexa. I have only been on it for five days, but I am waking up around 4 a.m. and go into a full blown panic attack. I take a one mg. of Xanax to calm me down, but I now feel like I am just continuing to go in circles. I called my Psychiatrist and he said to stick with it, it would get better. I feel normal during the day, but cannot deal with the Panic Attacks. I have not had one for thirty years.
5 MG TABLETS TWICE DAILY AND CELEXA 20 MG 1 TABLET IN MORNING FOR DEEP DEPRESSION. I TOLD HIM...PLEASE MAKE ME SMILE, ENJOY LIFE, AND LAUGH AGAIN...MAYBE EVEN NOT CARE SO MUCH...I AM VERY SENSITIVE PERSON AND CRY BECAUSE IM HURTING OR OTHERS ARE. I HAVE PANIC ATTACKS, ANXIETY MOOD SWINGS ...I CAN BE QUIET THEN WATCH OUT I AM ON A WAR PATH...I LIKE MY DISHES CLEAN OUT OF MY SINK FOR EXAMPLE AND WHEN SOMEONE LIKE MY 21 YEAR OLD SON DONT CLEAN THEM IAM SO PISSED OF I CANT CONTROL MY ANGER....
Hitman is on 20 which is the smallest Celexa they make. 20 mg of Celexa is the normal starter dose per my doc and pharmacist. I take it from your earlier post that he should take half in the morning and half in the afternoon that you didn't realize that would involve splitting a 20? I hope hitman will let us know what he found out from his doc or pharmacist (as I told him to do) about doing 10 twice a day.
