Avatar n tn I have been taking Paxil for 12 years now. I suffer from PTD, OCD and Bi Polar Disorder. I have notice that since I started taking Paxil I have gained 50 pounds and even with change in eating habits and exercise it is difficult to lose the weight. I have tried to get off Paxil only to suffer from withdrawals which are nasty. Nause, dizziness, vomiting, cold chills, shaking. Now, even when I forget to take it 1 day I experience these symptoms.
672514 tn?1265655141 Whenever I adjust dosage of an SSRI like Celexa, there was an adjustment period where I would feel the same side effects as when I started the medication. But after a couple of weeks, everything would return to "normal." I know what you mean about medication. I was the exact same way the first time I took it. I was REALLY against it, but I found that it has helped me tremendously along with counseling. In my experience with anxiety, it can definitely come and go.
1460652 tn?1340248730 When can I expect to feel positive effects from a dosage increase of an ssri? I have been on celexa for 8 weeks, slowly going up from 5 to 20 mg. I've been on 20 mg for 7 days and still feel anxious...how long does it take for a new dosage to yield positive effects?
1306047 tn?1333243591 Howdy, I've had pretty severe General Anxiety for ten years now and also a form of OCD for about six years. I've never been medicated and have tried everything to beat it on my own, all to no avail. I finally got the balls to try an SSRI. I was given Celexa at 20mg. I have to say that it has worked wonders.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor if you can take xanax with celexa. IDK if ativan would work for you cuz I know people who take celexa and take ativan when needed. I was on celexa for 4 years and it worked great. better than any other med I tried.
Avatar m tn When I say issues I mean I just still have certain things that cause anxiety, or I still have some ocd things like someone tapping makes me explode, I can't read a magazine without re reading the last few words on each page about five times by turning the page, turning it back and reading the last words and do that five times or so. I still have to check and re check locks and stuff. And I have recently read that the dosage should be higher for ocd.
Avatar n tn ve tried several medications for anxiety and panic attacks, but have had major side effects from them all. Zoloft, Celexa, etc. My doctor recently prescribed Prozac for my anxiety and panic attacks. In reading about Prozac, it does list anxiety and panic, but they are down the list a ways. Does anyone know if Prozac is a good choice for this? I don't want to take them if they aren't going to do anything. I don't have OCD, which seems to be the main disorder Prozac is prescribed for.
Avatar f tn I realize now i need treatment of some sort, I have been diagnosed with OCD and have been taking CELEXA which doesnt seem to be working, I just so tired of feeling edgy.
1565088 tn?1295478962 I'm currently taking 750 mg of Depakote and 20 mg of Celexa each day. I've tried to get off them several times and had some bad results (mostly religious fanaticism and ocd symptoms). Throughout my teenage years (I'm 23), doctors have labelled me with just about everything from eating disorders to ocd to bipolar. However, I honestly think I was just a normal teen with very few coping skills. Recently I worked through the reasons for my ocd behavior and have come out on top.
Avatar f tn I posted this in the Anxiety forum, but hoped I'd get some help from here. I have been on Zoloft for years (on and off). I had to go back on it in January after a 6 month break. My anxiety got so bad I was having severe panic attacks. This time when I went on the Zoloft it had the opposite effect....it was more stimulating that calming for me and I'm not sure why. Neither is my doctor. I also have OCD and it increased my OCD by 10x almost immediately.
Avatar f tn I have been to Dr. A for years and have taken SSRI's on and off. The best was Celexa and did great on it for a year. It just made me have trouble waking up and made me late to work every morning. Then I moved and went to a new psychiatrist, Dr. H, who knows me less but was more thorough like taking blood and mouth swab test, etc. He seems to think I have a mood disorder (bipolar spectrum) on the the depressive side and thinks Mood Stabilizers like Lamictal would be better for me.
Avatar f tn I have been on Celexa for over a year and I lowered it to see if I could be ok (depression) without it. But my depression came back. So now I'm upping it back to the dose I was origionally on. It takes about a week for my body to adjust to any dose changes. Since I've been on my typical dosage since 3 weeks ago, I can rule out Celexa. My doctor does know about my Celexa. My first guess it the Birth Control.
Avatar n tn He did, his doctor placed him on 25mg of celexa which he took up untill this past christmas(about 1 year) he also has been taking 2 types of high blood pressure medication(not sure of the dose or name), since then he has seemed to slip back into his mood swings and has had some close calls with snapping and getting into fights at his work (union electrician).
Avatar n tn Today, she is taking a newer SSRI medication (Celexa) at a low dosage and probably will be taking meds for her entire life but the alternative was not an option. Without this medication, our child had no life. Your words "her tantrums have been unbearable" - if living with your daughter is unabearable, I wonder what it would be like for your daughter to live this way. One more thing - if the medication does not work, then it can be stopped.
Avatar n tn Im on celexa for depression and anxiety and OCD. its helping my depression and anxiety, but not really touching my OCD like my doctor had hoped. He upped my dose last week and Im going to give it a few weeks to see, but if it doesnt seem to be working, Im going to ask him about luvox.
Avatar m tn I have been on Celexa 20mg for about 6 weeks. My doc has upped it to 30mg...what side effects should I expect?
Avatar f tn My 7 year old was diagnosed with OCD a few months ago and is on Prozac. He doesn't do any counting or hand washing, nor do things have to be in any particular order, he just has bad thought ocd. He has to confess everything to me even it happened a year ago. And he will say to me "I just thought you are a pin head, but I don't think that anymore". He can't keep any of his thoughts to himself. He is now on Prozac and I'm wondering if it is making him hyper.
Avatar n tn What medications other than Luvox or Celexa could I use for anxiety and ocd? I feel Luvox aint working neither was Celexa. My problem is I cant relax and Im always worrying. I have no compulsions except going on the internet and looking for answers and finding distressing news that I think apply to me. Im tired of this. I deserve to enjoy my life! I dont want to worry about getting it up or my sexual performance. Help!
1305767 tn?1361192676 He didn't really say much. Just upped my dosage of Celexa, gave me more ativan and ordered some blood work. I'm supposed to call my regular physician on Monday.
Avatar n tn A lot of the medications that treat OCD are anti-depressants. So if you don't mind me asking, what are you taking, how much, and for how long? It is definitely a compulsion because if you don't pick at it, I'm sure you become anxious. A compulsion is a habit and like any habit it can be broken but it takes work. The best person for you to talk to is a psychologist so that they can teach you behavior modification strategies. Let me know about the meds...
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old and I have always had problems with depression. I get treated then i take myself off the meds. I seem to have alot of racing thoughts, aniexity, and focus issues. I just want to understand what is going on and what I should do to overcome these problems. I have always have had thoughts of being gay.. I don't want to be.. they won't go way. I don't know if it has to do with my past or what. The thoughts are always there.
Avatar n tn ) He was diagnosed with ADHD at age 5 and was recently diagnosed with OCD/Anxiety disorder. His Dr. has prescribed him Celexa for the OCD/Anxiety disorder. I have read that this medication is not recommended in children. Is it safe for him to take this medication? Or is there anywhere I can look for information on the use of this medication in children?
2141745 tn?1336156918 for over a year I suffered from anxiety and and thought about it constantly, all day long. But I took meds, and with 40mgs of Celexa, and therapy, I was able to break out of that loop and for 2 years I thought I was "over" it. Well, I won't bore anyone with the details, but recently found myself back in the loop. It's a little discouraging, to say the least, but I am back on meds and will be starting up therapy again pretty soon.
