celexa and ibs

m 29, female, have a 6 year old son, I only take nexium and celexa. I have had a history of gastric issues and was diagnosed years ago with IBS. I have no idea what's happening and I'm terrified. Someone please give me some advice. Thank you!!

food avoidance is the biggest way to lose weight in ibs and normally ibs does not cause weight loss as the bowel etc is working as in there is no inflamation or damage to cause malabsorabion it is merely a functional disorder and some maybe you could have rapid transit with your ibs and this may cause weight loss a little couple that with avoiding specfic foods and u getr the picture .

I have had fibromyalgia since a near fatal car accident 10 years ago. I am currently on Celexa and Methadone, and I have gained about 35 lbs. and I can't figure out how to stop it or why it is happening. My pain management doctor is a neurologist, and he just says it is a combination of the meds, menopause,not being as active, but he is not a diet doctor and his main concern is my pain. Is there another combination of meds that doesn't do this?

Hi, last year I started having lots of health issues, prior to that I've always been pretty healty, exercising and eating healthy. I'm 41 years old and in March of 2010 I had brain surgery to clip an unruptured aneurysm. Then 3 months later I had a laparoscopic appendectomy. I also have prostate problems (chronic prostatitis) & stomach problems. And I have been diagnosed with IBS, GASTRITIS, DIVERTICULOSIS.

Thank you for the very detailed and knowledgeable response. In the past, I was on Zoloft for a short period and switched to Celexa (the generic). I've been on 20 mg a day since July. The reason I switched from Zoloft to Celexa was that I was having some stomach/IBS issues and thought it might be related to the Zoloft. It was more likely the anxiety adding to the stomach/IBS. Several years ago, I was on Remeron which is great for sleeping.

CeleXa inhibits reuptake allowing more seratonin to be left in the synaptic gap causing the threshold for the nerves firing to be techniquelly less because less has to be delivered for the spark to occur since more is already there and available. I have smoked M. for 2 years and recently started CeleXa. The only thing ive noticed thus far is that I am less affected by the M. now that I am on CeleXa.

I read a paper that Celexa helps vertigo. anyone experience this? I may have to get back on Celexa and not for Panic or Anxiety but for the vertigo that started 3 days ago.

hello all i have been on 40mg celexa and .05 klonopin for a few months now. I feel that the ssri doesnt relly touch the anxiety ,and without the klonopin i would still be anxious! Does anyone get anxiety relief from there ssri alone? i know many people take 2 or more meds and I just wanted to know if im on the right track. any input would be great!

I am convinced that my Celexa is a major culprit in my weight gain. Before Celexa, I was on Zoloft, and the first week on Zoloft I lost weight, but then stabilized and slowly began to gain weight. the weight gain was not a big amount but it did happen. Then a few yrs later, I began having problems on Zoloft so my Doc switched me to Celexa, and "whamo!", BIG WEIGHT GAIN! It was amazing! On top of the weight gain, Celexa has made me lethargic and very tired.

At first, Celexa made me sleepy and relaxed. Believe me, this was a Good Thing! At last, I could sleep well! I cannot say that the drug itself decreased my PVCs--however, it DID decrease my awareness of them. Since their frequency was related to my anxiety and awareness of them (because of the effects of adrenaline), as I became less and less conscious of these sensations, the frequency of PVCs decreased dramatically. Trust your doctor and give this a try.

I just started 20 mg of generic Celexa (3 days ago) and the doc also gave me Ambien and Klonopin (take .25mg) to relieve the anxiety until the Celexa kicks in. I wake up shaky/hot and kind of panicky. Which drug is this from drugs, or is it still the anxiety. I know this takes time, but I don't want to mess with any drugs that might be making the symptoms worse (i.e Klonopin or Ambien). I also don't want to become dependent on the Klonopin and ambien either.

I am 23 years old, average weight and moderate exercise, and I have IBS-D with GI malabsorption, functional nausea/vomiting, PTSD, and panic disorder. My heart rate and BP tend to run low (40-60 bpm and 100-110/50-60 mmHg). I take Celexa 40mg daily. I've had blood work done, several EKGs, an echocardiogram, and wore a holter monitor for 30 days and everything looked perfectly normal.

I started 5 mg Celexa 5 days ago and the doctor gave me .5 mg Ativan for just in case. My question is how long until the Celexa starts working? If I use the Ativan too often will it effect how the Celexa works? How hard are these to come off of?

I've been on celexa for about 8 weeks now.... I was having trouble getting to sleep at first and still needed some occasional xanax to help my mind stop racing....i then found myself getting to sleep fine but waking up much earlier than normal...now, I am getting to sleep pretty easily and staying asleep. I think you probably need to give the celexa another couple of weeks and see if you have improvement.

I still ahve anxiety, my doctor gave me Celexa which is okay, my question is, is it okay to take Xanax and Celexa together? I used to take Xanax too for panic attacks, and for now I know it will make me feel better. Does anyone know if they can be taken together? I have never been hooked on Xanax at all, so that is not a problem.

I would like to know how to tapper off the Celexa and with me getting off of that and with the help of my thyroid medication will I start to lose weight ( I have not lost ANYTHING since I started my thyroid medication and I am dieting and exercising!!). When that did nothing for the insomnia and resulting panic, I went to a regular doctor the next day and he prescribed Celexa and Klonopin. I did sleep last night, thankfully. My question now is, can I take one of these low dose Xanax today? I started the Celexa last night and took 1 mg Klonopin to sleep. I just want to feel normal again.

He has decided to gradually up the Celexa again and ween me off the Ativan. this is 3 days later and i am home from school with dizziness and nausea. From what I read that is normal withdrawal, and i'm certain it will pass. However, my question is if the Celexa was bad to bring up the first time, will it necessarily have the same result months later? If anyone has any information on this medication please help me, i'm a little worried!

55am, I forgot I took the celexa and I took Cyclobenzaprine. Do you think is something I should be worry? I looked online about the drug interaction and they say could be deadly. I am very worry. Any advice of what I can do? Do I gonna be okay? How long apart I can take those two medications?

The good news is that I believe the Celexa is helping the anxiety and depression. Been on it about 2 and a half weeks. Started at 5 mg, and worked up to 20 mg about 4 days ago. I notice that i am dizzy and lightheaded most of the day. I get some relief when i inline skate. Is the dizziness a symptom that will go away...also some insomnia. I don't want to stop taking this because I feel ok about the drug and the relief of depression and anxiety.

I've taken three benzos, but not that one. But using benzos for sleep isn't the best idea, as they're so easy to become addicted to if you take them regularly, and insomnia tends to get worse with continued use of medication for sleep. I would especially try to wait it out as you're not anywhere near a therapeutic dose of the Celexa yet, and it might make you sedated when you move up. If the Celexa works you won't need the Ativan much.

I have been on depression meds for 2 years and im TTC but I can't just quit them suddenly because of the terrible withdrawl I have experienced in the past. I could whean off but im on 20 mgs of Celexa and it might take a while. Should I stay on it if im pregnant? I don't know what to do. Any advice would be great!

t want to redo the GI tests, and instead prescribed generic Klonopin, .5MG at morning, evening and 2 at night; 20mg generic Celexa 1c a day; and for any stomacyh efects, 300mg Zantac 1x a day and an over-the-couner probiotic supplement called "Align." I started these on Wednesday afternoon, and it's not Friday early afternoon.

They don't know. IBS and motility dusorder. Had reaction to zlevsin. Wanted me to start Prozac and Clonidine. Took a half of one last night, sick as hell again today.

I have taken Celexa 20mg with Klonopin with excellent results. Normally your doctor wants to wait 4-6 weeks to see if the 20 mg does the job for you, and if not he will increase the dosage. This is how long it takes for the Celexa or any anti-depressant to reach therapeutic level. You will be able to wean off the Klonopin, once your anti-depressant starts working, but I continued on both, and still take the Klonopin with Citolopram.

Effexor and Celexa are both SSRI's I believe and you really shouldnt have been on both at the same time. Especially with Buspar. The combination seems off to me. However having to go cold turkey is hard as well. I think you need to seek another doctors help asap. Please dont take any meds from any source other than what you have been prescribed. Switch doctors asap!!!!!
