Celexa and ibs

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa and ibs

celexa

I take celexa and have no problens. I have IBS anywayOr at least I did untill I got my thyroid out. bodies change over time and there are lots of foods that ussed to be tolerated that cant be any more. Its probably not the celexa. if the fatty foods seem to trigger the d consider having your gall bladder checked.
Most of the other medication (effexor, Prozac, Zoloft) produce side effects which I did not care for. My doctor and I finally gave Celexa a try. I was taking low dosages (10mg daily) of Celexa and I was doing fine. A few months back my doctor suggested I try Lexapro. I have found that most of the bad side effects of Celexa have been eliminated with this new and so far wonderful medication, I am currently taking 10mg Lexapro daily.
I have been having IBS symptoms and soon will see a gastrologist about the problem. I've always had some stomach problems in the past but they have gotten much worse over the past year. I have also been taking Effexor for the past year and wonder if this could be part of the cause. Has anyone experienced IBS with effexor?
I have been taking Buspar and Zoloft and my phychiatrist tells me to switch to Celexa and Welbutrin. Well let me just say that after reading your posts I am NOT crazy. I have only taken 20 mg. of Celexa and 150 mg. of Welbutrin for only 3 days and my stomach is sooooooooooo bloated and I have really bad pains in my stomach . I though what the heck. Anyway, this was worse that ocd and anxiety combined, not to mention that the Welbutrin made me just want to pop out of my own skin.
My GI said that after all of the tests, IBS was the culprit, and that the weight loss was due to a change in eating habits related to the IBS symptoms. Does this seem like a viable explanation? I know I ate less and changed my diet, but has anyone else experienced this? I think my appetite came back at times, but it's hard for me to remember at this point how much I actually was eating.

I did and it helped but then nothing for another 7 days so I took matters into my own hands and threw out 6 of the 12 prescriptions including the celexa and oxycontin. My psychiatrist was against it and said I'd have siezures. Well, for 3 weeks my eyes felt funny every time I moved them or my head, but no siezures and in the end I felt so much better. No more drugged/tired/sluggish feeling. I still have chronic stomach problems with alternating bouts of diahrea/constipation, nausea and reflux.
I'm also taking Belladonna Alkaloids with PB- two tabs 4x daily for IBS. I had weight loss issues with the IBS symptoms- since a major side effect of Citalopram can be weight gain, is the fact that I'm merely holding weight now instead of losing it a result of Citalopram? i.e. if I wasn't on it, would I still be losing weight?
But last month I had a lipid panel test and my Triglycerides levels were very high (500). I also got IBS problem. I stopped taking celexa and my doctor also gave me Gemfibrozil for cholesterol. It was ok in the starting but past two weeks I lost my sex drive right now I can't even get any erection. I and my wife are very frustrated I told my doctor and he prescribed me Wellbutrin 150 mg dose. I feel fine and I don't feel depressed. I do have little bit upset stomach. I don't know what it is.
I have had fibromyalgia since a near fatal car accident 10 years ago. I am currently on Celexa and Methadone, and I have gained about 35 lbs. and I can't figure out how to stop it or why it is happening. My pain management doctor is a neurologist, and he just says it is a combination of the meds, menopause, not being as active, but he is not a diet doctor and his main concern is my pain. Is there another combination of meds that doesn't do this?
No mention of female inability to orgasm, no mention of male ejaculatory failure, no mention of sexual anhedonia or sexual anesthesia in both men and women and no mention of loss of libido or sex drive in both men and women. All the consumer of modern antidepressants is being told is that there maybe some poor sexual performance. This is meaningless, unfair and disingenuous. But unfortunately, it gets much worse.
I am writing this to find some help for my partner. We visited the ER of a hospital we happened to be near (not our "normal" ER/hospital) last Sunday. She was having pain in her stomach in intense episodes to the point of tears and inability to walk. The pain is in her lower abdomen, just above the pubic bone. The pain also radiates to her back, upper groin, and down her legs.
Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.

I used to be so healthy and eat whatever I want and go on with my life. Besides the IBS and anxiety I was able to live with it. Then ever since May I just have not felt like myself. I never had any health problems not even heartburn! Nothing ever..I used to get bloated a little bit because my IBS caused me to be constipated alot, but that was it. Now all of a sudden I have Mitral Valve Prolapse (which I am extremely upset about) and now might have a gallbladder problem. I am not overweight...
My calcium and PTH are normal and my doctor is not concerned about bone cancer and a bone scan I asked about. My family doctor says I have had a very thorough workup and enough tests and that I don't need a bone scan, which is more radiation because the ALP is just above normal and is likely liver related because of the ast alt ggt elevations caused by fatty liver (Isoenzymes a couple of years ago showed the alp increase to liver).
)She was still struggling mentally and was put on anti-psychotic meds and celexa that gave her grand mal seizures. Now we are starting over. We are now suspecting porphyria. She seems to be very sensitive to chemicals also. I believe that there is a connection. She has had bad reactions to meds before. Diet is the only thing that has made a difference and of course a lot of prayer.
Did you find that the celexa helped you at all? And wow! a 2 yr waiting list for an EMDR referral? I'm a little confused by that though. Was the wait time just from the procedure? You don't have long wait times for other procedures do you? I only ask because I'm sure you've seen in the news that our country passed major health care reform which I think is much needed here. But,the opposition thinks that health care will be rationed and we will have long wait times.
I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
I felt great up until 3 weeks ago and wham, it just stopped working. Celexa and Lexapro have the same main compound, though Lexapro is supposed to be more concentrated and thus you need a smaller amount which the marketing stuff says results in fewer side effects. If Celexa worked for you that well for 3 years, then go back on it and forget about Lexapro. I personally cannot take Lexapro any more. It actually INCREASES my anxiety which causes more panic attacks.
I called back, held on for 10 minutes and chatty Amanda gets on the phone is isn't even my doctor's nurse. Doctor is out but he wants me to take Celexa and if that doesn't help, then to call a mental health number on the back of the card (whatever card that is). I took a deep breath (why beat her up) and told her that I was very uncomfortable starting a drug without at least speaking to the doctor about it - I have a ton of questions, like side effects.
she gave me xanax and celexa. so im so excited to hear that you take that and it works because alot of people havent really heard of it. i take .25mg xanax once a day which doesnt do anything and i have been staring at my celexa pills debating to take them for the past three weeks (dont ask me why, just scared to start them i guess) but now since i hear some positive feedback on it i will start it tonight.

I am an almost 41 year old male non smoker, 192 pounds 5'11 who has a history of asthma, IBS, anxiety, gerd with a hiatal hernia and a benign fatty liver confirmed by biopsy several years ago when my alt ast and alk phos were constantly elevated and I also have Gout. I have endometriosis, fibromyalgia, IBS, and severl upper GI problems in which are not significant. I have been told that the fibromyalgia is not causing the muscle spasms/jerking or the abdominal pain. Effect on me: I have to rely on a walker many days. Sometimes I am unable to walk to the bathroom by myself. The spasms get so severe I end up on the tips of my toes. I have had to withdraw from school, take leave from work, and my husband has been caring for my children.
I am a 40 year old male, a non smoker 5'11 190 pounds. I suffer from depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. I have Asthma, IBS, Gout, Fybromyalgia & acid reflux. The medicines I take are alluporinol (Gout) Ventolin, Prevacid, Flovent, Serevent. Celexa and ativan as needed for panic attacks. I have a benign fatty liver confirmed by Biopsy 5 years ago, which causes elevations in GGT ALT AST ALP.
All the web sites I have been to link mental health and well being to the function of the thyroid. I am on zyprexa/celexa combo for the bipolar and synthroid/cytomel for my lack of thyroid.I also have a therapist that works with my med manager and I like to say my bi polar is in remission.I take my meds faithfully now for 6years and that is a bi polar record. Let me know if I can be of any help cause I have been there where you are and I understand. Prayers and hugs for you.
