Celexa and ambien

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa and ambien

celexa

The doctor has prescribed to me 20mg of Celexa (to treat OCD and Panic Disorder) and a small dosage of Ambien CR. However, I am worried about taking a combination of these drugs because of their interaction. Is there a risk of increase in toxicity for these drugs when taken together? If so, what are the risks?
*in my opinion* Your doctor probably made a VERY bad decision, Ambien (zolpidem) is meant to be a sleep aid, and is in the drug class 'Sedative/Hypnotic'. It's supposed to be taken for a short period of time to help with insomnia and other various sleep problems. I take it every night, and have been for 2 years, but some nights I'll take it and PLAN on going to bed, but after it kicks in, its pretty much like being drunk, and I end up staying up very late those nights until it wears off.
I have been taking celexa for 3 years. I started with 20mg then 30mg and finally 40mg at bedtime. I took this dosage for several month but stopped al at once two days ago, can I be having withdrawels from this? I'm having dizziness, nause, muscle pain in shoulder area and all round ache in all of my body. I also take lithobid, ambien, meds for thyroid, acid reflux, irritatable bowel.
Is it safe to take 5mg Ambien when using 20 mg celexa? (44 Y old male, 170 lbs.
15 days later i feel worst than i did when i started celexa, i have thoughts of dying before i wake up so therefore i cant go to sleep without an ambien is celexa right for me. I am 59 y o type 2 diabetic. I have been on the intial dose of wellbutrin and that didnt work. I understand that you are supposed to notice a difference in six weeks is that the positive feeling because I already feel BAD from about 22 days on the stuff.
sedativist, my experiences seem much like yours. i too have been on celexa and the ambien helped me sleep. once most of the 'post acute withdrawal' symptoms went away i seemed to be able to sleep much better and somewhat tapered, but basically just stopped without any problems. mandy, the reason i flipped at such a high dose of ambein is two fold.
I just started 20 mg of generic Celexa (3 days ago) and the doc also gave me Ambien and Klonopin (take .25mg) to relieve the anxiety until the Celexa kicks in. I wake up shaky/hot and kind of panicky. Which drug is this from drugs, or is it still the anxiety. I know this takes time, but I don't want to mess with any drugs that might be making the symptoms worse (i.e Klonopin or Ambien). I also don't want to become dependent on the Klonopin and ambien either.
I've been on Celexa for 1 week. I was on 40mg of Paxil for 7 years. I have depression and panic attacks. I've been having the "classic" paxil withdrawl symptoms: -vertigo(wow, it has a name? I thought I was crazy for feeling this!) -flu like symptoms -extreme moodiness -tremors -etc, etc, etc... Anyway, my doctor said nothing about weening off of Paxil. Are the effects of Celexa supposed to (for lack of a better phrase) take over where the Paxil left off?
I started hallucinating, most likely from the Ambien. Next night, I took only the celexa and it kept me up all night and made my anxiety way, way worse. Never tried it again. Felt like I was hopped up on caffeine. Very jittery and shaky. Give it a try and see how you react to it. Everyone is different.
I stopped using Celexa about 5 days ago, just stopped. I don't notice anything. Can there be any problems I should look for? I feel it just took "the edge" off and not sure I should stay on it.
Celexa SSRI zaps (and Moshka could add 'pregnancy' too) and you may find a support board specifically to do with Celexa as there are for Paxil and Prozac. Hope neither of you get it too badly. All the best.
I just had my dose of celexa increased from 10mg. to 20mg. and had an awful reaction and thought it was all me. An intense fear came over me, I became delusional, thinking something terrible was about to happen. Every thought that came into my head was fearful. This lasted intensley for 2 days and is now tapering off, but slowly. Today is the sixth day. I've had a euphoric feeling off and on throughout the day followed by heavy drowsiness.
Is it OK to just switch from ambien to temazepam like that, abruptly quitting the ambien? Should I alternate back and forth for a while? And lastly, should I sleep better or at least as good with the temazepam and maybe 15mg just isn't enough? Last night was not good - I'm not sure if I should take more temazepam or just stick with the ambien.
Now, 6 months later, I have been through hell, I've seen 3 therapists and a psychiatrist and my GP. I switched to Celexa in nov or dec, 20mg. End of January of this year, dose was doubled to 40mg. Okay, so, believe it or not, my marriage is back on track, we have been seeing a therapist together and have become closer, plus, our sex life has never been better. The problem is I feel so anxious and down and I'm starting to think it is the Celexa. I only weigh 108 and am 5'7".
I'm taking the Ambien CR and THANK GOD FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!! I tried regular Ambien and had 2 nights in one week that I only got 2 hours of sleep... which didn't help with the depression or Riba Rage. I still wake up often, but am able to go back to sleep now. I have no problem with feeling bad the next day. I'm on Effexor for the depression. My feelings about the sx: Right now the most important thing is to kill this dragon... whatever it takes.
About 6 months earlier I had stopped a low dose of Xanax and Ambien and it was awful for about 4-5 months, but when I fast tapered the Celexa I was not expecting increased itching as a side effect. Just a thought. Hang in there, I feel for you!
Next thing I know I was so depressed , Dr. upped Celexa to 20 mg.I started having panic and anxiety, could the celexa cause this? This is my 13th day on 20mg.
When is the best time to take Celexa? My dr just started me on 5mg and told me to take it at 8pm. I did that now its 445 am and im still not sleeping....I had to take my effexor in the afternoon , should I take it then, or take it in the morning or stick with night, Im so confused and just want to get better and be able to sleep...Thanks!!!
He said I was mumbling and seemed tired and out of it and that my driving was clumsy and I kept hitting the curb. He said I complained of double vision. He said he kept suggesting that I stop driving, but that I was mumbling and he couldn't hear what I was saying. I am extremely paranoid about accidents, so I know if I'd been fully aware of what I was doing I never would have put him in that danger. Question: Does this sound like sleep-driving?
The celexa worked great but I had no libido so he took me off of it and put me on Wellbutrin and Ambien. I went straight from the celexa to the wellbutrin. After 4 days of taking the wellbutrin I started to have these weird dizzy spells everytime I turn my head, it is especially bad after I wake up, sometimes I even feel like I could fall over. I have not taken the medication in 5 days and I still feel dizzy.
I understand that Celexa and Wellbutrin are in different drug classes and work though different biochemical paths but do not understand what the difference is. i. How can I make an intelligent decision on which one to substitute for Nortyrptyline? ii. Which is more likely to reduce libido and ability? Can either one increase them? iii. Will Celexa act as a sedative like Norytrytyline (which is very helpful for sleeping, but also builds dependency)? iv.
That feeling lasted all day and I was wiped out when I got home and felt nauseous and tense. I couldn't sleep again with just the Trazodone so I took 5mg of ambien. I woke up with a headache again and felt like a wet noodle. I've been in bed almost all day and have had crying spells come on over nothing. This has me puzzled and a little scared. My pdoc told me to call if it made me sick, but I don't really know if this qualifies as that. All I know is I feel awful.
Can I take the Celexa daily in the morning and melatonin and ambien at night? I'm presently taking 5-10 mg of melatonin and sometimes with that 3 mg of ambien, menapause related...
didn't really do it for me, been changed to Celexa and Ambien. All of the above drugs are considered somewhat safe during pregnancy. They are all class "C" drugs (most drugs are in this class), but class "C" hangout in the grey area. You really, really want to stay away from anything in the class "D'' or lower. If you need it, take it. Apparently they thought it would help because they prescribed it, they aren't going to give you anything that will hurt the baby.
During all this I started a new job and I would lay in bed at night and have bad anxiety and panic attacks and I could not sleep . I stated taking .5 alprazolam and it helped for a little while then nothing. My dr. Started me on ambien and lunesta with little relief from either drug. The I started 100mg of trazadone with my .5 alprazolam. I started with a quarter of the trazadone .25 and quickly went all the way up to 200. And still it was a coin toss if I was going to sleep or not.
can you take headache med exp: tylenol, advil, aspin) with celexa? I would really like to try something other then ambien.
Celexa - and I don't sleep. Or I sleep 20 hours in one night. I gave up trying to regulate it. But I stopped taking the Celexa - it worked ok for me. Good luck.
About a week into the reduction of meds due to waiting for freakin' MedCo to mail me my 3 month supply of Lamictal and Celexa. Have yet to drop off the prescript I got for Xanax, and need to pick up a refill of Ambien, probably tomorrow. Yay.
I take Levitra and am on Celexa and Ambien. My Psych NP said there were no interactions. I haven't been able to notice any odd side effects. But you should ask a pharmacist.
Fentanyl is an extreme opiate if I remember correctly and you quitting that CT will for sure give you some anxiety and depression even when taking the perks (IMO). I to suffer with anxiety and depression and have been on and off celexa for years while abusing perks 10mg as well. What I have done recently is quit the perks via suboxone, currently at 1mg dose from 6mg, started that about 2 weeks ago. Before that, about a week before, I started back on my celexa.
