Celebrex off the market

Common Questions and Answers about Celebrex off the market

celebrex

Avatar f tn The one problem I have with a lot of the NSAIDS on the market today is that they have been linked to heart attacks in recent years, but if you don't have a heart history or your family doesn't, then they may be fine for you. Something else to think about is that they warn you that if you are allergic to sulfonamides you should not take drugs like Celebrex since they do contain sulfonamides.
Avatar f tn sorry to jump in, but i had the impression that Celebrex was going to be taken out of the market for several reasons. It is not sold in South America because of that, since people were complaining about these symptoms you metion (upset stomach, etc) and one of them was "bouncing pain". Amy, did they put you straight on Celebrex, or did you try other mild over the counter painkillers? i suffer from both AS and MS, and i take higher doses of Advil or any other Iboprufen around.
Avatar f tn I took them for many years before I switched to celebrex, then oxy. (well first to celebrex, a heart attack, then morphine then fentynol then oxy) Taper off them to avoid those horrible tylenol headaches and you shouldn't have too much trouble. Good Luck! I was on fentynol for three years 150mcg/day, and quit those cold turkey. I was grumpy and tired for three days and that was about it. A month later I was put on oxy and have been on it ever since- (480g/day now) ten years now.
1207048 tn?1282174304 I took celebrex years ago and I remember that it helped a little bit but there was a recall in 2004. They took it off the market due to findings of increased risk of heart attack, stroke and blood clots in patients that took it for more than a year. My mother took it also and neither of us had any side effects from it just stopped because of the recall. Have you tried physical therapy? It might help to be evaluated and then go for a few sessions and see if it helps.
548642 tn?1266179652 I take Celebrex and was in fact put on it by the h ead honcho at Shands at the university of Florida. I have RA and the mainstay drug for an RA flare is Prednisone. Since steroids are a big no no on treatment, Shands recommended that I go on Celebrex when I started this round of tx. I have Stage 3/4 liver damage. They must feel the benefits far outweigh the risks in my case.
Avatar dr m tn Jim my brother uses Celebrex and he has a lot of success with it. I myself took Vioxx for 4 year for fibromyalgia and had tremendous success until it was taken off the market. I can't take Celebrex because I think it has sulfa in it and I am allergic. It has been known to have serious side affects however again some people do very well on it. I wish I could try it. What is RZ Rhizotomy? I've had 7 back and cervical surgeries so I am well aware of what that pain is like.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I did read a article in a New Zealand publication (new) that said that 5/300 patients on Celebrex had vision problems. But the good news is once they got off it went away. So, I have nothing other than Tylenol for pain relief. I can't take Ibupropen and Naproxicin (Aleve) as those cause me bad stomach pain. Keep up the positive thoughts.
182884 tn?1259312906 At one time I was on Viox and then Bextra and they were both taken off the market. My dr. recently put me on Celebrex, and I am now wondering if this medicine is appropriate anymore for someone in my condition, who has had an MI? I was under the impression that it was ok to take unless you had underlying heart disease. Do I now fit that category? I would like some feedback from anyone who has an idea. Also if I keep taking this am I at greater risk?
Avatar m tn Ime really worried about taking these etoricoxib even tho i was assured by the receptionist that they are not in the same family as celebrex and meloxicam..I really do believe that the celbrex caused you to have the bowel obstructions as with me it caused me to lose the lining of my stomach and also a huge flare up of ulcerative colitis which as soon as my own doctor the visited me i was rushed in and he told me i should never even of been given them..Anyway just be careful what you take.
Avatar m tn I had to try almost every single one on the market before my insurance would approve Celebrex. And there is no generic so it's much more expensive.
Avatar n tn I took Celebrex for a year while I was on treatment this last time at the recommendation of Shands at the University of Florida. I made the decision to come off the Celebrex on my own because of all the black box warnings that came out regarding the heart while on Celebrex. I just came back from Shands on 7/21. I was up there for another evaluation after having relapsed for a second time.
Avatar f tn I have been getting an aura in both eyes (like a migraine aura with no headache that lasts about 15minutes to a half hour) since I was told to increase my neurontin, daily, but I was also put on Celebrex and Skelaxin at the same time. I've been off of Skelaxin since March 2010. I went off of Celebrex first as I read an article that was in a New Zealand journal of medicine that said it causes rare (9/300 people) visual disturbance.
Avatar m tn COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs.
Avatar f tn I know many that take the Diamox with no problems, same with Celebrex...but, u had issues with the Diamox, just as I know those that had issues with Celebrex. All u can do is try it and see how it goes for u...and do let us know : ) I pray it works well for u.
Avatar f tn Hey Hopey. I was just prescribed Celebrex too!! I'm very anxious to see how well it helps b/c i have constant back pain and have tried several meds that haven't given ANY relief. I started the Celebrex today, 600 mgs. And will take 400 mgs/day after today. The dr DID say it can take a few days to start feeling relief from it.
Avatar f tn These are the known side effects of celebrex, which may be more pronounced in some individuals. Though celebrex carries the risk of gastritis and GI ulceration, like other NSAIDS; the incidence is slightly lower as compared to others. Symptom of GI reflux can be aggravated by it. Rhythm abnormalities (early de-polarisation/ re-polarisation) may not be related to celebrex use.
5986700 tn?1380791380 to get that clearance!! Of course, after I got off the Celebrex....I was just dandy cardio-wise. It was my personal reaction to the drug. Plus it was going to cost me a FORTUNE $$$...
Avatar f tn You have fractured at the radius, below the elbow so using arm at shoulder joint for circulation and mobility is good. Do not move the forearm at the elbow joint till some days. Bone is one of the strongest substance and with hairline fracture due to injury, it will get alright with time as there is no problem with alignment or displacement. It will take 1-2 weeks for the granulation tissue to form and complete the healing process in 2 more weeks.
Avatar f tn Hello there, I read you are taking celebrex. Did you know that celebrex has been taken off many drug store shelves. It is not a safe drug. Are you sure it's the Lyrica that is causing your weight gain? If it's the Lyrica that is causing the weight gain, maybe you should stop taking it, but talk to your doctor first. Don't just stop taking Lyrica. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn I was just diagnosed with an autoammune disease and don't want to take plaquenil just yet. Doctor said to take celebrex and a muscle relaxer. I have been taking 1 mg of xanax for 3 weeks and before that it was about twice a week as needed. I was having such anxiety and sleep issues rhemy said to take it every day. Now 3 weeks later she wants to try the new coctail of celebrex and muscle relaxer.
Avatar f tn ( so far I have been on celebrex for 4 days but am not getting any relief but I read sometimes it takes a week or two to start working. I stayed off all pills today except the celebrex. I pretty much slept all day and the pain I feel in my legs everyday is sooooo bad it hurts to even move them. I am so scared about having to take more opiates and about the rebound pain which is why I really want to quit.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I meant to add that to find out WHICH med is causing the eye problems you should stop them ONE at a TIme. That way you will know. I THINK that you've pretty much figured it out that it's the Neurontin and not the Celebrex that was causing it from what you have said to me. Especially since that is one of the side-effects of the Neurontin and VERY seldom (only - was is it 5%?) for the Celebrex.
Avatar m tn However, it will only prevent migraine headaches or reduce the number of attacks and will not treat a headache that has already begun. Celebrex or celecoxib, on the other hand, is used to treat pain or inflammation including headaches. Medication effect usually varies from one person to another. What is effective to one may not be as effective to another. It would be difficult to say which medicine has a better outlook.
Avatar f tn I have chronic pain and Nucynta was working well for me. However, I'm a new RN and cannot take narcotics, so I have so switch medications. I am attempting to switch from Nucynta (50 mg 6x/day) to Celebrex (200mg 3x/day). My doctor didn't give me any advice for tapering off one to another. Any advice on how to do that? Can I take the Celebrex while still taking some Nucynta?
Avatar f tn s a day now that opanas are off the market until about June or July my pain Dr.
Avatar m tn The first pathway can slowly destroy the stomach lining and over time, cause ulcers or GI bleeding. Celebrex is the only medication that does not go down the COX-1 pathway very much. Others were developed (Vioxx and Bextra), but then recalled due to issues with people having heart problems. So, if you do not have GI bleeding or an ulcer, you may want to ask your doctor about other NSAIDS.
Avatar f tn I was on Celebrex for 15 months (I was on treatment for 18). The problem with Celebrex is that long term use can be hard on the heart.
