Common Questions and Answers about Causes of vaginal discharge

Avatar f tn green vaginal discharge is a sign of Trichomoniasis, which is an STD caused by bacteria. To my knowledge this is the only infection that causes green discharge. Bacterial vaginosis causes a fishy smelling white discharge, a yeast infection causes a thick clumpy white discharge. you need to see a doctor as soon as possible and get antibiotics.
Avatar f tn So if you are any where near your ovulation date, then this is a possibility (say 10-17 days after the start of your last period as you are in). Pregnancy too causes a white discharge. So if you have missed your periods or are likely to get them in 4-5 days, then pregnancy could be the cause. Take a test if you have missed or if you miss your periods. Yeast infection to begin with only causes a white vaginal discharge without causing itching or pain during sex.

It also causes a curd-like vaginal discharge. There may also be skin involvement wherein the skin around the vaginal area also becomes infected and become red and have rashes. 1626827 tn?1299434776 o A thick, white, itchy, cottage cheese-like non-odorous discharge is often caused by a yeast infection. Common Causes of an Abnormal Vaginal Discharge * Vaginitis: Vaginitis is a general term that means "vaginal inflammation." Vaginal discharge and genital itching are the symptoms of vaginitis. Vaginitis may occur because of chemical irritation (e.g. excessive douching, or excessive use of over the counter yeast medication) or vaginitis may have an infectious cause.
Avatar f tn Hello, Bacterial vaginosis is the most common cause of abnormal vaginal odor and discharge. It is caused by a change in the type of bacteria found in the vagina. The exact cause for the change in type of bacteria is still not known, but it is can be due to IUD’s,multiple sex partners or having intercourse with a new partner. In addition to unpleasant "fishy" vaginal odor, thin white or yellowish discharge from vagina may also be present.
Avatar f tn You need to have either direct genital skin to skin contact (or oral to genital) to transmit, or mouth to genital, genital to genital, or genital to anal penetration. You might get a yeast infection, or staph or MRSA though. Those live longer outside a human host. None of those would cause a green discharge, though. I wouldn't overly worry about this. I can't think of a vaginal infection that causes a green discharge. Next time, maybe wear underwear.

Avatar f tn As of yesterday I have had a tiny bit of brown discharge when I wipe after using the bathroom. I haven't had sex for about 3 weeks (though I know that means nothing) and I had my period 2 weeks ago. I do take birth control and my boyfriend and I always use a condom when we have sex. I'm known for being paranoid but I've never had brown discharge before! Is it likely that I am pregnant? Could my spotting be from my period? I need some help, is all..
Avatar n tn There is alot of discharge, I have had to start wearing a panty liner. There is usually alot of discharge. I have taken three rounds of Vandazole. This doesn't change a thing. I guess the color is kinda white or light yellow. It doesn't really have a smell except when I have had a pad on for a while I can smell it. My main concern is that there is alot and it is so very sticky. It pulls hair out when I take my panties off. What should I do? Is it menopause? Hormone imbalance?
Avatar f tn Antibiotics for a yeast infection are contra-indicated as they are one of the CAUSES of yeast overgrowth and candida. How did your doctor know the 2nd time that the yeast infection was transformed to bacterial vaginosis? Not sure about this. I know that BV even if treated with antibiotics can recur. Lab tests on a sample of vaginal fluid can determine if BV is present or not. You may still have an untreated yeast infection.
Avatar n tn i need to know the causes of vaginal oders. i am a very clean person, so dont tell me that one. its just that sometimes during sex i have an oder. i need to know if this could be a serious life threating thing or what?
Avatar m tn There are many causes of vaginal discharge in women and many of the causes are not STDs and many of which represent normal variation in individuals over time. One of the most common causes of discharge in women is a processes called bacterial vaginosis which is an overgrowth of the bacterial normally present in the discharge There are many other causes as well. My advice would be that your GF should seek the advice of her gynecologist.
Avatar f tn An yeast infection usually causes itching plus discharge. If yeast you can get over the counter cream at any store.
Avatar f tn Have this checked by your gynecologist for proper evaluation. Diagnostic tests including culture and microscopic exam of vaginal discharge, pap smear and urine and blood studies (including hormone levels) may be done to help with the diagnosis. Take care!

Avatar f tn Although vaginal itching is the hallmark of yeast infections and other vaginal infections (including sexually transmitted diseases, STDs), itching in the vagina and vulvar areas has multiple causes. Vaginal itching can also arise due to chemical irritants that may be found in detergents or soaps, douches and vaginal creams, toilet paper, bath products, feminine hygiene products, and vaginal contraceptive products.
