On Feb 1 I developed a severe red scratchy throat, and I still had several mouth ulcers. I took Augmentin 500 3x/day for 10days. After the 10days I still had a sore throat that feels like an ulcer down my throat, and I also still had about 10 mouth ulcers as well as swollen gums. I went to my Internal MD and he put me on Medrol dose pack and Levaquin. This initially helped w/ the mouth ulcers but the one down my throat got much worse. I was given a Celestone inj and put on Orapred.

As for apthous ulcers, they may be small shallow ulcers to larger ones termed major apthae. The cause of apthous ulcers is unclear and they may be triggered by stress, diet and even viral infections. These disease conditions may be self limiting. Mucocele are clear bumps on the lip and may resolve spontaneously. Cold sores and apthous ulcers have no definite form of treatment.
Does the Combivir point to any of these symptoms? I realize the light sore throat and neck pain are probably unrelated.
Do any of these point to HIV seroconversion? Would the Combivir lessen the side effects of seroconversion? Or is it an "all or nothing" type thing, where I would be getting full-blown symptoms of the PEP was not working?
If I finish the treatment of Combivir and my liver/kidney function fine, are there any longterm implications of the 28-day course of the drug?
My guess is, that unless a swab test was taken from your throat that was positive for HSV 1, your doctor was covering all the possible diagnoses for ulcers in the throat and that would have to include HSV. Does your doctor know that you tested negative for HSV 1 repeatedly? Do you know if you had a swab test from the ulcers and what the result was?
The dictionary says there may be no symptoms or mouth ulcers, and the doctors of this site state that initial symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, fever, blisters, etc. I've read they may include headache, fatigue, and muscle ache. Can someone summarize the symptoms of initial infection as opposed to recurrent infections?
In the past I tested negative for HSV 1 and 2. I had a recent encounter with kissing, protected sex, and unprotected oral sex. Her std status was unknown.
i have sore red ulcers in the back of my throat. I have had these for at least 2 years now. I went to the doctor and he gave me some antibiotics...they did not work at all! Recently i went to a GUM clinic to ask about causes etc. The nurse was very unhelpful and asked why i though it was an STD. He then mentioned an HIV test which freaked me out. He told me to go to my GP. I am sooooo worried now. Until recently i also had a type of white head on the side of my toungue at the back.
Six weeks is plenty of time to show a good indication of your status. 99% of people who test positive will do so by 6 weeks. If you test negative at 6 weeks, you can expect another negative at 3 months.
As for your symptoms, they are meaningless in terms of gauging your HIV status and cannot be addressed here or any other internet forum. See a doctor if they concern you.
All sores are inside the mouth (none at all on the outside of the mouth or around the lips - ever), on the soft palate around the mouth and on the sides and underside of the tongue and below, not the gums and not inside the throat but on the soft palate of the throat - in front of the tonsils.
We don't talk about symptoms because lack of or symptoms will not tell you anything about HIV.
A test now will give you a good indication, but at 3 months it is conclusive.

its also quite inflamed. i still have the sores at the back of my throat but my toncit area is now also red. im worried of gingervitis (sorry abou that spelling!) however its not red around my teeth and as you can see in the photo i have great teeth with minimal damage (first filling recently at 25) im getting a bit nervice this could be something more. i just have had some strange things the last two months.
This time I went to the doctor because the back of my throat also had ulcers. The doctor swabbed one of the ulcers and said she was gonna send it to be tested for herpes and for shingles. She said if they didnt call then the tests were negative. So I didn't get a call, the ulcers slowly went away, and I was relieved. However, in the past week and a bit the ulcers have been reappearing, and the glands in my neck are swollen and painful.
This can happen, but there is a bug that causes the symptoms called helocobactor (not sure of the spelling) that can go undetected but cause ulcers and related symptoms when untreated. My uncle recently had a heart attack and is now fine, but the meds he is on revealed a stomach ulcer (caused his stomach to bleed as they aggrevated his ulcer) that he was completely unaware of, being that he does not drink and previously had no symptoms.

back at the beginning of April this year I had a sore throat, I looked and saw I had a few ulcers/blisters in the back of my throat, I have never had these before, and they weren't there previous to that, I had just come off Omeprazole which I had been taking for acid reflux, and had been on them for 9 weeks.I had also just come off Yasmin contraceptive pill that i had been taking for around 8 years.
8 months ago I had unprotected vaginal intercourse with a csw,I started having symptoms of muscle aches,headaches,fatigue,rash on hand ,sore throat,pain behind knees,elbows,armpits 4 weeks after the incident.I still have those symptoms on and off.Also I keep getting red erythema like spots on the tongue which go nes away after 3-4 days.I tested neg. for hiv,syphlis,hepatitis,chlamydia,gonorhea 2 months after exposure,hiv tested was repeated at 4 months after exposure was neg.
If she does have an ulcer, she needs to stay away from acidic foods when it flares. This will make it burn worse, some people have the same reaction to spicy foods. If she is under a lot of stress, it will cause an ulcer to flare. I have one and have the same feeling of intense heartburn, and if it gets really bad, I do feel nauseas. Drinking milk usually helps, because it coats the lining of your stomach so that the burning calms down.
- Small ulcers in mouth (mostly one day and then gone again) and redness in top of mouth (only one day). Georgraphic tongue started shortly after which took two weeks to heal. I went to a doctor for that as I never had that before. He did a tongue swab but nothing was found by the lab.

I, too, have had a slight fever, but severe pain from ulcers on my tongue and on the roof of my mouth. The pain is from the tip of my tongue to the root, palate, throat, and even to my right ear. An MD glanced at my mouth and said I have a few ulcers and offered only some numbing mouthwash. I want to know why this is happening, not put a bandaid on it.

m now experiencing this somewhat painful numbing feeling starting at my left cheekbone, down the left side of my throat and over top of my heart. My voice goes hoarse sometimes and I have an excess of phlem that needs to be cleared from my throat. I'm trying to find answers, or others who have or had the same symptoms.
