My Dad was recently put on oxycontin- short term- for hip pain. He is having surgery next week. My Mom called telling me that Dad was having to concentrate on his breathing, was dizzy and having problems concentrating. I told her to bring him to the hospital. I will be leaving to meet them but I thought that these were all signs of a overdose. I really haven't had these signs when I was abusing so I am not sure. Can anyone enlighten me?

oxycontin plus FIFTY-SIX 20 mg. oxycontin, EIGHTY-FOUR 30 mg. clonazepam plus SIXTY of another drug??? All at the same time?? What do you usually take for your pain? Is it possible you vomited them up? I don't see how you could possibly have taken even just one of those and been okay. Chronic pain can make you feel like there's no way out. Do you see a pain management doctor? Have you got second opinions?

s absolutely possible. It sounds like she was comatose! Oxycontin causes low blood pressure. Too much will,of course,cause a very big drop in blood pressure. In turn,kidneys don't get enough blood supply(along with other organs) and will have trouble functioning properly. Who are the "they" that gave her the oxycontin? Speak to the doctors caring for her now and ask them to explain all this to you. Just my opinion but oxycontin is a bit of overkill for gout!

I was reading up the effects of crushing up the oxys and it read that doin so would or could result in an overdose.. i am in the process of tapering off... i was just woundering just for peice of mind what the dose would have to be to actually overdose... i am currently on 120mgs a day and dropping.. i am scared a night sometimes to fall asleep do to respitorie depression.. thanks any feedback would be appriciated.

Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same thing, EXCEPT oxycodone is a quick release tablet, and oxycontin is a slow release of the same med. Hydrocodone is the ingredient in Vicodin and Lortab. Although they are all narcotics, vicodin and lortab are lesser strength than the oxy's and morphine. The one I'm least familiar with is tramadol, although I've certainly read a lot about it, only taken it once.

Due to his illness I want to make sure that when I count his pills that he will not take to much. I would like to know if anyone knows what the fatal amount of 10mg Oxycontin would be fatal. Thank you for your help.

When my son died he left behind 3 sons all under the age of 12. On top of all that crap he took, his death was caused by heroin overdose. I had some oxycontins left (only 10 mg.) that helped me through my grief and loss and yes you feel so much better really fast then once it wore off I felt more depressed than ever. That would be like chewing an oxycontin. They are time released and you could overdose.

I have a question since I am not familar with Oxycodone ER- generic verison of Oxycotin. My Dad had a scare yesterday when he took his Oxycotin but it had broken. Does that mean he got the full 10mg of oxycodone at one time instead of released throughout the day? Wouldn't that be the same as taking 2- 5mg oxys?

t have any idea what he can say to you about your sister because of the laws, but if she passed away because of an overdose and he was prescribing the drug she overdosed on you need to find out some answers. i am so sorry, that is such a sad story. i have a hard time thinking a doc would write a script for that much that often, it's criminal if he did.

I hate to bring this up, but one of my very best friends killed herself by taking 10mg of xanax in combo w/80mg oxycontin (IV). overopiates is right- the concern is what she is taking WITH the xanax and what her tolerance level is. I was devestated when my friend died and would not wish that on my worst enemy! If you suspect that she has overdosed, PLEASE, take her to the er or call 911!

Hi emmaless, Am I reading your post correctly that you were taking 80 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day and 40 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day? If yes, keep reading...LOL. I thought you wrote that you were taking 80 mg and 40mg total of Oxycontin per day. That is why my post to your other thread stated that you were on more medicine through Fentanyl than through Oxycontin. That is not the case if you taking the 80 mg and the 40 mg 3x per day. That is 120 mg x 3 or 360 mg of Oxycontin per day vs.

opiates are the devil ive been hospitalized 10 times due to either overdose of oxycontin or withdrawl! my last overdose put me in a coma for 8 days! that would scare anyone from using again right? wrong 1 month later got back to buying oxys off the street cunning and baffeling!!!

Remember back in the news a couple of years ago people were up in arms about both Oxycontin and MScontin? People were abusing it by either chewing it, or turning it into a liquid and shooting it. Basically, take me, I was on the fentanyl patch at 200mcg/hr (two 100mcg patches) I got 200 mcg of med every hour. So, if I were to eat them or something, think about it, there's enough med in them to give 200mcg every hour and they last 72 hours. I'd kill myself or at least be f'd up.

Personally, I think we need a world wide health revolution. Treat the causes of dis-ease instead of the symptoms. Our society is way too instant gratification oriented, period. Pharma companies are profiting enough. Imagine what the billions of dollars spent on Oxy could do put towards medical research? My pain management doctor scared the crap out of me when he gave me narcon in case I overdose. I want to take 60mg of morphine to see if it will work but I am so scared.
