Avatar n tn Hi, at this age the cause of knee pain are arthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, bursitis etc. As you don't have history of recent trauma, it is unlikely to be ligament or meniscus tear. Investigations like MRI, blood tests like ESR, RF, ANA etc are done to find out causes related to autoimmune diseases. Try cold compression, crepe bandage and pain killers like diclofenac etc.

Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Knee pain is a very common symptom which can occur due to a variety of causes like arthritis, fractures, ligament tears, meniscal tears, chondromalacia, sciatica etc. Proper evaluation will help in making diagnosis. An X-ray would help in revealing any fractures or ligament tears. With the symptoms that you have mentioned, I feel it is a case of damage to the knee joint due to over use.
Avatar m tn The location of the knee pain can be a useful guide to the cause of pain. Avatar n tn if it is on the inside side of your hip it could be the tendon snapping over one of the boney parts of a bone, or if its the outside it could be the band snapping. its not always accompanied by pain, but mine is whenever i sprint or the day after exercise. there are some stretches you could try to try to stretch out the tendons, or physical therapy is reccomended. if neither of these are effected after a good amount of time there surgery you can do.

Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Cyst at the back of the knee is usually Baker’s cyst. This causes pain in the knee. You can consider the removal of this cyst and see if pain subsides. All the best.
Avatar m tn Ok, so the end of last academic year, i had this bad pain that was right above the knee, not in the joint, but above it, but after a while it went away, and i was happy. A few weeks ago it came back, i went to the doctor, and he diagnosed it as a chronic muscle strain. They took x rays and stuff, and it all showed up perfect. They just today took x rays of my hips. The pain has not gone away, btw i was put on crutches and this leg brace thing that only lets me bend 90 degrees.

Trauma, or a sudden turn or twist to the knee can cause a ligament to give out. Go for an MRI and follow up with your orthopedician.

I didn't think anything of it that day, and it never bruised or swelled. I laid off the knee for the remainder of the week, but when i started lifting the next week, anything that put stress on the knee hurt. Squats, Legpress, Deadlifts, they all hurt right at the middle of the knee behind the patella.
