We have tried all types and materials of condoms as well as no condoms (I am on birth control). It swells even when we are going very slow--roughness is not what causes the swelling. We have also used different forms of lube as well, all of which has not helped.

It depends on where the pain and numbness is. There is a cause of numbness of the index finger and middle finger called carpal tunnel syndrome. It usually also has sensory changes of the palm at the thumb, index and middle fingers, and the ring finger on the side near the middle finger. There is a small nodule found at the distal end, towards the base of my right index finger. It started growing and now it is around 5 or 6 mm size. It is movable and firm, i suppose with no pain, only mild pain during pressure. no problem to use my hand for writing or others. could it be a lipoma? will lipoma occur there? any reason to worry?

Such kind of edema primarily occurs due to the abnormal functioning of one of the 3 organs, namely heart, kidney and liver. Firstly, I’ll suggest you to get a complete evaluation of the heart functions by an echocardiography/x-ray chest/ECG etc followed by the functioning of the kidneys/liver by doing their respective tests.
Probably, the problem lies in one of the three organs and I am sure it’ll be picked up by a diagnostic work up.
