Common Questions and Answers about Causes for high glucose levels

glucose

Avatar n tn Go get a blood test done for glucose (sugar) levels. You may just have hypoglycemia. This is the opposite of Diabetes. It means your sugar levels are two low and can cause the symptoms you described. Diabetics experience the same symptoms only because they inject insulin to lower their sugar levels.
Avatar n tn There are many causes for glucose to rise, high anxiety is one of them. Try to locate and attend a diabetes education class. Check with your local hospital as they routinely offer free seminars.
Avatar n tn It sounds as if you have a glucometer since you said you have checked his glucose levels. Do you know what is considered "normal" in glucose readings? Glucose levels for non-diabetics and for diabetic people go up and down all day long. Most doctors don't consider glucose levels to be too low unless they drop below 70, but a person can start to feel a little bit bad if in the low 70's, so this might explain why your son didn't feel like eating when his sugar was at 73.
Avatar f tn I had impaired glucose tolerance due to hyperthyroidism. From the list below - thyrotoxicosis aka too much thyroid hormone. Excerpt from Dr Kaslow's article General lab values..
Avatar f tn I was curious if anyone knew how high and how long at high levels before you are in big trouble as with diabetic coma. Unfortunately ther are some nasty sorts who like to offer smart remarks about things they really know nothing about. I know people who have gone to the hospital with high sugar and never came out alive because they could not get it under control....I am not real certain of the point where thta can happen. and thought maybe someone in here might know from life experience.....
Avatar n tn A rebound happens if your sugar levels go dangerously low. Your body reacts by releasing glucose from your liver. You usually wake up high, because your liver over-compensate and the resulting high BGs are usually hard to get to go down.
Avatar f tn Hypoglycemia is a condition where the blood glucose goes below normal levels. This can be due to overproduction of insulin, certain disorders of the adrenal glands and the pituitary gland, liver and kidney disease, and certain medications. The way to begin to treat your hypoglycemia is to work with your doctor to find the underlying cause. Treating the cause will help to treat the hypoglycemia. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn At this level, the brain still can access circulating blood glucose for fuel. The symptoms provide a person the opportunity to raise blood glucose levels before the brain is affected. If a person does not or cannot respond by eating something to raise blood glucose, the levels of glucose continue to drop. Somewhere in the 50 mg/dl range, most patients progress to neuro-glyco-penic ranges (the brain is not getting enough glucose).
Avatar n tn Most systemic causes such as infections may be associated with temporarily increased blood glucose levels. I would suggest consulting a primary care physician for a detailed evaluation regarding the fever and headache. After a cause is identified it can be managed accordingly. It might also be worthwhile to consult your endocrinologist for control of blood sugar levels. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn I want to know if this causes hot flashes with normal glucose levels at the time? Or with high glucose levels? I get hot flashed quite frequently and my temp rises. Sometimes up to 99.1, other times lower. I am a male so menopause is out. I am on Humalog and Lantus for insulin. Any help would be great. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Blood glucose needs to be controlled or diabetic fetopathy can result.
576054 tn?1217783138 My doctor will be doing tests in a few weeks, but I have had some fairly high glucose levels lately. I also have a history of high blood pressure although that has been better most of the time lately. Tonight all of a sudden I started having a terrible headache and nausea. My glucose level was somewhat high. So either this was due to the glucose levels or due to high blood pressure. Whatever it is, I am so tired of being sick and tired all of the time.
Avatar n tn That makes your liver produce large amounts of glucose (and when you have Hepatitis C, your liver is already putting out large amounts of it).....which causes high levels of insulin.....all bad for the liver.
Avatar f tn I falied both my 1 and 3 hour test :( both times my glucose levels were high. So I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Are u scheduled for the 3 hour one?
Avatar m tn Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white bread, potatoes, rice, etc) tend to increase glucose levels quickly, causing the pancreas to produce more insulin. Over a period of time, body cells can become less sensitive to the insulin, which means we have to produce more in order to reduce the glucose levels. Exercise and diet will go a long way toward avoiding full blown Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune condition, which can’t be avoided or cured.
Avatar m tn I don't see why you can't take a glucose pill. It's just a sugar after all, and that is what you need as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
Avatar m tn I had a full blood check up last week and my glucose levels came back as high for a morning reading at 9.2. I had some more tests today including a fasting test and a hba something or other. My question is soe this now mean i have diabetes. I am very much a night person regularly up til 4 in the morning and eating and drinking before i go to bed. I am white, not over weight and have no family history.
Avatar m tn The body recognizes intense exercise as a stress and releases stress hormones that tells your body to increase available blood glucose to fuel your muscles. If your glucose levels exceed normal levels discuss with your doctor medication or medication adjustment.
Avatar n tn between 70-126 is the number range that many doctors use. But this is for fasting glucose levels only. After meals, it is normal for glucose levels to rise above this, and the numbers quoted as 'normal' vary, depending on which doctor you talk to. I have read that a number of about 140-150 is considered healthy for after-meal sugar levels.
1327535 tn?1295227611 Fruity smelling urine has several causes. What you didn't tell us is how your glucose levels are currently so its difficult to say if uncontrolled/unmanaged diabetes is playing large role in this. When glucose levels are excessive blood sugars are passed to the kidneys which in turn spill them out in the urine. If you breath has a fruity smell you need to see a doctor asap.
1096641 tn?1271707225 "Is my itchiness related to my blood sugar?" My answer is yes and no. Irregular blood glucose can cause itchiness. Liver damage can cause it too. I say this because of your Addiction Recovery profile, which I must congratulate you on for your road to recovery. When itchy does liquid [water or lotion] applied to the itchy area provide temporary relief? If yes, seek referral to a Gastroenterologist and get a either Contrasted CT Scan or a biopsy of the liver.
