Avatar m tn Need help in directing me to specific therapy to work on residual paralysis/weakness in my left hand due to a bout of Parsonage-Turner Syndrome. My grip is weaker but improving. The specific issue I'm having is in playing the guitar, which prevents me from forming a full or partial barre chord (where the first or first and second phalanges press multiple strings against the fretboard).
Avatar n tn specifically, the two finger joints of the pinky, the top joint of the ring finger, the central joint of the middle finger and sometimes the knuckle and central joint of the index finger. My thumb's central joint can be popped but causes no pain or tightness. Pressing my hand flat on a surface and forcing it to remain there causes tightness at the wrist and I can feel what can only be described as a 'spring effect' at the knuckles when I release.
Avatar f tn Hello, i have a unique condition of trigger finger as i get it frequently and it's alternating between my hands and feet. I had three surgeries already on the two hands middle fingers. I saw many doctors but they don't know the reason for it or what causes it. it's not only a tendon lock, but i get it also with swelling and a lot of pain that i sometimes pass out because of it. i'm 35 yo and don't have diabetes.
Avatar f tn Followed up with family doctor in a week, another xray, he said yes cracked around middle joint (side of the middle joint that faces towards middle finger). However the next day he phoned and said no its not broken. About a month later went to physiotherapy which included ultrasound treatment and compressions stocking. This lasted about three to four months. In Spring of this year I had no improvement.
Avatar f tn Can you explain why blood in a saline lock that gets on a syringe and rubs against finger/scratchs finger is not a risk? Basically because my finger wasn't bleeding, its not a risk? If urine with blood got in your eye, is that a risk?
Avatar n tn In 2004 I broke by PIP joint in my pinky finger during a basketball game. I had surgery about a week later and had a pin put in. I then started physical therapy a few days later. From day one I was not able to bend the PIP joint at all. I thought this was due to the fact that I just had surgery. 7 years later I am not able to bend the PIP joint at all. It is basically in a straight line with no movement. My DIP joint won't staighten.
Avatar f tn ve been having minor pain in the smallest joint on my fourth finger on my right hand. Because I work seven days a week during the school year, I never saw the doctor. But it started getting worse. It hurts, if my fist is closed, to bump the knuckle from above. It also hurts to stretch my fingers out (laying flat is okay, but if I try to stretch them at all, it hurts).
Avatar n tn You could have injured interphalangeal joint of your finger. The multiple joint involvement could also be due to infection or due to reactive arthritis. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar f tn 5 years ago) the joint of my elbow has been exhibiting the same thing. It began to lock up in August 2015 which was very painful. Now, both my arms are experiencing limited mobility. Neither are as limited as my legs, but my left arm is pretty close to equivalency. I am worried as this may hinder my ability to use my arms and I need arms to access things. Thank you for any feedback.
Avatar m tn It can even be trigger finger where the joints lock up. Once you unlock the joint by moving your finger, the finger straightens. It can also be a tense tendon. Stretching and strengthening exercises may help. Please show this to your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn The locking progresses in severity from my index finger to my pinkie, with the pinkie finger locking the tightest. I know that trigger finger usually locks the knocking knuckles, but I've never heard of someones base knuckles locking up. Anyone else have this problem? Just as a side note, I had knee surgery a year and a half ago. My knee cap dislocated, and when I collapsed onto my knee, somehow a piece of my femur chipped off.
Avatar f tn I was giving an iv push med through a saline lock. It's a needleless system. I wasn't wearing gloves because it was an urgent situation. Anyways, my hand slipped and the plastic syringe with the medication rubbed against my finger after I tried to attach it to the saline lock. I didn't cut my finger with syringe. There was no bleeding, but I did have some dry skin on my finger.
Avatar f tn s made me a lot less active than I usually am. So, when I started noticing that both pinky fingers were starting to lock up, I thought it was just due to my lack of movement and really only being on the computer all day or sleeping. Now that I've gotten a bit more active, I'm not so sure anymore. The joint locking is painless and mainly in my pinky fingers except for after I sleep, then it tends to impact more fingers. I noticed that there are some fingers I can't lift completely.
Avatar f tn Back in january this year (2011) I broke the end of my left pinky finger. The first surgery was a disaster, the finger was now dislocated! The 2nd surgery (july 2011 at a different hospital!) was a arthrodesis of my left pinky end joint to fix the dislocation (the fracture healed on its own). Now I have a pin in my finger. The pin is only visable on an x-ray as it is internal. Will this type of pin be removed? If so when/how?
Avatar f tn Hi there. The causes of hip lock and popping could be many including subluxation of hip due to shallow hip socket, acetabular labrum tear, systemic arthritis like psoriasis, other arthritis or bony spurs, or structural abnormality in the joint. You need to consult an orthopaedician surgeon to investigate in detail and an Xray of the affected hip joint. Certain conditions could be managed with injections, arthroscopic repair and reconstruction. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn Being dehydrated can cause your joints to lock up. Make sure your drinking plenty of water. You could have pulled muscles or even osteoarthritis or arthritis. You need to see your Dr to have the proper test run to find out whats going on to get the right treatment.
Avatar n tn I've recently been having issues with my right hand/arm. It has been tingling and almost numb feeling. I've also gotten what I've heard called "trigger finger" where some of my right fingers will cramp and lock up. I've reached out to my doc who is working on an appointment. My sister was diagnosed with MS about 8 years ago. Am I being overly concerned? Is there any new research based on genetics for siblings?
Avatar m tn for the past 3 months i would be writing and my finger would lock up. i could pull on it and pop it and then start writing and it would happen again after about 15 min it will go away. it happens only about 2 times a month but it happened when i was takingmy ACT. do you have any idea what this could be?
Avatar m tn My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
Avatar n tn Same type of thing though, bumps that turn purple bruised and stay for a very long time, it also makes my joint swollen.. Ive also been developing joint problems in my elbows, and my hands lock up at night so i am a little alarmed. I attached links to pictures, please let me know if you know what it could be http://www.flickr.com/photos/47602854@N03/4364584611/ i have a appt for a dermatologist soon but what do you think?
Avatar f tn The urologist put me on a lot of medication and nothing seemed to help. In July I started to develop serious joint pain in my knees, fingers, ankles, and elbows. By August the pain continued to spread into my muscles and more joints. Now, I'm having pain in my shoulder and even in my jaw which continues to lock up. Occassionally I'll have very brief tinglining in my hands or feet or numbness in my pinky finger which is followed by more pain.
Avatar f tn I have this odd bump in the first joint of my middle finger that feels like a bone. It's not visible from the outside but if I move my other finger on it I can feel it. Not only that, but if I put pressure on the bump/area it causes a tingling sensation only in that finger tip. If I push on it with my thumb it just feels like a more knobby knuckle (on only the right side) however even that little pressure tingles my finger tip.

Avatar m tn The two areas are the finger tip of my pinky finger there is no abnormal feelings below the top joint, only the tip. And my ring finger but not as severe in the same place the tip and same thing where there is no abnormal feelings below the top joint. All motor control and everything is working fine with two fingers far as I can tell, squishing the tips increases the feeling of paraesthesia, thou this has been going on for over a week by now.
