Common Questions and Answers about Cause of fainting or passing out

fainting

Avatar m tn Cold beads of sweat suddenly appearing on the forehead, juxtaposed with extreme weakness (or fainting) are hallmarks of cardiac ischemia. In other words the heart isn't getting enough oxygen. Why does this cause beads of sweat to appear on the forehead? Nobody is quite sure. But it is one of those things that should cause you to ring up "general quarters". That leads me to the conclusion drnee has reached. A comprehensive heart examination is indicated.
Avatar m tn Many things can cause passing out. Seizures is one of them, but diabetes, hypoglycemia, and heart problems can also cause fainting.
Avatar m tn It can happen when wake from sleep as during sleep blood pressure is usually very low and sudden standing and walking might not instantly trigger nervous system to raise bp or raise heart rate (to reach blood to brain). if both of these won't kick in fast lightheadness and even fainting can occur. Fainting is body's natural way to reach more blood to brain as when lying flat on ground heart and brain on same level. There is tip to reduce it.

Avatar f tn You shouldn't lay on your back after 20weeks. The uterus push down on a major artery call the vena cava. It's the largest artery in the body and it supplies blood to and from the upper and lower parts of your body. That's why they tell you to lay on your left side. Passing out is caused by the blood not getting to the brain.
Avatar f tn Water and Gatorade are your best friend. An increase in blood volume and vasodilation can cause dizziness and fainting in pregnancy. During pregnancy you need to be drinking more than you normally would need to, about 12 8oz glasses a day.
Avatar m tn Acute complications include cough syncope (fainting spells due to decreased blood flow to the brain when coughs are prolonged and forceful) can be an explanation of passing out. Nevertheless, your boyfriend should get a workup on the respiratory and the cariovascular system to rule out a serious medical condition. Avatar n tn potassium, calcium, sodium, vitamin B complex, or vitamins B1, B3, or B6 and Vitamin D. Generally deficiencies of any of the above can cause muscle twitching and spasms in localized or generalized areas of the body. Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. There is a possibility that you are suffering from ‘benign intracranial hypertension’ (BIH). This happens due to impaired CSF absorption.

1937073 tn?1323612750 When you say "pass out" I presume you do not mean fainting. Do you mean you get tired, or fall asleep? My first thought is that you might have low blood pressure. Do you ever bet a little dizzy, especially when you first lie down or stand up?
Avatar f tn m 17 years old and since last year I have been randomly starting to feel sick, then getting really light headed and feeling like I am going to pass out. In May of last year, I felt sick and started to black out, then I passed out in my schools hallway on the way to the bathroom. Around November last year I was at a basketball game at my school and I started to feel sick to my stomach and dizzy but I sat down and eventually felt better.
Avatar f tn However a person with severe uncontrolled acidity or when such a person is hungry or his stomach is empty except for the acid, he may feel dizzy. The reverse flow of contents of the stomach cause a series of neurochemical transmissions, which cause dizziness. It is also related to changing pressure in the cochlear canals of the ear during this process. Discuss this with your doctor. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn Syncope is the medical term for "passing out" and fainting or passing out with harsh coughing is not uncommon, whatever the cause of the cough. The cough may be due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but you should not assume that. If you smoke cigarettes or marijuana, that could be the cause. But, you should check out the cough with your doctor on this and, at least, have a chest x-ray. Most chronic coughs can at least be controlled, if not totally eliminated.
Avatar n tn I think whenever something is new or has changed you need to see a dr. and get checked out. Fainting can be caused by many things. Fainting can cause serious injury and it might be something that is very simple to fix. There are others that a bit more serious so please get evaluated by a dr. Wish you the best.
Avatar m tn However, it could also be due to pinched nerve in the neck. The passing out could be due to vasovagal attack. The complex group of symptoms is mediated by the vagus nerve. This nerve is irritated by prolonged standing, standing up suddenly, stress, pain, hunger, dehydration, intense emotion etc. It can happen post exercise too. A tilt table test, holter monitor (wear this while exercising too), echocardiogram etc are done for confirmed diagnosis. Discuss this with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn I agree with Caregiver that passing out on toilet seat can be a strong vasovagal reflex. The complex group of symptoms are mediated by the vagus nerve. This nerve is irritated by prolonged standing, standing up suddenly, stress, pain, hunger, dehydration, intense emotion etc. A tilt table test, holter monitor, echocardiogram etc are done for confirmed diagnosis. Discuss this with your doctor and get this evaluated as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn I am told this condition is normal and that he will grow out of it? I could really use some detailed info.
Avatar m tn Tests in hospitals in England have come up with nothing but blaming the drop of blood pressure (sometimes as low as 54/47), but can find no cause for why it drops. They succesfully induced the fainting through tests where she had to step up and down a low platform and running on a treadmill, three times resulting in them having to use crash pads to bring her back. Blood tests have pointed to nothing either as far as I know and neither have MRI scans of her brain.
Avatar f tn Yes low blood pressure will def cause fainting. And if you job is to demanding that you are going to keep passing out that is not good. Would it be possible for them to find something else for you to do?
Avatar f tn It affects predominantly young women, usually it is triggered by going from sitting or lying to standing position, which then leads to palpitations, dizziness and, even passing out/fainting. Things like exertion, eating and even stress can trigger theses episodes. POTS is usually treated by cardiologists specializing in the heart's conduction system (electrophysiologists), or neurologists.
Avatar f tn I have had a really bad tooth ache/infection, and I am wondering if that could be the reason I have been getting light headed, blacking out to the point of passing out and sometimes doing a flooping episode like a seziour afterwards, and very low blood pressure? Can you help me on any info of what might be going on with me?
