Common Questions and Answers about Cat sneezing with mucus discharge from nose

sneeze

Avatar m tn Hello, I have a cat who has sense the day we rescued him been sneezing and at points discharging, for a lack of better words, snot balls on the walls. We have taken him to the vet and have received a medication that did not work after completing the full bottle. I don't recall the name of this medicine. My question is, are there any over-the-counter medications that we can give this poor cat so we don't have to pay 50$ over and over again to visit the Vet.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn Now my cat is sneezing less...but still sneezing now and again so I am not sure what to think. She seems normal otherwise (hard to tell if she is having extra cat naps since she is a cat who snoozes). Maybe it was the cleaning products? If it is an infection, what would be the chances only she would have it and not my other cat? They both hang out together and both are indoor cats.....
7532341 tn?1391693986 He slurps his food up in a hurry then he is steady sneezing non stop and blowing his nose. No discharge of any type comes out. This goes on for quite awhile. He was starved to death and on deaths door when I first got him.he is fat and sassy seems to always be healthy and feeling good full of energy. He eats well 1can of fancy feast every morning and oorient six fish as much as he cares to eat. Do you think there is something major wrong should I take him to the vet and have this checked out?
306594 tn?1443387857 ve wiped his nose several times and he is also sneezing and keeps swallowing the mucus. I just wish he could blow his nose the way humans do - I feel so sorry for him. Anyway it comes and goes and I don't know what it could be, has anyone else had this problem?, this is the first year he's ever had it so I'm wondering maybe his age has something to do with it. thanks.
Avatar m tn If so, he may of gotten into a scuffle with another cat. This is often how abscess happen...from an infected scratch or bite. I know hydrogen peroxide can be safely used, however, what I don't know is if that in itself will take care of it. Best of luck and please keep us posted!
Avatar m tn I have this problem...on and off i have white mucous discharge from the nose and i have a bad habit of regularly spitting trying to get rid off it...it could be a virus or infection...but why does it come every 3 weeks? Immune system low?
Avatar n tn This is commonly from an upper respiratory infection, which is from several viruses (like herpesvirus, etc.). The good thing is none of them are contagious to you. Lysine is certainly benign enough. Make sure to isolate your cat from other cats (i.e., if she's an outdoor cat, she may be catching this outside from other cats).
Avatar n tn Sudden onset or temporary clear discharge from the eyes can be caused by injury (although this is unlikely if the discharge is from both eyes), allergic reaction or an upper respiratory tract infection - just like when humans get watery eyes when suffering from a cold. If your cat has a respiratory infection he is likely to also develop a wet nose.
Avatar f tn Iv never seen that much discharge my hole pregnancy also the way it look was like white jelly in my vagina. Could this mean my mucus plug is braking. Or early labor. I also just had a nose bleed.
Avatar m tn so i have a 7 year old lactating persian queen and she seems to have a lot of phlegm.
Avatar f tn in a person clear mucus means that the nose is just running naturally. she's not sneezing like crazy is she? warm not hot tea bags help with congestion, so does a roman bath. lock kitty in the bathroom and run the shower on steamy hot. give kitty a good steam to relieve the sinuses. that actually saved my small cat when she was severely congested. way to go with the kitten milk! my best advice would be just calling the vet. they are very helpful when you call.
2087711 tn?1354908175 I am sick as well idk if its allergies but it started as a sore throat with stuffy nose and sneezing now i have cough which brings up mucus(tmi) and still have the stuffy nose my ob told me i could take benadryl, sudafed and robitussin. I took bendryl for a day stopped bc i forgot how twitchy and anxious i become on the stuff that was 3 days ago.
Avatar n tn He started sneezing excessively . These sneezes are also followed up with what seems to be an excess of saliva/mucous. He always seems startled when this happens and runs around trying to get it out! @ weeks ago I came home and noticed blood on his nose (which is from what I assume him to be scratching it...maybe it was bothering him?
Avatar f tn This was never happend to me before, when I sneezed a mucus with blood and when I search it in google, others said that if you sneezed a mucus with blood, you must stop blowing your nose. Is it true?
3170462 tn?1344717552 However, the sneezing began to get worse and has never gotten better. Alvin spends about 75% of his time with a stuffy nose and sneezes a LOT in an effort to clear his sinuses. Simon has never had this problem. Both cats are indoor. We do not have other pets. Our home is clean with hardwood floors and very few rugs. Alvin is otherwise healthy with a good weight, clear eyes and ears. His appetite is fine. He's responsive, affectionate, and very active.
Avatar f tn My other cat Kramer was adopted at the same time, from the same place, and had even more health problems in the beginning, does not get this eye discharge. What is wrong with my cat? Should I be concerned or is this just allergies? His eyes are not red and he doesn't seem to be bothered by anything else...no itching, no sneezing, nothing inflamed. He eats normal, goes to the bathroom normal, plays a LOT with his brother, etc.
Avatar f tn the discharge ranges from normal translucent mucus, sometimes watery to a yellowish discharge. sometimes() there is some weird grey really tiny pebble ( though soft) like stuff coming out.. what is it and how can i get rid of this cold??
Avatar f tn It is common in pregnancy as the mucus membranes can inflame and cause more discharge. TMI but that is also why vaginal discharge can increase too. As for you sinus/allergy; saline rinses can help. If you think you need allergy meds consult your doctor, many over the counter remedies are not suitable for pregnant women.
Avatar n tn Mine had all gotten URI and one started to cough; what my vet told me was as long as everything is clear, keep your cat comfy, hydrated and eating. If any mucus from nose or eyes turns yellow or green, antibiotics are needed. What he didn't say was coughing is a sign of danger and should not be ignored-one of mine started to cough but wasn't producing anything for a few days until sudddenly he coughed up a huge gob of phlegm; he had pneumonia. Happily we were abie to save him.
Avatar f tn I work with our local humane shelter and we have two cats sneezing with a lot of yellow mucus. One has had it for several months and has gone through several antibiotics from several different vets and steroids as well. Nothing is working. Beautiful, pleasant cats but unable to adopt them out due to this problem.
Avatar m tn The blood vessels on one side of the nose swell up with blood, on purpose, to close off that side of the nose to air. This gives the cilia in the closed nostril a chance to clean out all the pollution and mucus. When it’s clean, it opens up and the other side is closed to repeat the process. The things that swell up to close your nostrils are called turbinates. Keep this in mind when you are blowing your nose. One side will always seem more congested than the other, even if it’s clean.
