596105 tn?1314580333 The vet said its probably because of his weight because she said he sounds fine to her. We had blood work to see if he has diabetes,it turned out completely okay haha...So now we are on our way to losing weight.
Avatar n tn Let's see a 10 yr old cat that's losing weight and losing hair. This, to me, sounds like your cat has an overactive thyroid. Try doing a google search or yahoo search on hyperthyroidism and see if the symptoms fit. There's also a possiblility of kidney disease, as well. That could cause weight loss, too, but not hair loss. My main suspicion is hyperthyroid disease. This can be extremely dangerous because the heart rate increases big time. This can cause heart failure.
405614 tn?1329144114 We were sitting on the couch last night; actually, I was sitting, he was lying with his back against my thigh. I lightly laid my arm along his length to scratch under his chin and could feel his hip bones pushing against my arm. I knew he was getting thinner, but that shocked me. I haven't had a scale to weigh him since I moved into my apartment. I drove to Target and bought a new digital scale today (I've been losing weight, too; for me it's a good thing).
Avatar f tn re cat is eating a lot, and still losing weight, then it is likely your cat has either steroid induced diabetes or a thyroid condition. Good luck and please let us know how he's doing.
Avatar n tn My 9 yr. old cat has been sneezing for over 2 yrs. He also has constant left eye & left nose drainage...sometimes bloody. Vet has no answers here so gave him an antibiotic shot. The shot was ineffective. His appetite is fine.He does'nt purr out loud so I've wondered if it's an obstruction.
Avatar n tn I have a in a 16 year old cat ..with lack of appetite, great loss of weight..now sneezing and nasal fluid sound..( like runny nose at times) ? Also had some vomiting last week..and was not eating at all...
372900 tn?1315512302 ve had a cat that got sooooo stressed by a new cat that she stopped eating and washing herself. I had to give the new cat to my mom. I wasn't a happy camper about it, but I didn't want to put my older kitty through the stress. As soon as the new cat left, she was her normal self again. That is proof to me what stress can do to an animal. I think that if you keep them separated, you'll have wonderful results.
Avatar m tn Prescribed Clindamycin for a whole month. His only symptoms after a day or two back on was increased sneezing (or reverse sneezing and some snorting) He was doing incredibly well after 1/1/2 weeks on antibiotic again, but we started having problems getting it into him. Called the vet on Friday Aug 18 and her assistant suggested holding the antibiotic over the weekend. Called on Monday and couldn't talk to vet until Tuesday afternoon. She suggested giving antibiotic only every other day.
7532341 tn?1391693986 t want to scare you but my Bailey also developed the same sneezing that also included a discharge with small amounts of blood. My Vet made her an appointment with a specialist that did xrays and found a large tumor back deep in her nasal passage, they didnt recommend any treatment other than comfort measures....when she totally lost her sense of smell of course she stopped eating and I had to put her down... but it could also be something lodged in his nasal passage...
Avatar n tn The cat has early signs of kidney disease, elevated thyroid and high blood pressure. For the past 2 weeks, the cat has been not eating enough and is only interested in eating liquids (gravy from canned food, pureed cat food). Last week, the vet did x-rays and blood work and said while the liver is a little large, nothing jumps out as the cause. The cat has lots of mucous in his mouth.
1102792 tn?1285925260 t get up to grab some drugs cos of severe shortage of breath, what saved me was my wife rushing to the nearest drug store and buyin a ventolin inhaler, franol (ephedrine+theophyline) and prednisolone, i felt better immediately but i still feel the asthma lurking in the backgrounds, especially when the sneezing bouts start, i usually ward it off with ventolin inhaler, i know i shud probably be taking the tablets but that puts alot of stress on my heart since i have chest pains due to hbp with sig
Avatar n tn I agree that this could be a bladder infection, but another possibility is that this could be kidney disease especially since the cat is losing weight. Kidney disease happens when a cat is 7 yrs or older. This is not a problem that'll just go away, but this could get MUCH worse. I wouldn't delay taking your cat to the vet.
Avatar m tn t understand why Sammy was losing so much weight. I would definitely bring your cat back to your vet and ask for a blood test. You could also ask for a fructosamine test to see how much sugar is in your cat's blood. I wish you and you cat well. I would get your kitty to his vet asap.
3170462 tn?1344717552 Three years ago, my husband and I adopted two cats. They're brothers, Alvin and Simon, and were a year old when we got them. Before they came to our home, they lived with a friend who runs a Second Chance operation from her home. She found them as kittens (mum was killed by a possum) and weaned them. Both cats were well treated. When we first took them, our friend mentioned that Alvin had started sneezing. We didn't think anything of it. Cats sneeze.
611067 tn?1458591483 My poor babies all have severe head colds. The vet put them on amoxicilin to help to prevent a secondary infection. But, I'm a worried mama! My tiniest kitten is having the worst trouble. She is coughing badly and having a struggle . . .we are taking her back to the vet tomorrow. I'm fearful it could be moving to her chest! What else can I do to help them with a cold? Anything this mama can do - I'll do!
10823174 tn?1413080834 My cat is 9 years old. Two weeks ago we noticed she had lost allot of weight, so we started feeding her can food and she started gaining weight but about 6 days ago she started losing chunks of fur to the point she has a huge spot and you can see her skin. I took her to the vet they tested for cancer it was negative and the vet done nothing but sent us on our way with antibiotics and told me my car was dying. I don't agree with her, but would love to know what's wrong with my cat.....
672939 tn?1227297507 my cat is 16 years old and was doing very well until the end of August. All of a sudden she started to lose her hair around her eyes and ears and it was crusty and bloody. I took her to the vet spent almost $200 and he said her immune system was attacking her own body. He gave her steroids and eye cream and antibiotic. That didn't help. I took her back and spent more money (which I wouldn't mind if I had it) and this time he said she was allergic to fleas.
