eating

Avatar n tn Is he still not eating? Is he picking at his food or just not eating at ALL? It's important to call the vet as soon as you notice the kitty isn't eating, please use me as an example. My cat stopped eating but I figured she was eating when no one else was around since she has an aggressive food loving sister and I didn't notice something was wrong until I pet her and realized she was getting really boney.
Avatar n tn My bichon has lost a lot of weight and now just lies in her bed although she is eating and drinking. Had her bloods done yesterday and vet said today she has very bad kidney failure. She is staying in vets overnight on iv drip. This ever happen to anyone and what was outcome?
Avatar n tn My cat, Miss Kitty has just died from renal failure. We did not notice any symptoms except weight loss and as she was about 14,, we attributed this to being older. She was still active and eating, until one Friday night when she collapsed. We took her to an excellent vet who gave her aggressive treatment over a period of weeks, including IV fluids, saline, blood supplements, phosphorus blocker, CCRF supplements, KD cat food, and we also gave her Astro Oil.

Avatar f tn One of our old cats has been diagnosed with kidney failure. The vet said it is best if he eats Hills prescription diet k/d canned food, and I forgot to ask why this food is better than regular canned food. I looked for ingredients on the can, and there isn't any. Does anyone know why this food is good for the kidneys, or is there something even better?
Avatar f tn he had trouble passing urine, then started to act tired and laying around. Last week tho he passed some funny looking things. he is showing signs of kidney failure, but not sure that causing the wee thing. think it be crystals from the bladder now block his tube. he is nearly 18. and i adore him. hopefully get him back tomm.
Avatar n tn For example, if your senior dog has a kidney problem, the excess phosphorus in the organs might have just tipped him over the edge into full blown kidney failure. If his pancreas has been a bit off, the excess fat may have triggered acute pancreatitis. Obviously, I don't know for certain that is what happened, but those are a couple ideas to consider. I think you and your vet need to start looking into other problems.
Avatar f tn I am very sorry about your poor cat. Cats can get kidney failure at a young age most commonly if, 1. they were born with a kidney congenital abnormality, which is usually undiagnosed until they have a problem, or, 2. they were exposed to a renal toxin such as ethylene glycol poisoning. Your cat may have acute renal failure which can be secondary to a severe bladder or kidney infection or other disease.
Avatar m tn I'm thinking kidneys or diabetes also, especially if this is not a young cat.

Avatar f tn My 6 year 10 month Russian Blue male cat was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with kidney failure. His only symptons were a bout of vomiting and lethargy. His blood work was quite elevated, BUN 83mg/dl, CREA 5.1mg/dl, PHOS 8.8mg/dl. He has been given fluids twice and we have been giving him Azodyl capsules twice a day. Also sprinkling Epikatin on his food twice a day. We have been trying to transition him to renal diet with not a lot of success.

Avatar n tn I'm desperate for help! Here's the situation: My dog was vomiting about 1 month ago and lethargic. I took him to the emergency vet clinic and they did an Xray, which was inconclusive. They sent me to a specialist center to have an ultrasound done. The specialist looked at him and felt that the Xray was inconclusive due to bad technique and recommended leaving him overnight for observation.
Avatar f tn Uses litter box, but still urinating frequently and drinks fair amount of water. Is there a way to tell if she has kidney disease/failure and not pyelonephritis without doing an ultrasound?
681148 tn?1437661591 t know if it makes a difference, but what ever is going on is clearly affecting the right kidney more than the left kidney, since that is where I still get the most kidney pain.
Avatar n tn Cardiomyopathy (because he is eating less), diabetes, kidney failure, cancer, feline leukemia, feline immunodeficiency virus, feline infectious peritonitis, other systemic illness. We are talking about tests which need to be done to reach a diagnosis and treat him accordingly. Other than force feed him and maybe try appetite stimulants, your kitty will not stand a chance if you don't get him treated; that means he needs to go to the vet ASAP.
Avatar f tn We noticed our young, 4 year old indoor cat was losing weight and we took her to the vet only to discover after blood work that she is in kidney failure (she has not been exposed to any anti-freeze, is young and the vet could offer no reason for it). She has been still purring, trying to be her normal self (although she was a bit clingy and we thought something was wrong).
Avatar m tn It is also very important to keep your cat eating a proper diet. Unlike dogs, cats with kidney disease can do well on high protein, low carb, no grain diets of canned origin or home-made. Daily sub cutaneous fluid therapy is also necessary. Your vet can instruct you in home fluid therapy. This is the cat equivalent of dialysis. Any urinary tract infection must be treated promptly, so have the urinalysis performed often.
387767 tn?1345872027 Be sure to discuss all recommended vaccines with your veterinarian. A cat with kidney disease or kidney failure should not be vaccinated at all. Long-term feeding of an all-dry-food diet is also suspected as a factor in Chronic Renal Failure. Cats' kidneys are highly efficient and adapted to life in the desert, where they would get most or all of their water from eating their prey.
Avatar f tn My cat first one died of kidney failure, we had him a year extra due to letting him have the IV fluids, he'd go in for a treatment every other day, I fed him Clinicare, special diet I believe it was the Science Diet. Phospherous binders help. Medication which helps reduce blood pressure, these are usually calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors & diuretics. The calcium channel blocker amlodipine is most often prescribed.
Avatar f tn This causes the bladder to fill with urine and eventually burst if not treated (although the cat often dies of kidney failure and electolyte imbalances before the bladder bursts). Another possibility for a distended painful abdomen would be intestinal obstruction or rupture.
1341923 tn?1276126846 In our veterinary clinic these two products along with daily subcutaneous fluids and Vitamin B12 to combat the lack of red blood cells or anemia associated with kidney failure has been very effective in helping to reverse kidney failure in our canine patients with kidney issues. I hope this information is somewhat helpful. Please feel free to contact our office if I can offer further suggestions.
514349 tn?1272801633 I wanted to know if this was a coincidence or might be due to his eating deli meat. BTW - the vet said he was beginning to show signs of kidney failure on his last visit.
