Common Questions and Answers about Cat broken leg recovery time

broken-leg

Avatar m tn My 6 yr old female cat jumped from a tree branch about 5 ft high. She is always jumping up onto ledges or down from them, she jumps very high, always climbing trees, etc. Anyway, her front paw is now swollen and she will not walk on it, she limps all around. She does not seem to be in pain, she still goes up and down the steps and jumps on and off the furniture and beds, going to the food dish etc.
Avatar f tn Last night we opened our backdoor to find a stray kitty (adolescent male). I noticed he was malnourished and gave him some milk and chicken (all I had for an animal). Then I noticed he was favoring one leg. I think it might be broken! I've called a few places and no one wants to deal with him, of course. They're just going to want to euthanize him instead of help him. So my question is this--- what do I do?!?!?!?!
Avatar f tn I came home from work to day to discover that my niece had been playing with her new cat, twiggy, a ~6 month old male, not yet neutered; current on shots. She was holding it up over her head and the cat objected and began squirming. As she was putting him down he twisted out of her hands and landed badly. He was limping and meowing in pain. When I first saw him he was very calm, but hiding in the hallway. He allowed me to feel all four of his legs, squeeze along the knee joints and paws.
1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.

774189 tn?1235410421 MY DOG ATTACKED MY CAT TODAY AND MY CAT IS LIMPING BUT SHE STILL WALKS ON HER LEG AND WAS CLEANING HERSELF DO YOU THINK SHES GONNA BE OK?
Avatar n tn We figure his front leg was injured the night he escaped because the first vets had noticed that his claws on the same paw were broken - at the time, they did not notice any injury. My cat has been tested for just about everything imaginable - thyroid, diabetes, FIV, FLV, kidney function, etc. Everything is normal. He has a great appetite and doesn't throw up or appear to have any digestive problems.
Avatar n tn Tonight the cat started moaning and favouring his back leg like it was broken. Is there any way the 2 could be related, or do you think it is an entirely different stiuation. Thanks in advance, Ryan.
Avatar n tn The stroke has impacted her left side (her arm and leg). She is now in rehab. She is still has a hard time standing up. We would like to know whether she can ever walk again.
Avatar f tn I wanted him seen ASAP because of the broken rear leg. The x-rays showed that the injury was about a month old and that it was already healed. It wasn't just a little break but the femur was actually snapped off. In order to fix it, they'd have to do a surgery that costs over $1500. Or... amputation (around $450- including pain meds). My question is--- do we HAVE to do anything? When we found him he wouldn't walk on the leg and I thought it was a new injury.
Avatar f tn Step 1: Approach the cat carefully. If your cat is nervous or anxious, restrain the cat if necessary. Step 2: Do not pinch the affected area. If the cat is stung by a bee, scrape the stinger off immediately with a credit card or dull knife. Step 3: If the stung area is swollen and hot, apply cortisone cream and hold ice on skin for a short time. Step 4: Administer antihistamine such as diphenhydramine orally at a dose of 1/2 mg per pound of body weight (e.g.
605060 tn?1220070397 ve seen cats and dogs at the emergency clinic for as little as a minor discomfort of the hind or front leg. Your cat is in obvious pain. A swollen leg, the cat not letting you touch the area and limping is all sign of pain. According to what you've said, the cat might have fallen or got hit by something, and whatever he has in that leg has been progressively getting worse. It might be a broken bone or a bug bite that has now become abcessed.
9552239 tn?1404989880 Hi Neil, Basically, I am okay. I am coughing a lot this morning. I hope I don't have a cold, but it feels like I may have caught one. Oh well, what are you going to do. You asked me what I am allergic to. Interestingly enough, you and are have some of the same allergies. I am also allergic to dust, so house dust, chalk dust, pollen, grass pollen ( especially June grass apparently ), cat dander to some extent and penicillin.
Avatar n tn I, too, found a stray with a problem. My cat's leg was broken and the vet recommended amputation. They could either surgically create a hip for the cat or amputate it's leg so that the cat could jump and run around!
Avatar f tn I had a bad car accident when I was 19 and had multiple fractures. I recovered in about three months from a broken leg, femur, hip, arm, shoulder and pelvis all on my right side.... The docs were pretty impressed but I did it all because I couldn't afford.to stay in bed and needed a fast recoverie. All I'm saying hunn is that just because the situation seems bad it doesn't mean it will be like that for ever.
Avatar n tn I hope you have already taken her to the vet, since this could be serious. Loss of leg functioning could be caused by a stroke or blood clots...that happened to one of my cats when she was only 2 years old. The emergency vet thought she had broken a leg, but couldn't find any fractures (this was in the middle of the night over the weekend), the next morning, when she lost functioning of two more legs, she had to be put to sleep. It still makes me cry just thinking about it...
Avatar m tn PT says I also have lots of muscle tightness, and also right leg muscles have shrunk, contributing to tightness in the right leg. He does therapy every two days 3 times a week since sometimes therapy induces a bit of pain, and the muscles need to rest. He says the  pulling of the muscles on the lumbar spine should decrease over time with strength and endurance.   Some of the stretching of the hamstrings, ETS.
Avatar f tn i once took in an injured baby bunny that my cat had gotten ahold of. it had a broken leg and i rushed it to our vet. they had to put the baby down, but i didn't have to pay anything.
Avatar f tn A few of you asked to be updated on the kitty cat I found (or I should, "Who found us!"). We just got back from the vet. He got vaccinated, medication for an infection in his ears, de-wormer stuff, and x-rays. The x-rays showed a BB pellet lodged in the cat's chest, but that isn't something we have to worry about. But I was absolutely livid inside when the vet told me.
Avatar f tn Neutered cats become more peaceful. If you don't do this, Beckett will start weeing every where to mark. You won’t like this I'm sure. Fortunately for him and you, he is male, meaning neutering is easier than spaying. Usually the cat is fine the next day, jumping and running up and down. This procedure is, thank God, far from being risky or having negative effects. Your cat will look younger, lazier, just a bit… and much more loving.
12457380 tn?1428840823 Some vets automatically give antibiotics now so this does not become a problem. Each cat is different and full recovery time is different , you will know when she is back to her old self.
Avatar f tn We found Beckett a few months ago as a 9-month-old stray that was malnourished with a broken leg. I took pity on him, while my husband ranted about not wanting a pet behind me, and he's been with us ever since. He's even won over the heart of my husband (in just a few hours, actually, LOL!). He's a blue-point Siamese and is gorgeous!
