Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
11389935 tn?1417796609 Hi KCLover, Your Boyfriends cold was HIS. Your cat probably has allergies or an Upper Respiratory Infection (cat cold). Now if you cat has the herpes virus and this URI is one of the symptoms, your older cat can catch it from her. Although if they have been together for sometime they are both immune or both infected already. Theses URI will happen several times a year.

If it is cat allergy, then if you do not take anti-allergic pills, the symptoms will resurface time and again. You can again start the medications (after consulting a doctor) to see if your symptoms subside. Also, you could live away from the cat for a day or two and see if your symptoms improve. However, it would be best to consult a doctor who can examine you.

Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
874521 tn?1424116797 My cat has allergies that cause skin breakouts, I've done the steroid route and this works for awhile, now using a change in food and omega 3's and so far he has only had one small breakout that lasted only 2 days and didn't go on to become open and raw sores. My question is, I've read that sometimes benadryl at .25mg per pound can be successful in cats. Is this also avail in topical form rather than using systemically?
Avatar n tn I have been having this horrible recurring flu. started as a sore throat, then moved onto snotty yellow mucus, and finally went away after I left WDW on our Thanksgiving vacation. So, I just figured it ruined my vacation, but it's like the song goes "the cat came back, the very next day..." except sub COLD/FLU for CAT, and next day for THE NEXT MONTH!!!! I take into account that the weather has been more than erratic and i was beginning my monthly visitor, but jeeze!!
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar m tn I have a cat that when his allergies act up he gets that way. I just had to get him a shot ,kinda like benadryl for cats and he snaps out of that. Hope your cat gets better...
681148 tn?1437661591 And, I have allergies myself and sometimes need a touch of steroid to calm down the worst symptoms, so I thought the same thing would apply to the cat--to use the steroid cream temporarily, to calm down the skin inflammation enough for the skin to heal--then use the Benadryl in the manner that the vet told me after that, as it is a gentle antihistamine. She also said to buy some Zyrtec and give Akira 1/4 tablet each day for her allergies.
Avatar f tn I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else. Thanks.
Avatar f tn My daughter brought her two little shitzu dogs to visit for a few days and had not treated them with the flea preventative that she usually uses, because the weather had been cold and she didn't think there would be a problem. Well, we had some warm days and the dogs brought fleas into the house. Both she and I have a bad allergic reaction to the bites and my husband does not. I flea bombed the house and am still feeling bites. I itch all over and develop bad rash.
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
Avatar f tn (like fleas) can cause allergies. Not saying your cat has fleas....just saying you might want to double check :) Good Luck.
Avatar n tn remember if you get a dog soon, it took me 8-12 months to get 95% relief from my allergies. This means, you will spend at least that much time with allergy symptoms, on antihistamines (which stoppped working for me) and pretty much miserable. There MAY be certain breeds that are lower allergen, this is only because the dog doesn't shed and thus there is less hair floating around. There is still dander on the dog, in the saliva, urine and feces.
362249 tn?1441315018 Sometimes as well -- depending on the house, you can mitigate your allergies if they aren't severe by the places you let your cat be (for instance, not letting the cat sleep in your bed with you, even hough that's a bummer).
Avatar f tn i have so many symptoms of allergies and my entire head is filled with fluid, i can feel it. i hope all this makes sense, as i cannot possible explain everything i am feeling..but sick of air noise in my right ear, and when i move my head it feels like glands swollen and like someone is pulling at the inside of my ears...left ear usually bothers me more then right, although right ear is the ear with air noise, and sometimes it sounds like a watch ticking or keys hitting together..make sense???
Avatar m tn I'm allergic and I know it! I've been allergic ever since I was a little boy and I've learned to live with that. My problem is that during the last couple of years, I seem to get more and more sensitive to the allergens that trigger my reactions, as well as more prone to have shortness of breath as a primary reaction! This year, although spring hadn't affected me so far, I happened to catch a cold (whether it was the flu, a cold or bacterial infection I don't know!
Avatar m tn thanks for your reply.. but my main concern is why can't I breathe?? would a cold do this? would my cat allergies do this? did my asthma come back after 10 yrs because I smoked too much?
Avatar n tn Although I am a smoker I had been attributing recent episodes of breathlessness with allergies. Because if my cat had been in my room and I go to bed I will awake coughing with my nostrils closed up so I would get up take Nyquil and go back to sleep. Everytime that would happen during the day if I tried to nap it would always be when the cat was lying near and during the day when the problem would arise I would take Dayquil and my nostril opens and the coughing would cease.
Avatar f tn Hey girls I have a question... I'm 5 weeks and my baby's daddy is throwing up yellowish and he said some like white foam idk that's what he said.. Is that normal?? He sleeps a lot and it also seems like he's getting a cold or allergies and he takes medicine for allergies or the cold and nothing takes it away could it be he's getting most of the symptoms? I was also told that usually when that happens that the guy gets these symptoms is usually a girl...?
Avatar f tn Hi there. I'm now 21 weeks pregnant and have cold symptoms for several weeks now. Noone around me has a cold or had a cold. I've constantly got a blocked or runny nose, headache and feel hot. Should I be worried or see a doctor, is this common as I never experienced this in my previous 2pregnancies.
