7639611 tn?1392877261 Only a skin test (that tests for cat allergy) will rule out for sure whether it is cat allergy or not. If it is cat allergy, then if you do not take anti-allergic pills, the symptoms will resurface time and again. You can again start the medications (after consulting a doctor) to see if your symptoms subside. Also, you could live away from the cat for a day or two and see if your symptoms improve. However, it would be best to consult a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn it could be allergies or maybe mono? if you have not had this before it can present as sore throat that is ongoing but is also generally along with fever, and tiredness and you had fever, a mono spot test if you have it would show up positive 2 weeks after symptoms first apparantly.
118225 tn?1278654940 I was just curious if there was a long term relief for cat allergies. I have heard many people say there is a simple shot to take them away...but wonder if this is true, and how often the shot would be needed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Defintely the right choice to get rid of the cat (coming from someone with two cats and cat allergies), she is too young to have to deal with severe allergies. Do as much prevention with the dust allergies as well and hopefully the severity of the reactions with colds/flu will decrease.
1116122 tn?1268496794 I have no intention of getting rid of my cat, however, since this is the best my allergies have been around pets in years. Other than Zyrtec, are there allergy shots covered by insurance that I could take, or other allergy medications that are prescription? My insurance company stopped covering Allegra, which was perfect (bummer). Thanks for your help in advance.
Avatar m tn Dog allergies are very common and due to saliva of the dog. “Allergy to dogs is relatively common, as dog allergen can be found in public places, including daycare facilities.” “For people with dog allergy, avoidance of dogs is the mainstay of therapy. Allergy medications are likely to help control symptoms, but in many instances symptoms may persist if the person owns one or more indoor dogs. Allergy shots may also be a good treatment option for people who are allergic to their pet dogs.
Avatar n tn I had taken a CAT scan of my head (to see nasal) and the doc said its sinusitis but he changed it as he said it was too little to be sinusitis and could be allergies (I got cat that changed his mind). He offered immunotherapy later on, should I take it?.
Avatar n tn Some allergen exposure control methods are to clean very well daily (vacuum, sweep, dust), keep the cat out of your bedroom, wash your hands after playing with the cat, and shower before bed. If you can train the cat to tolerate a bath that would be beneficial as well. Otherwise you could try wiping its coat with a damp cloth regulary. There are ways to live with pet allergies and keep the pet.
2075937 tn?1334884194 Its actually good for kids to be around animals, housemites and dirt there is research to suggest that it helps prevent allergies, and that the increase in allergies these days is because our houses are too clean so kids are not building a resistance...
Avatar f tn avoid your allergy if dust wash your bedsheets frequently dust vacuum clean up ext....i feel your pain i have horrible allergies and prego rhinitus thats everything i do benedryl works best for me zyrtec is also safe....
Avatar n tn It makes my eyes itch, throat sore and i feel as if i have bugs on my skin. The maids use their own vacuum and I am convinced they are bringing in something. I suppose it could be coming from dust or something being stirred up that was in our house to begin with. We have pets but they have never seemed to be a problem. When we clean ourselves there is no problem. Every time the maids come the problem is worse than the time before.
Avatar f tn my cat has broken skin everywhere his back around his buttocks his chin . can anyone tell me what this can be. i think it's mange. both of my cats get regular flea baths. no matter how much vaccuming clean of litterbox i do they come up scratching .
Avatar m tn Even if you do not have previous allergic reaction to the cat, the cat can still indirectly cause your allergies to flare up. Aside from possible reaction to the shampoo used by the animal, other allergen such as pollen, mold, and other allergens may be responsible and these can stick to the cat's fur.Antihistamine medication may help provide relief. If it persists, you may need to have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
203342 tn?1328737207 Actually, being allergic to cat hair of any length is quite rare. The more common cat allergy is to various proteins contained in cat saliva. These proteins can be deposited on hair and skin when the cat grooms itself and then become airborne when hair or dander (dead skins cells are shed. More likely the symptoms are from dust, mold, and other debris that get kicked out into the house when you first few times the central heating system kicks in.
Avatar m tn Also remove drapes, feather pillows, upholstered furniture, non-washable comforters and soft toys. Replace carpets with linoleum or wood. Vacuum (with HEPA filtered vacuum cleaners) soft furniture and curtains as well as floor. Wash all bedding in hot water every 7 to 10 days.Pls don't use mattress pads. With these modifications, your chances of being exposed to the allergens decreases. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing.
691935 tn?1421027090 Yes sadly you are probably correct. BTW, with my 4 cats I have two Roomba's set to automatically vacuum daily, upstairs & downstairs plus a regular vacuum. I wonder if she works?
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
725941 tn?1297882209 Let the product sit a while and then vacuum it out with a wet-dry vacuum (like a Shop-vac). Then wash with soapy water and vacuum it out again with the wet vac. That will take care of clean-up but you will still have to deal with the cat. Cats spray and pee inappropriately if they have a urinary tract infection or if they are feeling displaced. If you're sure it's not a UTI, then the latter is probably the case.
Avatar f tn Our last cat, Abby was terrified of just the very Sight of the vacuum. Now, Jade is a whole different story and doesn't even flinch. I've never actually vacuumed a room while she's in it just since it's so loud, but I can get right up to the inside of the bedroom with her on the bed and no reaction from her, at all. Jade totally hates a broom, though, and will run when I get it out.
Avatar f tn Sprinkle it around like Tidy Rug and tap or brush it in, then vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Wash the blankets and sheets on the beds. Vacuum everywhere the cats hang out and a few places they don't. Between the daily or twice-daily combings, and the vacuuming, you should see good results in a couple of weeks. If this is too much work, go to your vet and get some Frontline, and put it on each kitty. I think it is also available online.
