Common Questions and Answers about Cat allergies vaccines

cat-allergies

Avatar n tn Sudden onset or temporary clear discharge from the eyes can be caused by injury (although this is unlikely if the discharge is from both eyes), allergic reaction or an upper respiratory tract infection - just like when humans get watery eyes when suffering from a cold. If your cat has a respiratory infection he is likely to also develop a wet nose.
874521 tn?1424116797 Akira's vet signed a paper for me to give to my landlord stating that she is getting too old and is not exposed to other cats and lives indoor only. So now we don't have to be concerned with all those unnecessary vaccines that have a greater potential for harm. It was after a routine vaccination that my previous cat started showing the first signs of IBD, so thi has already been on my mind concerning my present cat.
Avatar n tn hi...I had a cat b4 that also had reactions from vaccines. she would bleed profusely frm the rectum. the following year my vet tried a different mixture(not sure what?) and same but worse...she passed 2 large clots. I immediately took her back 2 vet and all he could thk it was is again a reaction of some sort. his recommendation we d/c all vaccines with her, we were fairly safe in doing so as she was an 'indoor' pet....
495284 tn?1333894042 Hi i have a 7 yr old male cat. Yesterday i took him to the vet for his regular shots and he also was given the luekemia vaccine. Today he is tired, not eating or drinking much at all. Is this the norm after these vaccines?? He isnt vomiting and doesnt feel warm its just not like him to be this way. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you sara Hi Savas!!!!! You really are the CL for cats!!!!!
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn We have tried dieting with certain food groups to check for food allergies and his condition did not change, he is an outdoor cat and we have also tried keeping him in for a month + and yet again no change to his condition. We've tried bathing him with hypoallergenic shampoos and yet again, no result. Please if you have any idea of how or what we could use to potentially help his condition let me know. It would be much appreciated.
Avatar m tn When my friend adopted her cat from a shelter she was told that this cat had been treated for URI and was no longer contagious even though she continued to have trouble breathing (making noises). Then my friend adopted another cat and this second cat did not get sick although there was a time when he would not eat for a few days. Then my friend and her cats moved in with me about 2 years ago and 6 of my 7 cats got sick with URI.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
203342 tn?1328737207 I have to agree with you and the vet that there is no need to stress her out with vaccines and trips to the vet. She is an older cat. She is indoors, and she is well taken care of. The weight loss may very well be just age related, April. Please let us know how she does on the new diet. Hopefully it will not stress her digestive system and cause more vomiting. Poor thing. Poor kitty. I am truly hoping you will get to spend many, many more years with her.
Avatar n tn My Bengal cat contracted calcivirus in September from new kittens we got from a rescue group. The kittens were not sick and had been vaccinated, but must have been carrying the virus. He was very sick, but recovered after a lot of support. I took him to the vet 12/23/08 to have his FVCRP vaccine to make sure he was protected in the future. Around a week later, he began to act like his joints hurt, had respiratory symptoms and was generally lethargic and not himself.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar f tn My seasonal allergies (as well as dust mitea, etc.) are very bad. I understand that allergies are also a type of autoimmune disease in itself. Elaine Moore tends to believe that immunotherapy (allergy shots) makes Graves Disease worse, and can possibly bring on the Graves Eye Disease. She recommends that allergies be treated with the cortisone-type nose sprays and antihistimines instead, because of the nature of an autoimmune disease. I was about to start shots, but now I am reconsidering.
Avatar f tn I took my 10 month old cat to the vet yesterday evening to get the rabies and Fel V vaccines, and she was fine when we came home. When I woke up this morning, she was just sitting on the floor and wouldn't even move. She is normally a very active cat (she is a Bengal) and this is so not like her... She wouldn't even eat her favorite treat and won't even lie down. When I try to pick her up, she cries and her hip (where the shots were given) seems to bother (or hurt) her.
Avatar n tn I wanted to get her looked over and discuss what vaccines the Vet thought she might need given her sedentary, indoor lifestyle. The Vet recommended rabies and upper respiratory disease vaccine. We discussed the pros and cons of giving her so many vaccines at one time as well, and decided that it would be okay. So the Vet administers the vaccines and begins putting the vaccine labels in Mija's file and says "oops". "Opps?
Avatar m tn Well, I wouldn't freak out. I've vaccinated all my cats on a regular basis for years, including the leukemia vaccine in its early forms to now, and have not seen a problem; certainly nothing like the loss of a leg. Also, you don't know for sure what the vet did, so try to stay calm, he might have done everything correctly.
Avatar f tn I am so very sorry to hear kitty isn't doing well....I wish him all the luck in the world to pull through this. sounds like you've done good research and are doing all you can to help him out. MY cat book recommends 250mg Vitamin C.I would start with less maybe for a small kitten...adjust if kitty develops stomach upset, keep in mind calcuim ascorbate is easier on th stomach than ascorbic acid. the best one that I use is by NOW foods, safe for cats, no sugar, salt, soy or preservatives...
508364 tn?1210812146 Either way your dog needs his regular vaccines too allergies should be the least of your worry because he could be exposed to something more dangerous and contagious for your kids as well. We see a lot of Pits in our clinic all the time with allergies but proper overall healthcare is necessary! Please read any of my earlier posts about managing allergies and my tips on buying meds and keeping the vet bills down. Good luck and please be a responsible pet owner and get your pup his vaccines!
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
Avatar f tn over the next couple weeks i started getting vertigo whenever it felt like my ear was starting to open it would last 2 hours to 10 hours, not getting any answers from my doctor, i went to the emergency rm.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
