How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!

I used to have a cat allergy and it was severe. Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??

The daugher with the issues just turned 2, was diagnosed with asthma about 6-8 months ago (does breathing treatments regularly with Albuteral). She was allergy tested yesterday and came up with a 4/5 allergy to cats. She has moderate to severe eczema being treated with topical corticosteriods (Elidel, Elocon, something else) and has now been prescribed what is probably the REST of the list of cortocosteroids by the allergist. We've tried Singular in the past, but it made her mean.

My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

This is the second time I have used frontline plus on my new cat. The first time , he was severly flea infested and was pulling his hair out. After applying the frontline he stopped this behavior. Here’s the kicker, he has lots of allergies and is highly allergic to cats... and he has a cat. He used to suffer when anywhere near cats but for some reason they picked up a stray cat and wouldn’t you know it, ever since then these symptoms started and have been getting worse. no this sure isn't normal...usually when there is a loss of fur or 'ripping' out its always due to allergies...the allergies can be inhaled, ingested or environmental. I am assuming the food and litter has remained unchanged. that makes me think its either something in the house your kitty is reacting too....was there a product used to clean the carpets..for instance. Or fleas? flea allergy can also cause this to happen. copy the link below for more info and photos..

Some allergen exposure control methods are to clean very well daily (vacuum, sweep, dust), keep the cat out of your bedroom, wash your hands after playing with the cat, and shower before bed. If you can train the cat to tolerate a bath that would be beneficial as well. Otherwise you could try wiping its coat with a damp cloth regulary. There are ways to live with pet allergies and keep the pet.

it could be allergies or maybe mono? if you have not had this before it can present as sore throat that is ongoing but is also generally along with fever, and tiredness and you had fever, a mono spot test if you have it would show up positive 2 weeks after symptoms first apparantly.

I have had cat allergies all my life which is a REAL bummer because I'm an animal lover and love kitties! My main symptoms? Itchy eyes. I get one cat hair near me and my eyes turn red, swell, start watering and then itch horribly. This is a common allergic reaction to cats. If it is a new cough, I'd say it's likely a virus and coughs linger with that. Once the air way is irritated, the cough will stay for a bit. But all allergies I suffer and my son involve itchiness.

A cat that was injured before or hurt in any way often pull there hair out. Pain causes them to pull out the hair in places where there in pain or either itching from healing.

When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?

I've developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.

The allergy would be to cat dander, which as Linda said, is actually pollen and other irritants that migrate to cat fur. The symptoms are those typical of airborne allergies and rarely cause skin itching. However, if the cat has fleas that could certainly account for your itching.

As a matter of fact, there is a pet allergy specialist in Orange County. I used to bring my cat there (she had similar problems). I think they were in Tustin, but to be honest with you, it's been a long time and I can't remember the name of the place....
