Avatar n tn What kind of allergies does your cat have? If she's allergic to food, you may want to try a natural diet. It's a hassle to deal with raw meat but it pays off, there are recipes for that online. You can make a whole batch and freeze the rest and feed it to her gradually. It's also cheaper than buying cat food. If it's not food allergies, you may want to try a natural(raw) diet anyway- it will raise her immunity and perhaps relieve her allergies.

Avatar m tn Has anyone used natural therapies for allergies with success? I found this: http://***.*****.com/allergies/all-modality/allergies/miscellaneous/which-alternative-therapies-are-used-in-the-treatment-of-allergies-and-how-effective-are-they.html which seems like a great resource. I've tried QBC (quercitin, bromelein, Vitamin C) mixes and had some luck with those, but only if I remember to take them all the time.
874521 tn?1424116797 My cat has allergies that cause skin breakouts, I've done the steroid route and this works for awhile, now using a change in food and omega 3's and so far he has only had one small breakout that lasted only 2 days and didn't go on to become open and raw sores. My question is, I've read that sometimes benadryl at .25mg per pound can be successful in cats. Is this also avail in topical form rather than using systemically?
Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
Avatar f tn I agree about the steroids. My cat's vet insists that cats process steroids differently than we do. Well, anyway, I couldn't afford to take the cat back to the vet check up that is required to get the prescription refilled. I do think my cat is better off with me just giving her 1/4 tablet of Zyrtec in a day when her allergies are bothering her the most. So, I'm not even giving it to her everyday. This is in line with what I do for myself with the antihistamine I use for myself.
874521 tn?1424116797 I agree, because I do the chemical free cleaning for myself already. I can see for myself that this has benefited Akira, too. My comment on your other post fits here, too. It's another funny Akira story. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Cats/WHY-do-cats-like-the-smell-of-bleach/show/1681374#post_7689129 I'm sure I speak for all the cat lovers on this forum when I say that cats are delightfully intriguing, highly intelligent unique individuals with minds of their own.
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
Avatar n tn Is there any kind of natural treatment for this.? It has been getting worse and more frequent lately. Also what is the best type of litter to use with a cat with this problem. ?
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn A cat that was injured before or hurt in any way often pull there hair out. Pain causes them to pull out the hair in places where there in pain or either itching from healing.
Avatar m tn My kitty who was born and raised in the desert has began licking all the fur off her tummy after 1 1/2 months in our new city. I took her to her new vet here in town and we tried the prednisone treatment. It worked, and we had her on it for over a month. I heard it is bad to have a steroid as a long term treatment, so I decided to take her off of it. Especially since she is heavy and at risk for diabetes... This wasn't a good choice to keep her on the prednisone treatment.
1474611 tn?1416632958 My cat is so itchy. He's got little tiny bumps under his chin, behind both ears (right one is worse). He very rarely goes out. And when he does, he's not out for more than maybe 10 minutes. He's 2.5 years old, weighs about 15 pounds, and has short fur. His diet hasn't changed in the whole time I've had him. Flea stuff doesn't seem to help him either. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn s Food,” become a label-reader, and choose only good-quality natural foods for your cat or dog. Also consider supplements, such as Omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, and digestive enzymes, that will enhance your pet’s digestive and immune systems, and help avoid nutritional deficiencies that can cause so much misery. 2. Infection – Skin infection (pyoderma) is surprisingly common in pets.

1716071 tn?1308803156 Hi Guys , I am just chiming in to let you know my cat has food allergies. I was told to put her on Natural Balance Duck or Venison soft food as well as their hard food for treats. You cannot allow your cat to have anything other than these 2 things--no treats, table scrapes, tuna juice etc. This will take at least a month to 3 months before you know if it is an allergy. You need to give it time. My cat has now developed IBD and Pancreatitis so she is on the Prescription Hills Diet Z/D. Yuck!
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
7532341 tn?1391693986 I have a retired persian show cat. He has the very flat face. He was a rescue cat and I have had him about 3months. I also have 2 humiliations, I bought as baby's. They are 9 years old and the rescue cat is 12. The rescue cat does not meow but he makes funny noises. He slurps his food up in a hurry then he is steady sneezing non stop and blowing his nose. No discharge of any type comes out. This goes on for quite awhile. He was starved to death and on deaths door when I first got him.
Avatar f tn My dog had her blood work tested for allergies and is currently having shots now for almost a year. Her stomach is breaking out so bad now and her skin on her stomach has got so thin from all the Cortizone sprays, injections etc.. Our vet has takin her off all Cortizone do to skin thinning out. Do you know of any other product we can use instead of Cortizone. "Jersey" our dog is always licking and not resting much because of this.
535822 tn?1443976780 Have you any ideas what I can do about the allergies I have , this year seems worse than ever, what natural meds are there out there the OTC other stuff makes me feel sick .
Avatar n tn My 9 year old cat was just diagnosed with Feline Lukemia. I was wondering what natural supplements have been shown to improve quality of life for cat's with Feline Lukemia..
Avatar f tn My cat Jimi has severe allergies. We think the dust is causing it as we live on the desert side of Maui, Hawaii. The vet doesn't know actually what is causing it either . The redness got so bad in his right eye he caused an ulcer which is taking forever to heal and now both eyes are red, bulging and sore. I bathe him once a week, wipe his face clean everyday , have his head in a cone (so he can't rub his eyes) and with the vets recommendation have tried every drop/ointment known to man !
