I'm so confused! My cat has allergies, and the vet has given her steroids, but that only helps for a little bit and I don't want to keep giving her that. I got out a healthy alternative book for cats and it says to give her garlic, and for her to breathe eucalyptus oil. I looked online at other sources which say garlic and eucalyptus oil are toxic to cats. I don't know what to do! I don't want to kill my cat, but she needs some relief! How do I know whats the truth? Help please!!

so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?

the vet also told me it looked like he had allergies, so he is getting zinc,vitamin c and d and I finally found a multivitamin that he will chew. when I first got him he was eating cheap cat food. Well my dog and 2 cats are on Abady granular , its the only one that my dog Giselle doesn't have allergic reaction too, and her coat and the cats coat look great. well it took a good month before Coby would eat this.

How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?

Cats won't care as long as you still love them too.

Personally I wouldnt have any of my pets let near my baby because theyre new to the world and it can cause early on allergies and or asthma. But if you want to try it out, I would just keep an eye on the cats when they get close to baby and do my best to teach them that baby isnt a toy or another animal.

My cat has allergies that cause skin breakouts, I've done the steroid route and this works for awhile, now using a change in food and omega 3's and so far he has only had one small breakout that lasted only 2 days and didn't go on to become open and raw sores. My question is, I've read that sometimes benadryl at .25mg per pound can be successful in cats. Is this also avail in topical form rather than using systemically?

However, you can become allergic to them years after, I had my one cat for 10 years before any allergies and 15 years before I developed asthma. If you do get one, try to keep it out of your daughters room so she has a good 8 hours without breathing in tons of cat dander.

Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.

Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. If they feel that is the reason, they can give the cat a shot that will temporarily relieve the itching for about a month.

Has kitty been tested for that? Also, does your cat eat out of a plastic bowl? This can cause problems for some cats.

ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.

I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

Usually people who are allergic to cats are really allergic to the pollen that can collect on their fur. So it's more like a hay-fever kind of allergy than an allergy to the cat. I just picked up some tablets at the store, I do more diagnosing than my Vet, he mostly needs to read the same info...not much knowledge on cat allergies...and all the articles I've read state this works good for cats 70% effective although doesn't give me a dosage!!....so thanks alot... Oh the small 25 mg tablets I have and he's approx 10 lbs means I would need to split into 10ths...

Cornish/Devon Rex cats found that in 2 seconds..they have hair not fur..so most are not allergic to.

I've recently been to an allergist because of newly acquired allergies. I'm 43. I developed an allergy to cats in my 20s after having cats since I was a child. I got a new kitten and found that her saliva gave me hives. Since then I've always had a mild cat allergy. I was tested and found allergic to cats and dogs and a mild reaction to milk. Everything else was negative.

Hi Grabes, Just read your comments. Have you been to an allergist? Are you sure you are allergic to her cat and dog? Has an allergist actually told you that you are allergic to cat and dog dander. I had an allergy test done by an allergist many years ago. The allergist confirmed I have an allergy to cat dander, a very low one though. I have asthma too. This may sound strange , but my husband and I have a cat right now. This is our third cat, they've all been rescue cats.

sensitive commonly to a preservative or ingredient in dry kibble type food. grain allergies are common in cats and most cat foods are full of unnecessary grains just b/c they are 'cheap' fillers for the manufacturer, they do absolutely nothing for the diet!!! there are some 'grain free' diets on the market that may be a worth a trial. EVO, Wellness and Natures Variety are a few. cats can also suffer from environmental allergies....such as what you decide with your kitty.....
