874521 tn?1424116797 We used to use Petco's cat litter. It puts out very little dust and has no scent. Hubby told me he likes it better than any of the others. But, our small town does not have a Petco and so we had to switch to something we could get at Walmart. We use Tidy Cat's Small Spaces, but I think it might have a scent.
152660 tn?1291755571 Has anyone tried Precious Cat brand Cat Attract litter or Senior kitty litter???? I ripped up the carpet she was going on. Now I have to try something to keep her from starting on the rest of the carpet.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am wondering if I am able to let my female cat and male cat outside.my female cat is jonesing to be outside and has sometimes escaped I have got her back with treats or she will come back on her on ( she goes into a neighbors yard ) my other cat the male (brother and sister) he will go outside a bit then gets scared and runs back in. Is there a way that I can leave a window open and they can go out and come in when they please...
Avatar f tn Works wonders for me, defintely have more symptoms when the cats are due to be washed. Vaccuum a lot and groom the cat regularly outside to help keep the hair down in the house. I would double check first that there is a true allergy involved, no use going through everything if you aren't allergic and it's from something else. Also look at the cat litter you are using, some have strong perfume or a lot of silica dust which is known to affect some people.
Avatar f tn I just had a docs appt and they told me it was OK to be round cats just don't change the litter box.
Avatar m tn I concur with everyone else here. One way to find out if food allergies is a problem, though, is to try a grain free canned food. There are other brands than what I've been using myself, but what I've been giving to Akira is a brand called Wellness, which is grain free. Cats should not eat dry kibble in the first place, because they get most of their water from their food. Remember, most cat breeds originated in desert areas of the earth.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
7845323 tn?1394873413 Cats won't care as long as you still love them too.
531835 tn?1215615037 If your boyfriend is still allergic to cats then he can go in for allergy shotsImmunotherapy gradually make a person more and more resistant to the cat allergens. This is one of the most effective treatments because it treats the cause and doesn’t just hide the symptoms. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
5655568 tn?1371757104 if he is on chicken try beef or venison, chicken is also a huge culprit in allergies because it is the common base of nearly ALL pet foods. I had to switch one of mine to fish for awhile, but fish isn't good to feed long term...but it may be necessary for a trial period if you can't get him to eat something other than chicken....
Avatar n tn Hi, Calm down and just let your cat know where the food, water and litter are. I assure you that in your cat's own time he/she will begin to feel less fear and come around. I had to take in my daughter's cat into my house with 2 dogs and a cat. Her cat stayed as far away as possible for months, and when we saw her on the stairs and we reached to try to pet her she swiped at us.
Avatar f tn I think you should be fine but it's probably not a good idea to prolong your time there if the ammonia from the litter is really bad.
1006070 tn?1250399556 unfortunatly, i've been a horrible mom to miles davis. he's been through two moves already this year -- one in a car for two hours, and will be going through another one in a week in the transition of us moving out of state. i've also moved him into an apt where another cat lived -- and once he got used to that cat, my old roommate had to give her up. now, i'm staying with family until i can move into a house in a week. they've got a cat, two dogs.
1036655 tn?1254617435 thank you! i will continue using litter. Do you have any recommendation on good clumping litter. i'm using the PeeWee pine pellets kind of cat litter. it's not really good since it sometimes does have some sharp edges and that it doesn't clump at all. just that it becomes pine shavings when it's wet. i've used a japanese brand cat litter before and it's really good but it's no longer produced. the cat litter look like white pellets and clumps together very well...
Avatar f tn (like fleas) can cause allergies. Not saying your cat has fleas....just saying you might want to double check :) Good Luck.
Avatar f tn I have worked as a vet tech for many years and just took precautions when it came to handling dirty litter and cats. I also own two cats and am the only person to clean after them....again I just glove up and wash thoroughly. I also wipe down any surfaces that I may use that they have been on (even though they know better!!).
Avatar f tn He told the vet the last two meds only lasted 2-3 weeks, and asked for advice on different foods and litter. The vet said it is seldom litter that causes allergies, and we are just going to have to experiment with different foods. He also said a cone wouldn't help because cats find a way to work around them. He said we can use Benedryl. Now for the bad part, instead of giving another Depo and Dex shot, the vet gave him a Depo shot and a CONVENIA shot.
1492345 tn?1289255868 He doesn't seem to be scratching and licking like he used to... The Vet said that if he has an allergy the prednisone could possibly help. So, it seems, as of now, that it's helping :) The problem though now is the way he's acting... I moved the cat carrier from the laundry room, where one of the litter boxes is, to the "cat room". I'm trying to get him out of the litter box and back in the cat room...
Avatar m tn the main reason for licking fur off is allergies, when its the back legs and lower belly it is most likely the litter he is allergic too..if you have scented litter than buy some NONscented. maybe need to change to a natural product for awhile to see if this helps such as shredded paper or beads. could also be an allergy to the food, what are you feeding?
Avatar f tn areas of importance, such as litter boxes, food and water bowls and owners laps, favorite sleeping areas, etc.
Avatar f tn no this sure isn't normal...usually when there is a loss of fur or 'ripping' out its always due to allergies...the allergies can be inhaled, ingested or environmental. I am assuming the food and litter has remained unchanged. that makes me think its either something in the house your kitty is reacting too....was there a product used to clean the carpets..for instance. Or fleas? flea allergy can also cause this to happen. copy the link below for more info and photos..
1474611 tn?1416632958 hi this is so very common anymore....and almost ALL the time is due to food allergies, mainly grains in their food.(cheap additives). is your kitty fed dry food? these are the worst for allergies. the best possible advice I can give you is to change to a CANNED food with NO grains...kitty's don't like this very much b/c of course like us they love carbs...so its like going from french fries to broccoli, so you can't do it over night.
1006070 tn?1250399556 ve also moved him into an apartment where another cat lived -- and once he got used to that cat, and even had a little crush on her, my roommate had to give her up. now, i'm staying with some family until i can move into a rental house in a few weeks. they've got a cat, two dogs. i've been keeping him in my room because he doesnt really like dogs, but he and the cat have met quite often, because when i move again .. owen and his mom are coming too.
Avatar f tn I do have a question already and it has to do with having a cat. We got a cat about 3 weeks ago. I have heard that it is not good to have a cat when you are trying to conceive. Are there any of you out there that have a cat? Do I need to have the cat temporarily stay with my in-laws? Should I just not be in contact with the litter? I want to make sure that I do the right thing for me and the baby if I can get pregnant. Looking forward to meeting you all. Have a great day!
1590008 tn?1297040041 d like more info on this problem, click on the highlighted word ALLERGIES to further the discussion of what I mentioned to you.....IBD stands for irritable bowel disease, but I don't think this is what your kitty has hers appears to be more of a skin related issue and wide spread thats why I'm thinking allergies?...just read all the site and see what you think, can also be inhaled allergies associated with the new apartment.....
Avatar n tn I don't know what the discharge is or what it means. I had to try a few different kinds of cat foods before I found one that my cat likes that she isn't allergic to. My cat is allergic to grains.
Avatar m tn The vet also ran an allergy test, but the things that our cat is allergic to were seasonal allergies which makes me doubt that they are the cause since he has been licking all year long. Our vet does not seem to have any clue, and I feel horrible since our cat seems so unhappy. Does anyone have any advice? We are really at a loss!
Avatar m tn Get cat vitamins maybe? A flea collar? When you bathed her did you use animal shampoo? She may have got worse if it wasn't. Get her a new bed or one of those cat igloos so she has a safe secure and hopefully her own clean place to relax. Put it up high so the dogs don't wreck that also. Take her to the vet when you can! Good luck.
