Avatar m tn I had a similar experience today with my cat--I brought home the leaves of an elderberry tree (to identify them) and my cat immediately tried to bite and scratch his way into my pocket to try to get at them, and started scratching me when I took them away. Google gives results for a handful of similar anecdotes but I found very little authoritative information. I thought this article was interesting, though: http://www.messybeast.com/catnip-valerian.

1232362 tn?1333135406 All you need is a flat enough pot that you can allow Tweety to crawl on if she wants to, or one of the cheap plastic pots that nurseries sell their ready to plant flowers and such in. In fact, you can save money by buying live cat nip at a nursery instead of the pet store. Then, just look for a place you can buy whole wheat berries or whole barley berries (seeds). Since it doesn't take much to plant the stuff for your pets, a little bit goes a long way.
746512 tn?1388807580 Alright, need some input or personal experience. This is the three year in a row that my allergies/asthma (or non-asthma who knows) is getting worse from middle of november into december. This can't be due to the cats since I am down one cat now and I have NO ALLERGIES in the spring with increased shedding. It is worse when I go outside and if I'm in and out at work or if it's busy and the door is constantly opened and closed I also have worsening symptoms.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Avatar f tn Works wonders for me, defintely have more symptoms when the cats are due to be washed. Vaccuum a lot and groom the cat regularly outside to help keep the hair down in the house. I would double check first that there is a true allergy involved, no use going through everything if you aren't allergic and it's from something else. Also look at the cat litter you are using, some have strong perfume or a lot of silica dust which is known to affect some people.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!

Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar f tn My mum is allergic to cats, what can i do to my cat to help her with her allergies??
Avatar m tn t put any chemicals in the water designed to give the flowers long life in the vase. (The florist sometimes sends little packets to put in the water. You don't want your cat to drink those.) I guess it also goes without saying, it's OK (if the water is clean and) if the cat does not knock the vase over.
Avatar n tn You want to make sure that your kitty continues to eat, even if you have to force feed him after a few days, because cats who don't eat for a prolonged period of time can develop feline hepatic lipidosis, or fatty liver disease. While this is more common in overweight cats, it can affect any cat who goes for a long time without eating.

410475 tn?1262942367 In my opinion (and others) yes, they're to old. De clawing is an amputation, the human equivalent is losing the finger at the first knuckle. With older cats, it's a huge psychological change. The cat will likely become neurotic and hostile. There is a product called "soft claws", there's a post on here about it. It involves gluing a plastic sheathe onto the claws so they can't do damage but can still get about.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar f tn Here’s the kicker, he has lots of allergies and is highly allergic to cats... and he has a cat. He used to suffer when anywhere near cats but for some reason they picked up a stray cat and wouldn’t you know it, ever since then these symptoms started and have been getting worse. My theory is that the constant assault of the cat dander is causing an autoimmune issue which is making his glands swollen which in turn are pushing on the nerves in his should which go into his arms. Is this possible?
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
506791 tn?1439842983 I love the new picture. She is being more and more like a regular kitty, which is wonderful considering her background. I love how from this perspective the darker portion of her fur almost resembles that of a cat shaped silhouette. Only the ears would be missing in the silhouette. I once did see a picture of a white cat with a cat shaped silhouette that has proven to be a popular picture circulating online.
976897 tn?1379167602 Oh you got that all exactly right Ed....those boys will travel along way for a night out on the town...where the girls wait to be courted!! flowers and a mouse maybe???
Avatar n tn The last two days I visited two humane adoption society places to adopt a kitten to keep my older cat company. Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar m tn I used to have a cat allergy and it was severe. Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??
Avatar f tn I am 7 weeks and have either a cold or allergies, not sure which. Is it safe to use cough drops?
7165624 tn?1395647767 Im severely allergic to my cat, i know awful, and NO i will NOT give him up he is my first baby and will be forever, but i was told zyrtec D and benadryl.
Avatar m tn Hi allergenic, I just finished reading your comments. You said you were holding a cat the other day, stroking and petting the cat. You also stated you had no asthma. Are you aware that male cats have more dander than female cats. I know this because I had allergies too to several different things. I 'd like to say that your allergies are getting better, but I doubt it. I'm guessing you've had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies.
Avatar f tn I have two cats, female and male, and the male boy (approximately 1-1/2 years old) does not like to eat cat food. He will eat it only if he's starving. But he loves to eat fresh basil, rose petals, pansys, and cold boiled shrimp! The cats are strictly indoor cats and he discovered these morsels when I accidently dropped some basil, rose petals and a pansy. The shrimp comes naturally except he will not eat any cat food flavored with fish.
Avatar n tn I don't know what the discharge is or what it means. I had to try a few different kinds of cat foods before I found one that my cat likes that she isn't allergic to. My cat is allergic to grains.
675347 tn?1365460645 There is an article in The Daily Mail March 8th (UK) which warns about Lilies, that they are deadly for cats, and even if the cat just brushes against the flowers, gets pollen on its fur, then licks the fur, that can cause severe illness, and death. It affects their kidneys. Many common lilies have this toxin: TIGER LILIES RUBRUM LILY EASTER LILY JAPANESE LILY and probably other varieties. I thought I'd post this warning. Take care kitties!
