Avatar n tn she lives with multiple cats and lots of other types of pets.we do not give her flea medioson because she is an indoor cat. 1 cat in our house is an out door cat, the rest arn't.( for the past couple months she has also been peeing all around my house) please help me!
1178508 tn?1266793916 Once the allergic reaction occurs, continued licking and secondary infection can then perpetuate skin inflammation even after all the fleas have been killed, and so I recommend taking your cat to your veterinarian for examination and medications to treat secondary infection and reduce itching/licking. If his symptoms persist or recur, then other possible allergic skin diseases such as food allergy or pollen/dust allergies may be the cause.
372900 tn?1315512302 t bite himself at all and we make sure our dogs get their monthly flea medicine every single month. The medicine she got when we first got her was for kennel cough (oral for the sneezing, eye for her runny eyes and nose for her runny nose). I'm sorry I keep posting but these are things I also need to remember to tell the vet when we go on Friday.
372900 tn?1315512302 I have to call the vet in the morning because he gave me flea medicine for cats that weigh 9.1lbs-18lbs. Our cat is only 7 lbs. The girl that weighed her forgot to subtract the weight of the cat carrier. The vet didn't know that. :-/ Anyone know if there may be any problems related to the flea medicine seeing as it's made for heavier cats?
Avatar n tn I don't know what the discharge is or what it means. I had to try a few different kinds of cat foods before I found one that my cat likes that she isn't allergic to. My cat is allergic to grains.
485351 tn?1208647497 It may be allergies to food or fleas, or other allergy. You don't have to see the flea that affected your cat since one flea bite can causing itching for at least a month if the cat flea allergy dermatitis; and the flea could be brought in on clothes, etc. There are some things that you can try at home, but, if they are not effective I encourage you to take her to the vet no matter how far away. I would switch her food to a hypo-allergenic, grain-free, novel protein, CANNED diet.
Avatar n tn My best results when dealing with a cat and fleas have been to put Frontline (or sometimes Revolution, as my vet recommends it) on the cat, and to comb the cat with a flea comb every night (these are fine-toothed combs that the fleas get trapped in, and you then drown the fleas). The cat pulls any fleas out of the environment because her body is warm, and I physically remove the fleas from the cat or they die because of the Frontline.
Avatar f tn my cat has been to the vet and I've been told she has a flea bite and flea dirt allergy. I use Advocate on her which is supposed to last 4 weeks, after 2 weeks she starts to get sores around her neck (she cant wear a collar because of this) she itches and nibbles alot. If left alone at this point the sores on her neck become large raw and need antibiotics, she'll get little sores on her back above her tail, which she bites so her fur gets shortened and turns straw like.
Avatar f tn can humans develope asthma from severe reaction to many flea bites. my cat developed asthma from them.
Avatar n tn I viewed the photos and it looks like a eosinophilic granuloma complex or eosinophilic plaque. These are secondary to allergies. Her continued licking in that area has compounded the problem by causing a secondary bacterial skin infection. She really should be seen by a vet for diagnosis and treatment, and to releave her syptoms which are causing her discomfort. Many skin diseases resemble each other and it may be necessary to have a biopsy performed by your vet for a definitive diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Hi Debra; We'd need more information as there's a number of things that could be. It could be a nervous disorder, a flea issue, ear mites, etc... A bit more information could help point us in the right direction. Don't forget, we also have an excellent "Expert Forum" where you can inquire for expert advice.
2109733 tn?1334130838 can also be due to food allergies(grains) environmental allergies (sprays etc.) flea bite dermatitis, and possibly even hyperthyroidism when its so extensive...best to get kitty a good Vet exam and some bloodwork done, poor little guy sounds like he is really suffering..
Avatar n tn First thing that comes to mind is she may have a flea allergy. The lumps and the weight loss are very concerning, yes. I think you simply must find a way to take kitty to the vet. See if they will kindly take pymts. The problem is obviously something immune to antibiotics. When we first got our kitty, we tried antibiotics first, but they didn't help and the reason for that is our cat had a fungal infection which does not respond to antibiotics.
Avatar f tn If you go to Wikipedia you can find images on the life cycle of the flea and what the larve look like, what the eggs look like and what the fleas look like. All 3 have to be eradicated from the house and the kit must continue to receive flea medication during this time. If your kit is also an outdoor cat and indoor cat, you may have to rethink about letting her outside where other animals have active fleas...
Avatar f tn I agree with Savas, but would like to add the possibility of food allergies. How long has your kitty had skin problems? And, do all of your kitties have the same problems? And, last but not least, have you switched food and what is their diet?
Avatar f tn I use indorex flea spray in my home every 10month (it lasts 12month) and my cats are indoor cats. I read on here about allergies to fleas but she has had fleas before (when we got her) and she did not have a reaction then. She's been completely clean for over a year now so I'm pretty sure it's not fleas. I've also seen ringworm on a cat and it's not this either. I'm worried about her as she has been casting A LOT lately and wonder if it could be a skin condition.....
Avatar m tn Hey guys I have a pug and a dsh cat both around 4 years old. About 2 months ago we found out our dog had fleas we counted up to 4 over the course of 3 days so we immediately gave him a flea bath (probably should have steered clear) and followed up by buying them frontline plus. They seem to be flealess since. Meaning I check often and haven't seen any flea dirt or actual fleas on either of them. The problem im having now is they both seem to be scratching around their face area.
Avatar f tn kitty does NOT have to have fleas on her. IF SHE WAS EVER BIT BY A FLEA SHE COULD HAVE FLEA BITE DERMATITIS .....or an allergy to fleas. but yes she could also have an allergy to an ingredient in the flea treatment.... telling him NO, will only stop the action when you are around, its NOT solving the problem is it, and if kitty starts to become STRESSED out in your presence that will only make the problem worse.....he can't help himself, this itch is making him very uncomfortable.
Avatar f tn First for a little back story... I have four cats (two males, two females, all different ages, strictly indoor only, declawed front and rear, and all have consumed the same food for life). Until last year, I never routinely put topical flea medication on the cats because we have never had problems with fleas. About a year ago, all my cats went to stay with my mother while I was out of town. My mother has four cats of her own, and has kept all the cats in the past.
Avatar f tn no this sure isn't normal...usually when there is a loss of fur or 'ripping' out its always due to allergies...the allergies can be inhaled, ingested or environmental. I am assuming the food and litter has remained unchanged. that makes me think its either something in the house your kitty is reacting too....was there a product used to clean the carpets..for instance. Or fleas? flea allergy can also cause this to happen. copy the link below for more info and photos..
1474611 tn?1416632958 hi this is so very common anymore....and almost ALL the time is due to food allergies, mainly grains in their food.(cheap additives). is your kitty fed dry food? these are the worst for allergies. the best possible advice I can give you is to change to a CANNED food with NO grains...kitty's don't like this very much b/c of course like us they love carbs...so its like going from french fries to broccoli, so you can't do it over night.
Avatar f tn ve continually given her Advantage topical flea medicine every three weeks. I think the mild winter and the early spring have not helped matters. She keeps itching and licking. What else can I do for her. The other dog has fleas too, but she doesn't excessively itch and lick. Help!
Avatar m tn Flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) is an intensely itchy allergic reaction to flea saliva that can be triggered by a single flea bite! You may never see a flea or flea dirt on your pet (though daily flea-combing is never a bad idea!), and many people are quite confused as to how their flea-less pet can have such a severe reaction. If you live in an area where fleas are present (which includes most of the U.S.
