It is not uncommon for a person with asthma, and grass and cat allergy to develop allergies to other organic or inorganic substances over time. It is also possible that your are inadvertently having exposure to cat dander. That a number of your symptoms are limited to your face (lips, the skin around lips and eyes) there is a possibility that these reactions are not secondary to systemic allergy but are instead a form of contact dermatitis.
my eyes have been swollen now for 6 months, particularly the area under my eye. they are constantly tearing up, they are also red. they feel grainy on the inside and just generally uncomfortable. i have been put on prednisone 3 times now, each time i clear up. within days of finishing the prednisone, it's back. cat scan was normal, environmental allergy tests were normal. i'm at a loss. at this point, i'm not sleeping well because i wake up worrying about it.
9 months ago I moved to Portland, OR. It's known for allergies and though I'd never had them before, noticed them almost instantly - sneezing, swollen & watery eyes in the morning. They seemed to get better for a while and then in Jan they got terrible - only this time it was only my eyes. They were watery and moderately red, but most noticeably they were swollen every morning, particularly the lower lid, under my eye.
My nose is always blocked, like my sinuses are blocked, the inside of my nose is always moist, I cough a fair bit and (TMI sorry) I cough up clear gel like mucous. One side of my throat is always swollen and I have a swollen gland on the same side under my ear lobe which my doctor said is a sentinel gland. My throat is always sensitive and I also have crimson redness on the areas just in front of my tonsils.
Anyway, I still wake up every morning with swollen eyes. They have gotten much better than it was 2 years ago, but they're still swollen. I have a lot of eyebags (allergic shiners) and it makes me so insecure that I wear glasses everyday to cover them! Since I am a 15 year old girl who goes to school, in the morning I don't have enough time to spare 15 minutes for cucumber on my eyes or anything.
Consider not giving any beef to the cat, too, because I've been reading that beef can be allergenic for cats with allergies. As with people with chronic health conditions, don't give your cat pork. One way to look at it is this: None of the healthy cat food brands use pork.
I have the same issues as everyone else. Itchy, swollen lips with a rash often accompanied by swollen eyes. I visited the dermatologist twice this week. The first time, he thought it was a peanut allergy, so I was put on anithistimines; however, while on antihistimines I developed swollen eyes and lips! Upon visiting the doctor again, I was prescribed a topical ointment for the lip area. The doc said that this condition is tricky to diagnose.
During the winter and summer I feel fine. I also notice that my sinuses over my eyes are swollen during this time. My head feels like it is stuffed with cotton, and I have pressure headaches, but my nose is clear with only occasional sneezing. I had a CAT scan of my sinuses last year, and it showed only minimum inflamation. I fell there has to be some connection with the anxiety and allergies. I am not taking any medication except for an occasional Advil Cold and Sinus.
We have tried dieting with certain food groups to check for food allergies and his condition did not change, he is an outdoor cat and we have also tried keeping him in for a month + and yet again no change to his condition. We've tried bathing him with hypoallergenic shampoos and yet again, no result. Please if you have any idea of how or what we could use to potentially help his condition let me know. It would be much appreciated.
Has your kitty been tested for Cryptococcus? Our cat had this and it started out looking like a big bump in between her eyes. I just looked up cryptococcus in cats and the first site I went to said "some studies have shown Siamese cats may be slightly more suseptable." I see your girl has already been on Fluconizole which is what Jade was treated with, but we had to give her a pill twice a day for 4mos. It took a very long time to see improvement.
About 2 weeks ago, my eyes started itching severely and I just assumed it was pollen allergies. Then one morning I woke up with my eyes swollen shut and red. I used a washcloth compress to get the swelling down and the eyes continued to be red and swollen and itchy and I noticed little blisters kind of like what I get when I wear cheap jewelry and get a chemical reaction from the metal. I have tried some Zatidor eyedrops-antihistime twice daily.
1) I am currently taking allergy shots for dust mite, cat & pollen allergies & am close to reaching my mainetnance dose. I also take nasonex, asterlin, clarinex and mucinex & decongestants as needed. Earlier this year I was on predisone & antibiotics for a sinus infection, I feel better now than I have felt in a year (although it took anothe 2-3 weeks after stopping prednisone & antibiotics to feel better so not sure if these were the cause or not).
It started when we moved into a house where the landlady had a cat, she moved out, and my husband's father gave us a long haired cat, my symptoms began then, when I was pregnant we gave the cat back to his father because of risks with litter trays and unborn baby, I felt great. In April however hubby's dad brought the cat back saying he didn't want her anymore. I have progressively felt ill since. My question is:- Can all of this be an allergic reaction, i.e. an airborne allergy?
The dizziness resembled being carsick, with lightheadedness and occasional moments of nausea and feeling faint (but I never passed out). I had a CAT scan and blood work twice, and so far no diagnosis for the dizziness/fatigue. It got better for a few weeks but last week I began to have dizzy spells again, this time accompanied by maxillary sinus pressure. I had just switched allergy medications, from Nasonex to generic Flonase, right at the time my symptoms returned.
I would take him to a different allergist! My 4 year old daughter has allergies to dairy, peanut and egg. Hives, swollen eyes are the symptoms we see on the outside. The same thing happens on the inside. Since we are all unique, the allergies, although may be similar in symptoms to others with allergies, I am sure can have a somewhat different effect and symptoms on each affected individual with allergies.
Finally one day my eyes got swollen and completely red- this is where the craziness began. Using OTC 1%cortisone around the eyes is dangerous. Which I mistakenly had been! Eczema around eyelids like others have said is caused by an allergen. This is where you have to become a detective and slowly change products until you find the culprit. I stopped all makeup around eyes and elsewhere. After swelling and redness went down (took a few days) I slowly reintroduced new makeup.
It is making me suicidal, and caused my depression. I wake up every morning with swollen eyes, swollen face, numb lips, lots of eye bags, numb fingers, feeling like I didn't get enough sleep, and sometimes chest tightness. When I am outside, I can't open my eyes and it hurts because my allergies are that bad. I feel like crap every single day... Here are some steps I have already tried bur didnt 100%work : -I'm currently taking allergy shots and its been 4 months.
2 years ago I moved back to California and we got a second Siberian cat. Moving back to California completely removed by nasal allergies (no more sneezing and sniffles) but getting the second Siberian seems to have given me a strange allergic reaction. I now have swollen red upper and lower eyelids.

Beginning last Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, both of my eyes became horribly bloodshot, swollen, and painful. I went to an immediate care center on Friday...they weren't sure whether it was pink eye or an allergic reaction. They gave me eye drops (anti-biotic). I used them...they got the red out...but the pain persisted as well as the swelling. Saw my PCP on Monday, she referred me to an Opthamologist. He wasnt' sure what it is either. He gave me stronger eyedrops to take.
Hi, I have tons of allergies, but, the only thing that ever caused the swollen lip thing with me was antibiotics. Penicillan and cephalexin can cause that, even delayed. It takes months sometimes to get it out of your system.
Giving Lysine (the amino acid) would help for a suspected Herpes infection, and the amino acid is very safe since it classified as a food component. Your cat probably has food allergies and/or environmental allergies since he has ear polyps. Rabbit and green pea would be the best food to try for a food trial. A low dose of prednisolone would also help.
but certain parts became itchy and red- under toes, sides of feet, a little on top- no ankle swelling or redness. These itchy red areas become hard and painful to walk, the outbreaks last about 24-48 hours. The first time this to both feet and I passed it off to wearing new and cheap high heals for over 13 hours the day before (I teach). That day I also had some trouble with a family member who was staying with me- so I felt stress may have been a contributor?
My doc sent me to an EYE EARS NOSE AND THROAT doc, I asked him if maybe the dead tooth could be causing the Thrush and swollen tongue, he said NO, IT'S PROBABLY NERVES OR ALLERGIES. I did a swab of my tongue and a swab of my mucus from down in my throat, I was told by his receptionist that the tests came back looking fairly normal. I went back to my doc again after he told me that my BILE level was high in my blood test.
I have had symptoms of fullness in the throat for about 11 years, which I think is swollen lymph nodes. Had a full body cat scan which shows no abnormal nodes but my armpits are really woleen now. I realize that this could be a precursor to lymphoma but I have not heard CFIDS mentioned in here at all. I think that many have CFIDS and because its a new "syndrome" and there is no real way to diagnose it, that many doctors will not recognize it as legitimate. www.cfids.
Saw 2 ENTs before finally being referred to an allergy specialist and had the testing done- found dust, pollenn, cat etcs allergies. I have horrible face/neck pain, headaches and a feeling of my throat being constantly clogged up. It has made me so down I keep crying and feels like its taking over my life. Im meant to be marrying next year and should be the happiest ive ever been, but instead of that some days i feel like giving up. I don't want to live like this.
I too, suffer from myriad food allergies, amongst other things.
A few days ago, the lymph node behind my left jaw became swollen and barely bothersome. I had an appointment with my primary doctor for other reasons so I mentioned it to him. Initially he suspected cat scratch fever but I have not been scratched or bitten so he put me on antibiotics. This was on Tuesday. Since starting the antibiotics the swelling has gotten worse (visually obvious) and the pain has increased considerably.
I recently got the red bumps around my eyes (in October). My eyes were swollen shut and the bridge of my nose between my eyes was swollen so badly that I looked like a monster (could not wear my eye glasses because my face was too swollen). I was sent to a Endocrinologist and a Rheumotologist. They ran a battery of tests, perscribed a regimne of steroids and powerful antibotics. The swelling and bumps cleared up and all was well until two days ago (its back).
