Avatar f tn After many years of suffering with allergies (cat, dogs, feathers, trees, grasses, dust and dust mites) I got tested in January and began taking allergy shots in February. I suffered many years of poor sleep and was treated for depression and anxiety but the medicines did not really do anything. Finally, I realized they my severe allergies were my underlying issues, after being testing and some allergen were a 4+.
1116122 tn?1268496794 I have no intention of getting rid of my cat, however, since this is the best my allergies have been around pets in years. Other than Zyrtec, are there allergy shots covered by insurance that I could take, or other allergy medications that are prescription? My insurance company stopped covering Allegra, which was perfect (bummer). Thanks for your help in advance.
440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
Avatar m tn ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.
Avatar m tn I've developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
Avatar f tn My dog had her blood work tested for allergies and is currently having shots now for almost a year. Her stomach is breaking out so bad now and her skin on her stomach has got so thin from all the Cortizone sprays, injections etc.. Our vet has takin her off all Cortizone do to skin thinning out. Do you know of any other product we can use instead of Cortizone. "Jersey" our dog is always licking and not resting much because of this.
Avatar n tn Some allergen exposure control methods are to clean very well daily (vacuum, sweep, dust), keep the cat out of your bedroom, wash your hands after playing with the cat, and shower before bed. If you can train the cat to tolerate a bath that would be beneficial as well. Otherwise you could try wiping its coat with a damp cloth regulary. There are ways to live with pet allergies and keep the pet.
118225 tn?1278654940 I was just curious if there was a long term relief for cat allergies. I have heard many people say there is a simple shot to take them away...but wonder if this is true, and how often the shot would be needed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Hi, My doctor is (strongly) recommending that I get allergy shots (Rush immunotherapy). I have allergies and allergic asthma...I sorta take a lot of medication to control both the allergies and asthma. From the information my doctor gave me, it seems like a good idea...decrease medication usage and symptoms, keep the cat, etc. I've looked up allergy shots on the Internet and it seems like all I see is how people have had bad reactions to the injections.
Avatar n tn From the success I've had with allergy shots and allerpet-c (cat allergy), I would say it is ok. BUT ... remember if you get a dog soon, it took me 8-12 months to get 95% relief from my allergies. This means, you will spend at least that much time with allergy symptoms, on antihistamines (which stoppped working for me) and pretty much miserable. There MAY be certain breeds that are lower allergen, this is only because the dog doesn't shed and thus there is less hair floating around.
875426 tn?1325528416 I've intermittantly gotten itchy hives on my arms and they seem to initially get set off after being out of doors. I recently found out I'm allergic to a lot of things. I'm moderately allergic to our beloved indoor cat and I'm allergic to some common trees that grow around here, some weeds and grasses and more. The doctor wanted to do allergy shots, but I'm afraid, because I feel I can't take antihistamines, etc.
Avatar m tn I would start shots and maybe look into a good ENT and get Cat scan done to see if you have issues with mucos membranes. Good luck!
7845323 tn?1394873413 Cats won't care as long as you still love them too.
Avatar n tn Yes allergies can also bring on the symptoms you are describing. If you are finding your seasonal allergies rather bothersome, then perhaps you should consider allergy shots as a part of your treatment plan. It is an excellent way to desensitize your immune system and as a result you can experience little or no symptoms. About 75% of people get relief from allergy shots. I found it worked excellent on my daughter's airborn allergies.
168348 tn?1379357075 Any thoughts on whether they really are hypoallergenic for those humans with cat allergies?
Avatar f tn I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else. Thanks.

Avatar n tn The fat lip also is commonly secondarily infected with bacteria, so I would recommend a 2-3 week course of antibiotics if not already done. The three types of allergies are parasite (fleas, mites), food allergy, and pollen/dust allergies. If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely.
Avatar m tn I am very frazzled! I have been at war with allergies my whole life. It was not until my teens that I started to develop a horrible rash that would appear with bad allergies. I was tested when i was younger (9 yr or younger) and it was decided that I was allergic to trees, pollen, mold, animal dander, dust, grass etc. I got my shots for many years and was stopped. I was retested right before i got pregnant bc i was struggling with the rash and allergies bad.
Avatar f tn I have a 7-year-old cat that I adopted when she was about 2. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations, lives mostly indoors but usually goes out for a few hours every day, and is treated monthly with Advantage. About 2 years ago, she started developing a skin issue. She gets scabs around her eyes, under her chin, and sometimes on her back and sides. Sometimes the skin around her anus becomes red and scabby and loses hair.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.
Avatar f tn Hi. My 4-year-old has had year round nasal allergies and sinus infections since last year. His physician referred him to an allergist who did tested him today (***** test). If the diluent control resulted in a 5 x 5 mm, how much larger would the other wheals for each allergen site have to be to be considered a definitely positive reaction? The nurse told me anything larger than the 5 x 5 mm is positive. (I thought it had to be at least 3 mm larger than the control, so I am confused).
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
