cat allergies or a cold

so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?

It seems like i start feeling better with morning sickness and something else hits! Im not sure if i have allergies or a really bad cold . Ive tried allergy meds and cold meds and nothing helps ! Puffs tissues with vicks and lotion are my best friend right now.

Last night I had some allergy issues. This is not unusual because I have a cat that I'm allergic to. Anyway, my eyes got all itchy and watery like they do. I put a cold pack on it for a few minutes then took my allergy medicine and went to bed like I've done many times. When I woke up this morning the eye is still more red than normal, it's watery, and it still feels puffy. I know it's not night allergy since the cat doesn't come in the bedroom.

Hi KCLover, Your Boyfriends cold was HIS. Your cat probably has allergies or an Upper Respiratory Infection (cat cold). Now if you cat has the herpes virus and this URI is one of the symptoms, your older cat can catch it from her. Although if they have been together for sometime they are both immune or both infected already. Theses URI will happen several times a year.

Not sure if I have caught a lil cold or have allergies cause the Chicago weather Change.but I'm a bit nervous because can you actually get a cold while prego and be fine? My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with my first child and have been living with my partners family. His mom rescued a stray cat about 3 months ago even though there was a possibility that the cat could harm me or my baby. Pregnant women aren't suppose to come in contact with cat urine because it can affect an unborn child. I just got a Siamese cat and ever since i've gotten her i've had headaches. sometimes i forget about them then they come back every so often, no other symptoms. I would like to know if keeping her around getting these random headaches every so often is dangerous for me in the long run.. or if I can stand the symptoms then I can keep her around... is this a problem that will become serious or can I just keep her around? Sniffles, I think you got that name regarding the allergies eh? First off, if your friend don't mind, make sure the cats can be brushed. You might or might not know this, but it's not the hair that we are allergic to, it's the cat's saliva. They clean themselves with the saliva and then it gets on the hair. So it's not just the cat/s, it's anything the cat licks or gets the hair after it cleans itself on. Brushing the cat before and after visits will help.

It's interesting .. my daughter and son who are allergic to some cats are not allergic to others .. and these are garden mix variety tabby's, etc.! Sometimes rescue groups will allow a few weeks' trial vs. not placing a cat in a good home .. they'll take the cat back if there's an allergy. But, of coruse, if your allergy is severe you don't want to take a chance.

So this all started when my 3 year old got a cold...the a few days later we got a kitten...She went into this heavy breathing then to neck retractions untill we went to the doctor..They gave her a nebulizer treatment. Still no sucess so we went to the ER and was there for 8 hours doing breathing treatments. They gave us an inhaler and steriods. This freaked me out! I mean this just came out of no where!! We went to a allergy specialist and found that she is highly allergic to cats and dust.

How much of a chance will my little girl be allergic to cats? I'm kinda worried because we have a cat (he's family not just a cat) and I don't want her to be allergic, neither my boyfriend and I are allergic, and no one in my family is either.

thanks for your reply.. but my main concern is why can't I breathe?? would a cold do this? would my cat allergies do this? did my asthma come back after 10 yrs because I smoked too much?

I went to rite aid and asked the pharmacist what I can take with my symptoms and she said Clariton. so I bought it and have had the biggest headache all day. Will that work for a cold though? I need quick relief!! Anything else I can take? People always assume to drink and eat warm things but my throat LOVES slurpees, that's normal right?

Over the years ive gotten used to it and so have my surroundings when i go over to peoples houses they try to turn off their a/c or offer a blanket etc. , ive learned to keep a small blanket with me at all times and usually within 10 minutes of wrapping myself with it the rash disappears. ok but my biggest problem with this dumb rash is EXERCISING!!

I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

But if the symptoms do not improve or worsen then pls consult a dermatologist a course of antibiotics and a jab of steroid may be needed to stop the inflammation. Take care and God bless.

at the hospital, they took a regular cat scan, and told me my sinuses were filled with fluid and my eustation tube in my right was filled, and that the fluid looks as if it was in there for a long time, they went over a lot of questions with me, and they said a very long dose of antibiotics would eventually shrink the swelling and then clear the tubes...well its been almost 2 years now and i havent had vertigo in over a year, cause my right ear wont open..
