cat-allergies

Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar f tn Sniffles, I think you got that name regarding the allergies eh? First off, if your friend don't mind, make sure the cats can be brushed. You might or might not know this, but it's not the hair that we are allergic to, it's the cat's saliva. They clean themselves with the saliva and then it gets on the hair. So it's not just the cat/s, it's anything the cat licks or gets the hair after it cleans itself on. Brushing the cat before and after visits will help.

Avatar n tn Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar f tn Personally I wouldnt have any of my pets let near my baby because theyre new to the world and it can cause early on allergies and or asthma. But if you want to try it out, I would just keep an eye on the cats when they get close to baby and do my best to teach them that baby isnt a toy or another animal.
Avatar n tn Hi, from your description, it sounds like an abscess. Is your cat indoor/outdoor or does he get into fights with other cats? If there's no possible way that he's getting into fights with other cats, then I'd bring him into the vets-especially if that place has been there for 2 wks or more.
Avatar n tn However, you can become allergic to them years after, I had my one cat for 10 years before any allergies and 15 years before I developed asthma. If you do get one, try to keep it out of your daughters room so she has a good 8 hours without breathing in tons of cat dander.
Avatar m tn t agree with your Vet, even if it is boils......cats and their food allergies show up as skin erruptions of some sort. and to me this is an easy fix if this is whats wrong, easy and cheap...no medictions, just try feeding a new canned food...preferably with NO carbs b/c many cats have allergies to carbs. for a list of carb free canned diets check out the site I gave above...on the right hand side of her column...BEST COMMERCIAL CANNED FOODS.
Avatar m tn t know why that is impacting his life, but it sounds like the cat has anxiety. Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. If they feel that is the reason, they can give the cat a shot that will temporarily relieve the itching for about a month.
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
Avatar f tn When would they do allergy tests on baby? I have a kitty and was just thinking about what if she is allergic??
Avatar f tn Usually people who are allergic to cats are really allergic to the pollen that can collect on their fur. So it's more like a hay-fever kind of allergy than an allergy to the cat. If you are itching because you work with someone who has cats...maybe it's the perfume she is wearing. I noticed you joined the cat forum, so welcome.
440120 tn?1211724496 I've recently been to an allergist because of newly acquired allergies. I'm 43. I developed an allergy to cats in my 20s after having cats since I was a child. I got a new kitten and found that her saliva gave me hives. Since then I've always had a mild cat allergy. I was tested and found allergic to cats and dogs and a mild reaction to milk. Everything else was negative.

Avatar n tn I'm so confused! My cat has allergies, and the vet has given her steroids, but that only helps for a little bit and I don't want to keep giving her that. I got out a healthy alternative book for cats and it says to give her garlic, and for her to breathe eucalyptus oil. I looked online at other sources which say garlic and eucalyptus oil are toxic to cats. I don't know what to do! I don't want to kill my cat, but she needs some relief! How do I know whats the truth? Help please!!
Avatar m tn ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.
Avatar f tn My husband hit 40 and got allergies to grass, horses, cats and tree pollen. He had never had allergies before. The allergist told him it's pretty common for one's reactions to things like that to change in the course of one's life.
5347058 tn?1381188426 sensitive commonly to a preservative or ingredient in dry kibble type food. grain allergies are common in cats and most cat foods are full of unnecessary grains just b/c they are 'cheap' fillers for the manufacturer, they do absolutely nothing for the diet!!! there are some 'grain free' diets on the market that may be a worth a trial. EVO, Wellness and Natures Variety are a few. cats can also suffer from environmental allergies....such as what you decide with your kitty.....
Avatar m tn Hi Grabes, Just read your comments. Have you been to an allergist? Are you sure you are allergic to her cat and dog? Has an allergist actually told you that you are allergic to cat and dog dander. I had an allergy test done by an allergist many years ago. The allergist confirmed I have an allergy to cat dander, a very low one though. I have asthma too. This may sound strange , but my husband and I have a cat right now. This is our third cat, they've all been rescue cats.
Avatar n tn He also coughs just as much at school where there is no animals. I know nothing about allergies so hoping someone could tell me IF it was the cats how long would my son still have the coughing once he was away from the cats? I would think once he was away from the cats his cough would improve within hours if he was allergic?
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.
3170462 tn?1344717552 t mean to sound obtuse, but a specialist of what? Cats? Allergies? Cat allergies? Do these specialists have a title or a specific field of study that I can begin searching for one by?
Avatar f tn I use indorex flea spray in my home every 10month (it lasts 12month) and my cats are indoor cats. I read on here about allergies to fleas but she has had fleas before (when we got her) and she did not have a reaction then. She's been completely clean for over a year now so I'm pretty sure it's not fleas. I've also seen ringworm on a cat and it's not this either. I'm worried about her as she has been casting A LOT lately and wonder if it could be a skin condition.....
1756384 tn?1312562154 m not real up on allergies although I know I do have some myself to my cats...mainly for me its sinus congestion, itchy eyes/ears/nose that sort of thing, I'v just started using aerius with some relief. good luck to you hon, I sure hope you don't have to get rid of the cats....remember even if you do the dander will be everywhere in your home anyway so may not be the entire relief you are looking for. please keep us posted and know how your doing. welcome to our forum... http://www.
