Common Questions and Answers about Cat allergies medication

cat-allergies

Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
Avatar m tn Did your girlfriend recently start using a different shampoo for the cat? Different flea/tick medication or collar? Did the cat recently go on any medication for anything? (it's not likely, but if the cat recently started taking a medication and you're allergic to that medication, perhaps being around or petting the cat cause some of that med to get into YOUR system causing your allergic reaction). Are you 100% it's teh cat you are reacting to?
Avatar m tn ll give you whatever medication to help and try to keep your cat away from where you sleep in the meantime. I have a dog and I know that's hard but that is supposed to be helpful. Good luck!

Avatar f tn Some vets will recommend benadryl to cats with allergies. Usually, those allergies are presented by a cat scratching, not a swollen throat and paw. Talk to the vet first. You need not make an apointment. Call the vet and ask him if 1 ml one or twice a day is good for her. Good luck with your kitty.
Avatar n tn First of all, are you 100% sure that the wound is because she keeps scratching? If she is, you have to make sure she doesn't have fleas or allergies. Allergy causes a cat to scratch constantly, and it may be caused by anything, from food to wool, to any substance or flea collars. The cat will immediately start scratching until the skin gets irritated. Don't put cortizone on the wound. Triple antibiotics will help keep the wound from drying out and prevent infection of the wound.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
652407 tn?1300737199 Luckily, this food also works wonders for cats with food allergies, who experience what your cat is going through. The food is Hill’s d/d. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar f tn Does not look like it. My cat had something similar and it was the starting of food allergies. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I don't know if this is behavorial or allergies. My cat, female has been licking all her hair off for 6 mo now. This happened sortly soon after she got fixed. She has always been on the thin side. I use Frontline Plus here in Florida. She is totally an inside cat. Now she looks naked except for her head and the places she cannot reach to lick. I took her to a Value Vet once and they told me to give her some hormone. This Did Not Work!.

Avatar f tn Defintely the right choice to get rid of the cat (coming from someone with two cats and cat allergies), she is too young to have to deal with severe allergies. Do as much prevention with the dust allergies as well and hopefully the severity of the reactions with colds/flu will decrease.

Avatar f tn over the next couple weeks i started getting vertigo whenever it felt like my ear was starting to open it would last 2 hours to 10 hours, not getting any answers from my doctor, i went to the emergency rm.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar f tn However, if kitty has a long term illness, such as IBD or cancer, then giving the cat steroid medication is like palliative care and makes the kitty much more comfortable.
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
Avatar f tn I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else. Thanks.
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.
4319250 tn?1352735757 My 3 year old long hair domestic cat has been excessively licking most of his hair off, not completely bald but to where the hair remaining is extremely short. He has been doing this for several months now, as it started when I was finishing up a cheaper flea medication I got from a dollar store. He was fine with it for about 10 or 11 months but the very last dose that I gave him is when the licking began.
Avatar n tn When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
874521 tn?1424116797 My cat has allergies that cause skin breakouts, I've done the steroid route and this works for awhile, now using a change in food and omega 3's and so far he has only had one small breakout that lasted only 2 days and didn't go on to become open and raw sores. My question is, I've read that sometimes benadryl at .25mg per pound can be successful in cats. Is this also avail in topical form rather than using systemically?
Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
