These proteins can be deposited on hair and skin when the cat grooms itself and then become airborne when hair or dander (dead skins cells are shed. More likely the symptoms are from dust, mold, and other debris that get kicked out into the house when you first few times the central heating system kicks in.
4319250 tn?1352735757 My 3 year old long hair domestic cat has been excessively licking most of his hair off, not completely bald but to where the hair remaining is extremely short. He has been doing this for several months now, as it started when I was finishing up a cheaper flea medication I got from a dollar store. He was fine with it for about 10 or 11 months but the very last dose that I gave him is when the licking began.
362249 tn?1441315018 I had allergies to cats, but when given Waldo (a domestic short/medium-hair), I was surprised I didn't have the reaction I had when I was 12. I had some discomfort with the hair and dandruff, but overall not much. I also did pretty well with my grandma's cat which is black and also a domestic short-hair. I read somewhere that lighter cats are better for people with allergies than darker ones (don't know why).
Avatar f tn I would like to know if keeping her around getting these random headaches every so often is dangerous for me in the long run.. or if I can stand the symptoms then I can keep her around... is this a problem that will become serious or can I just keep her around? Please reply.
Avatar f tn Sniffles, I think you got that name regarding the allergies eh? First off, if your friend don't mind, make sure the cats can be brushed. You might or might not know this, but it's not the hair that we are allergic to, it's the cat's saliva. They clean themselves with the saliva and then it gets on the hair. So it's not just the cat/s, it's anything the cat licks or gets the hair after it cleans itself on. Brushing the cat before and after visits will help.
1786778 tn?1314987818 I have a 1 year old black domestic short hair, recently she has been pulling her fur out from 1 spot on her back. We have checked for fleas and bug bites, and dry skin but there seems to be nothing. She also pulls fur out of the other cat we have....but I think that's because she is trying to get the snarls out of his fur. I would just like to know if anyone else has experienced this before.
2109733 tn?1334130838 help my 7 yr old male short hair cat keeps nibbleing hair off and its pretty extensive almost his whole bach and belly, butt, hind legs on both sides what do i do
Avatar n tn If you groom you kitty regularly (which should be at least once a week for a short hair and 2-3 for a long or thick coat) you will be fine. An air purifier is a great solution even if a baby isn't due...and BTW.... Congrats! You don't have to get rid your kitty. BTW that old wives tale about kitty's smothering babies is a myth. I think that is one of the worries you are having.
Avatar n tn Otodectes, Cheyletiella, Scabies, etc, ringworm and other fungal infections, allergies (allergies to food can occur anytime in the life of a cat), bacterial skin infections, endocrine disorders and more. Ringworm, and some mites can be transmitted to people. Frontline does not treat mites. The topical: "Revolution" is for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and scabies, so it might be a good idea to switch to Revolution for a couple of months.
Avatar f tn This type of hair loss is most commonly due to behavioral barbarism, food or environmental allergies, or, mites or fungal skin infections, such as ringworm. If it was due to an a fungal or mite infection other cats in your household would probably be exhibiting symptoms. Please take him to the vet for evaluation. The vet can perform a skin scraping and other diagnostic tests. If it is truly behavioral, there are excellent behavioral modification medications that should help.
Avatar f tn I had cat hair allergy and it is much reduced now
1590008 tn?1297040041 It is not red of dry or irritated looking in any way, there is just no hair or very little. She is an indoor cat and does not have fleas, mites, or anything else of that sort. The funny thing is that I have only seen her hack up a furball about 10 times her entire lifetime. It seems to be a psychological issue as her toys, litter, food, scratching post, and bed are still the same. I bought the feliway plug in which has definitely calmed her down.
Avatar n tn I don't know what the discharge is or what it means. I had to try a few different kinds of cat foods before I found one that my cat likes that she isn't allergic to. My cat is allergic to grains.
Avatar n tn Food allergies, fleas allergy dermatitis, scabies and other mites are all culprit's for hair loss. Please have your cat examined by a vet.
Avatar f tn A cat that was injured before or hurt in any way often pull there hair out. Pain causes them to pull out the hair in places where there in pain or either itching from healing.
Avatar n tn I don't know if this is behavorial or allergies. My cat, female has been licking all her hair off for 6 mo now. This happened sortly soon after she got fixed. She has always been on the thin side. I use Frontline Plus here in Florida. She is totally an inside cat. Now she looks naked except for her head and the places she cannot reach to lick. I took her to a Value Vet once and they told me to give her some hormone. This Did Not Work!.
Avatar f tn I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with my first child and have been living with my partners family. His mom rescued a stray cat about 3 months ago even though there was a possibility that the cat could harm me or my baby. Pregnant women aren't suppose to come in contact with cat urine because it can affect an unborn child. Also, being that it was a stray I thought it was completey irresponsible for her to bring it in the house without having seen a vet first.

Avatar f tn Finally my doctor decided my cat was simply neurotic and possibly she had OCD or depression. My doctor said as long its not causing problems like infections and open wounds it should be fine. She offered to give anti-depressants for the cat if it was OCD, depression or some or mental health pet problem, but at the price i have not. I will keep it in my back pocket for last resorts.
168348 tn?1379357075 I'll read it. Honestly, I've never owned a Siberian kitty. I'd love to own one, that's for sure. But I've never even touched one. But if they're hypoallergenic then it must mean the hair texture is different. I know Yorkshire dogs are less likely to cause allergies because of the hair type which is closer than any other breed to human hair.
Avatar f tn My mum is allergic to cats, what can i do to my cat to help her with her allergies??
