203342 tn?1328737207 Actually, being allergic to cat hair of any length is quite rare. The more common cat allergy is to various proteins contained in cat saliva. These proteins can be deposited on hair and skin when the cat grooms itself and then become airborne when hair or dander (dead skins cells are shed. More likely the symptoms are from dust, mold, and other debris that get kicked out into the house when you first few times the central heating system kicks in.
Avatar n tn re getting rid of their winter layers right now. Princess is our long-haired cat, as well, and they tend to shed more than short-haired cats.
Avatar n tn s really your decision at my house we have a golden retriever and a long haired cat not my choice but my fiances parents since we live with them at the moment but personally there are hypoallergenic cats and dogs out there if u want to be safe about it...
1394098 tn?1385960134 But about 3 years ago I got a 13 year old male long haired black cat from the Humane Society by accident. They gave me the wrong cat. I was supposed to get a three year old black long haired female cat. . But that’s another story for another time. I felt bad for him and went ahead and kept him so he could live out his remaining life with a loving family. Then about 6 months later, my husband brought home a one day old kitten for me to take care of. That’s also another story for another time.
1786778 tn?1314987818 12 year old long haired female started with hine legs up to tail and now around rib area. she is not totally bald and there is no signs of infections or hot to touch just leaving behind fuzz. please help my old dearest cat.
Avatar f tn Yes - I definitely agree short-haired cats shed, I find many shed worse than long haired cats. Very rarely have I found throw up due to a hair ball. I am just not sure, that is what it is... because when there is no edge/box available... I don't see her finding alternative ways to get the hair ball up (if that is what it was)... hmmmmm, just don't know. I could definitely try the hairball treatment, it can't hurt. Thanks for your thoughts.
535822 tn?1443976780 Margy, you may not have to worry too much about this since your kitty is fairly short haired. At least he looked short haired in the picture. Cats will ingest their fur when grooming themselves and this is usually a bit more of a problem with med/long haired cats. It will usually pass through the system, but sometimes there's a build up in the stomach and kitty will throw it up.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old female long haired munchkin, Lily, has not been eating on her own or going to the bathroom at all. She throws up after syringe feeding her with soft mushy foods. I took her to the vet last night and they gave her some antibiotics and a fluid shot because she is so dehydrated. Today will make it a week she has been sick. I couldn't afford to pay the vet to keep her overnight with an IV. I left her with my mother in law today who use to work for a vet many years ago.
Avatar n tn My parents black long haired cat has turned orange. We're really confused. It wasn't sudden, it has happened over a few years. She is about 10 or 11 years old, spends most of her time outside. She doesn't have any rashes or scabs on her skin, and seems healthy. Her head and extremities are still black but her body is orange. Does anyone know why?
Avatar n tn Hi, I have a 4 month old long haired kitten, he has had a healthy appetite since I got him at just under 2 mos old. I have been feeding him kitten's eukanuba and he loves it. He is an entirely indoor cat. Suddenly yesterday when I was home on a work break I noticed a couple spots on the floor. At first I thought for some reason he didn't use his box and the thought puzzled me, but I smelled it and it had only a faint scent of cat food.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your question ... i 'think' it's happening not too long after he eats his kibble that i keep out 24/7 ...and he eats it all the time! (he also gets a can of Fancy Feast 1x day ...i have now started to give him the 'hairball' gel that comes in tubes and now brushing him frequently ... he's a medium=haired cat with a very long full tail ...inside cat by the way... do you have any suggestions as to what i should do when i see this happening i.e.
704329 tn?1518523098 I just took my cat into the vet to get spade a few weeks ago, but they told me she had a mild fever and would rather wait till it was gone to perform her surgery. They ran a blood panel on her and also had an examination and sent her home with antibiotics (Clavamox 62.5mg for 2x weeks). We discovered shortly after a small skin irritation on the back of her kneck under her fur. (She's a long haired cat). We didn't think nothing of it, but maybe Ring worm?
Avatar n tn Let me reassure you that his behavior is not abnormal, considering he's a cat. Many cats "flip out" when petted, exactly as you describe. It is more common in, but not exclusive to long-haired cats. My older daughter's Himalayan did that her whole life, for 18 years. So far as I can tell, the dynamic is that the cat so loves being petted that it goes into some kind of ecstasy in which it is not responsible for its behavior.
13596572 tn?1431104376 My cat is 6 months old, male, and he has been vomiting since a few days, I want to know what's wrong with him, he is a long haired cat, not any special breed or anything. He eats and then pukes it all out. It happened 3-4 times by now. :( I am really worried, please help me as soon as possible.
1456770 tn?1285461525 Is she by any chance a long haired cat? Long hairs are less likely to paw in litter to cover it up because the litter gets trapped in their paws. You could try a coarser type of litter that is less likely to get trapped in her paw pads, but if she has been not covering for 10 years, it is probably unlikely that she will start doing so now. As for cleaning and the smell, it probably wouldn't be any different if she covered it.
506791 tn?1439842983 'The little victories"....for sure, Pip, for sure. :) Although I don't love stray cats around due to disease, Jade has made a new friend herself. Dh mentioned he'd seen a large black cat hanging around; well, this kitty is a beautiful, long haired, enormous lookin' male(?). I only saw it briefly, but Jade was right next to it seeming almost to be saying 'wanna play?
996946 tn?1503249112 Its like they form little balls of saliva and then sometimes they will shake their heads and spit flys everywhere. Does anyone know what causes this? I have a long-haired kitten who will be a yr old next week and she hasn't started drooling yet. Her mother is 2 and she is a drooler.
Avatar f tn s tail can tell you a lot about them! one of my cats is an all black, long haired guy. he keeps his tail pointed straight up almost all the time. one of my favorite things in the world is when he walks across the floor in front of the coffee table, if I am on the opposite side I can't see his body at all, only about 4 inches of fuzz bobbing along. hilarious!
Avatar f tn I have a long-haired, soon-to-be 7-year-old cat. She throws up a lot. Sometimes it's a hairball but generally it's just vomit. I've learned to keep her a little bit hungry but not so much that she eats too fast when she eats again as both of these extremes cause her to get sick more. I know cats throw up but she seems to do it more than other cats I've had. She's laid back and doesn't seem psychologically damaged. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn I've been following this. I don't have a long-haired cat, so I wasn't sure if there was anything I could suggest. I know what their hair is like, though. I have a grooming tool called a "shedding blade", which my cat loves. I've even tried this thing out on other peoples' cats with long hair. It seemed to work well even on their undercoats.
