When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?

I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.

I am suffering from something similar with my new kitten (he's 5 mo.). He was an outside cat the first 4 mo. or so of his life. This year here in central Tx. the pollen and other allergens have been horrendous. A friend on here helped me with understanding this. The cat licks his fur..then carries the allergen in his mouth and licks his fur again. Mine even scratches me on the hands and I think, transfers the residue from his claws to me producing little red itchy whelps on my hands.

Some allergen exposure control methods are to clean very well daily (vacuum, sweep, dust), keep the cat out of your bedroom, wash your hands after playing with the cat, and shower before bed. If you can train the cat to tolerate a bath that would be beneficial as well. Otherwise you could try wiping its coat with a damp cloth regulary. There are ways to live with pet allergies and keep the pet.

I have a cat that when his allergies act up he gets that way. I just had to get him a shot ,kinda like benadryl for cats and he snaps out of that. Hope your cat gets better...

My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

I know there are many cat owners who can afford to get another cat after one dies. This can work or not. It is a risk and an expense. Am sure you have already thought of this option. Do keep us posted. Hope things return to normal soon.

Defintely the right choice to get rid of the cat (coming from someone with two cats and cat allergies), she is too young to have to deal with severe allergies. Do as much prevention with the dust allergies as well and hopefully the severity of the reactions with colds/flu will decrease.

I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.

over the next couple weeks i started getting vertigo whenever it felt like my ear was starting to open it would last 2 hours to 10 hours, not getting any answers from my doctor, i went to the emergency rm.

I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

What can cause my cat to vomit light brown liquid; I am under the assumption that it is stomach bile. Neither blood nor odor are present. She is nursing five kittens that will be three weeks old tomorrow. Their last check up was a week ago and all were deemed healthy; including Chelsea (mom cat). She has never vomitted before.

How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.

Hi I've recently moved to a new home, and almost straight away I agreed to take in a kitten to look after for a friend. Since around the same time I'm having asthmatic symptoms mainly when I go to bed or as soon as I wake up. I had asthma as a child (I'm 28 now) but it went away as I got into my teens.

Is it possible to rehome the cat and dog? Just wondering. If your girlfriend has had the cat since it was a kitten and her dog since it was a puppy, she would be very attached to them, so rehoming would not be an option. I wish you both well.

hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!

Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.

It could be IBD, or it could be hypersensitivity to food or environmental allergies. Have your vet place your cat on a hypoallergenic diet such Hill's Z/D or lamb and pea. Always use canned only. It will take 2 months or so for her previous food to get out of her system. The medications Prednisolone and Atopica should be given simultaneously, to help speed up the healing process.

my Bengal started licking her hair off her tummy when she got spayed as a kitten she is now 3 yrs old. She eats well plays well loves to snuggle. she got a new companion another Bengal when we lost our Abyisiaian a few yrs ago to cancer. They get along great...... she is still licking she litterially has no hair from her privates to the top of her belly where she can reach with her tongue. She never likes her belly rubbed either.

My dog had her blood work tested for allergies and is currently having shots now for almost a year. Her stomach is breaking out so bad now and her skin on her stomach has got so thin from all the Cortizone sprays, injections etc.. Our vet has takin her off all Cortizone do to skin thinning out. Do you know of any other product we can use instead of Cortizone. "Jersey" our dog is always licking and not resting much because of this.
