Cat allergies in winter

Common Questions and Answers about Cat allergies in winter

cat-allergies

Avatar m tn I’m annually bitten by fleas for about 15 years now and during the winter they stop biting. Have you been tested for allergies? During the winter most people spend more time in the home than they do outside so it could be an allergy to something inside your home it could be a mold allergy. Also flea bites blister if have a mark like a mosquito bite with a small blister in the center it’s a flea bite.
7639611 tn?1392877261 Only a skin test (that tests for cat allergy) will rule out for sure whether it is cat allergy or not. If it is cat allergy, then if you do not take anti-allergic pills, the symptoms will resurface time and again. You can again start the medications (after consulting a doctor) to see if your symptoms subside. Also, you could live away from the cat for a day or two and see if your symptoms improve. However, it would be best to consult a doctor who can examine you.
1232362 tn?1333135406 Sometimes when she is asleep in the daytime I hear it. Of course, this kitty has allergies, so that could be part of her problem. She has some of the same allergies I do. I don't think humidifiers would be the answer for us, because we have the opposite problem. I have a measuring device for the humidity level in here, so I know that isn't the issue for us. If you heard the way this cat snores, you might bust out laughing yourself. You wouldn't be able to help it.
746512 tn?1388807580 Alright, need some input or personal experience. This is the three year in a row that my allergies/asthma (or non-asthma who knows) is getting worse from middle of november into december. This can't be due to the cats since I am down one cat now and I have NO ALLERGIES in the spring with increased shedding. It is worse when I go outside and if I'm in and out at work or if it's busy and the door is constantly opened and closed I also have worsening symptoms.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure what time is bad for me, since I was diagnosed in may. I know now that summer is not good for me (I'm not allergic to any grass or stuff, I'm allergic to the smell of them). I've been out of breath for about 2 weeks (heat wave). I'm not good at all with humidity, exercise, perfums, molds, and illness (that's all I know for now), so I'm pretty scared about winter (I'm always sick in the winter). I guess I'll just have to see.
Avatar m tn Also the cough was worse in winter, possibly the drier air. I just took the cat again last month for checkup because he's been coughing more. I couldn't afford to run all the tests again. I got more theopylline for him and it isn't working as good. The cat is the boss of my dog, they tolerate each other, but the cat can scare him with a look. We also have a 1yr old female bengal cat, unspayed (temp due to $$).
203342 tn?1328737207 The reason I'm asking this is my allergies have been just wild the last few weeks, and it seems to be when I'm in the house. I'm sneezing, congested, itchy, etc., When I'm out I don't notice it as much but as soon as I'm back home it seems to come right on me. So, there's something in the house, something new I'm assuming, that I'm reacting to. The only thing new I can think of is my son's new cat he brought back home with him.
Avatar m tn We have a 14 year old female cat that is sneezing a lot last year during the winter and this winter. Last winter the vet put her on predisone and it helped. It seems like there is a lot of mucus behind her nose in her sinuses. The vet last year thought it was allergies or asthma. Thinking about getting her sinus x-ray.
Avatar m tn I have a 7 year old cat, male. All winter and spring he was fine, till the weather got better. Then he started to jump up on the window ledge as always.( Summer and Fall }He has started to lick off the hair on his bag legs, lower belly and parts of his tail.also noticed some type of uzing liquid that is warm.We noticed because he lye's on a towel.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar m tn Avoiding allergins is key - but what about those who live year round not experiencing vast climate changes in the winter and still have allergies? I'm all for an elimination diet if ok with one's doctor or a challenge during pollen season if ok with one's doctor but a patient who tests + via skin or RAST testing can have serious complications from that sniffle or itchy eye you describe and can turn deadly without being properly controlled by medication.
Avatar f tn Hello, Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. You can confirm whether you are allergic to cats by getting allergy testing done.Skin tests and blood tests like RAST are done for this purpose.Pls consult an allergist and get them done.
Avatar f tn It does sound like there is an asthma component there, considering she has a cough only in the winter time. Not everyone reacts the same way to allergy testing (skin *****). From my experience, I didn't even have a bump for the control (histamine), which everyone is supposed to have. I ended up seeing a second allergist and he explained it nicely. The first time I had my allergies tested for, I didn't show anything as my allergies were too "new" as he put it.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Avatar f tn glaucoma in 2007. But I have had a dry cough for ages, primarily just in the winter months. I do have hay fever in the spring but no other allergies & I have never been around chemical or industrial pollutants other than living in S. CA for 40 years before moving to Wisconsin. So how likely is it that the cats are the cause & if they are, how effective would givng them all way be for me. Other than the heartbreak.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn I was in construction site this morning, my coworker allowed me to use his personal gloves ( waterproof, windproof) because my hands are freezing, i had a small wound in my hands that time and it is not actively bleeding, and i noticed that my coworker have a small wound in his hand, I would like to ask if i put my risk to contract hiv virus in my case, the gloves is windproof so no air should penetrate inside the gloves,
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar f tn I have inside cats and i intend on putting them outside when baby gets here. But, im wandering is it really necessary to put them out in the middle of winter? They have been inside cats since birth and are very well-behaved. Does anyone else have inside cats??
440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
Avatar f tn in july of 08 i woke up one morning, my right ear starting feeling as if it was tightening all of a sudden, then i started getting dizzy and feeling sick to my stomach, it was the starting of vertigo, which i had never had or heard of before...my husband took me immediately to the doctor, he checked me and said i am swollen in nose and glands, he gave me meclizine and told me to take it every 8 hours....that was all!..
850029 tn?1238857820 He has a CAT which is how he thought could be the case. What are the effects of just leaving it in there? If it is fungus?
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
Avatar f tn When we first let him come in he was like that but it went away during the cold months (winter months) then now it came back. My husband is at the end of his rope with the cat...because 2 times now he had to clean up poop because the cat was too scared to go thru the room to the litter box (the other cats in the room - he doesn't like one of our cats). I just can't let him go back out permanently to live outside due to the fact he can't defend himself bec of being declawed.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar m tn Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??
