1232362 tn?1333135406 I figure if people can build up resistance to antihistamines that it would be reasonable to assume that the same thing can happen to the cat. I generally give her the Zyrtec when the allergies are bothering her the most so that I don't give her too much.
Avatar n tn Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar n tn however they do go into the backyard with me only, for the fresh air daily, most of the cats I had would never attempt to jump the fence, but one of the ones I now have certainly would.....so he is on a leash! I take him for at least an hour stroll around the yard each day so he can walk around smelling all the scents and get some sun...this one LOVES the outdoors, other one Nemo 10 min. and hes had enough and ready to come inside.
Avatar f tn Also, being that it was a stray I thought it was completey irresponsible for her to bring it in the house without having seen a vet first. I asked for the cat and the litter box to be left in her room to avoid any risks. I have not come in any contact with the cat at all until last night. Somehow the cat had gotten into my room and was hiding under the bed without my knowledge. After finally realizing the cat had been in the room I picked it up and put it outside of the room.
440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
Avatar f tn apparently it has to do with its DNA of some sort in the dander not producing a certain element that the other breeds create which most cat allergic people are triggered by. Some even offer money back in two weeks if you are allergic once the pet is placed. You can buy some type of insurance. But after looking into the prices on this type of cat .. it isn't happening here. We'll stick with my hypoallergenic ShihTzu dog which so far, for us, is fine ..
541150 tn?1306033843 When I mentioned my cat Smokey in the post above, it was different in that we had only had Smokey about 6 months and I did not have a special bond with her, not like you have with Abby. I would just be a little cautious in the beginning.
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
Avatar m tn ve developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.
203342 tn?1328737207 The reason I'm asking this is my allergies have been just wild the last few weeks, and it seems to be when I'm in the house. I'm sneezing, congested, itchy, etc., When I'm out I don't notice it as much but as soon as I'm back home it seems to come right on me. So, there's something in the house, something new I'm assuming, that I'm reacting to. The only thing new I can think of is my son's new cat he brought back home with him.
1474611 tn?1416632958 hi this is so very common anymore....and almost ALL the time is due to food allergies, mainly grains in their food.(cheap additives). is your kitty fed dry food? these are the worst for allergies. the best possible advice I can give you is to change to a CANNED food with NO grains...kitty's don't like this very much b/c of course like us they love carbs...so its like going from french fries to broccoli, so you can't do it over night.
1474611 tn?1416632958 We have a cat who likes to be in the bathroom when I'm in there. It doesn't matter if I'm using the toilet or in the shower. When I'm in the shower, he's content to just sit in the bathroom while I'm showering. My husband has to chase our cat out at least 3 or 4 times. It's like our cat has a separation thing. When I come home, he's all over me and the fact that I'm home.
485351 tn?1208647497 Our other cat is not experiencing any of the other symptoms except the dandruff near the tail. They are both entirely indoor cats, never left the home unless to visit the vet, so I'm puzzled as to their aquisition of a parasite, if that is the case. I work at home and give them a lot of attention. Any ideas on what may be causing this? We live far from the vet, so another agonizing car ride would be best avoided if at all possible. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Sniffles, I think you got that name regarding the allergies eh? First off, if your friend don't mind, make sure the cats can be brushed. You might or might not know this, but it's not the hair that we are allergic to, it's the cat's saliva. They clean themselves with the saliva and then it gets on the hair. So it's not just the cat/s, it's anything the cat licks or gets the hair after it cleans itself on. Brushing the cat before and after visits will help.
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
1116122 tn?1268496794 Hi, I get allergy shots for cat dander and pollens. Mine are covered under preventive care and are 90% covered. I had Rush and Rush day is kind of expensive. I take Xyzal (antihistamine) and Nasacort (steroid nasal spray) for allergies. Both are prescription medications. Benadryl works and it's OTC, but is really sedating and you have to take it several times a day. Tammy2009 is right about cat bathing.
Avatar m tn t know why that is impacting his life, but it sounds like the cat has anxiety. Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. If they feel that is the reason, they can give the cat a shot that will temporarily relieve the itching for about a month.
1756384 tn?1312562154 t let then in the bedroom, I keep the door closed and have an air purifier but as soon as I wake up in the AM, I am itching again..like the cat hair is getting on me. If I do not wipe myself off before going to bed and applying anti-itch (cortizone cream) to areas where I am itching, I will be awake all night and start to itch on my scalp and in my ears! Any advice? I have had skin allergy tests recently and it doesn't show positive for cat/dog allergies so they won't give me shots.
Avatar f tn You can experience episodes of tinnitus, vertigo and progressive hearing loss. Lymphatic channels in the inner ear are dilated and affect the drainage of fluid of the inner ear labyrinth/endolymph. Usually one ear is affected. There is no exact cause why this happens. I was initially diagnosed with this, but after a second opinion it was found that I didn't have it; I have Unresolved Labyrinthitis. So, please make sure the diagnosis is correct.
362249 tn?1441315018 Sometimes as well -- depending on the house, you can mitigate your allergies if they aren't severe by the places you let your cat be (for instance, not letting the cat sleep in your bed with you, even hough that's a bummer).
Avatar n tn My cat was a street cat before I had taken him in 3 years ago and as I predicted the drive and going to the vet stressed the hell out of him.He almost died there if we hadn't put him in an oxygen chamber. when he was calmer the vet took xrays of his chest and didn't find anything in particular. He thought he might have a heart condition and asthma. The blood tests were also fine. I took him home after he received some more shots and a fluid transfusion.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I hope your cat started eating again? Mine did this in October. He stopped eating, we took him to the vet. The vet said he had allergies, gave him meds. My cat still didn't eat so we brought him back. It turned out that his allergies affected his pancreas and he developed secondary diabetes. We had to leave our cat at the animal hospital for one full week because he wouldn't eat. He was on IV. Once a cat stops eating, he/she loses the interest to eat.
