Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.

I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.

I concur with everyone else here. One way to find out if food allergies is a problem, though, is to try a grain free canned food. There are other brands than what I've been using myself, but what I've been giving to Akira is a brand called Wellness, which is grain free. Cats should not eat dry kibble in the first place, because they get most of their water from their food. Remember, most cat breeds originated in desert areas of the earth.

Thats a really great idea I should ask! I dont feel my allergies are severe my SIL has had cats in her house and my allergies were not "killing me" where i couldnt stand it! sometimes i feel the need to get up and wash my hands but nothing too bad!! I do think if I follow the advice online about vacuuming my carpet and maybe getting a humidifier then i would be ok! they say its the dander released into the air that gets you!

I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.

I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

I know this question may sound ridiculous but are people with hiv more prone to allergies? Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??

Many people with pet allergies develop an immunity to the animal they are routinely exposed to, but remain allergic to other animals. You may eventually develop and immunity to your new cat, but no telling how long that would take. The cheapest and most effective thing would be to give the cat away, but that is hard to do. I would recommend Zyrtec as a antihistamine (allergy stop tablet), sinus rinse bottler (available in pharmacies).

Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.

the allergies can be inhaled, ingested or environmental. the only thing I do NOT agree with unless in an absolute last resort is the use of steroids. To start with I am glad you are changing to a wet food variety. many allergies are associated with the preservatives and grains in dry food...which some kitties are hyper sensitive too. feed canned grain free food. and the area your kitty is pulling hair from(back legs and quarters) can also indicate a litter allergy.

my right eye is itching and burning in the corners. Ive also been sneezing off an on so this quite possibly could be from allergies, iwas recently diagnosed with hpv about 1 month ago am awaiting treatment at the derm which i have in the next upcoming weeks, this all started this eye nose thing when i went home to my fathers who owns a cat and i was sneezing having asthma rubbing my eyes im wondering if somehow i couldve spread hpv to my eyes.
