Avatar f tn I'm a first time mom (due march 23)and have a cat that's going to be 3 in January. I've tried to introduce my cat to those of the younger crowd (no younger than 2)but she usually hisses (I have her wrapped in a towel) yet when I am lying down she comes up to me and "makes biscuits" right where the baby is positioned. Is she only hissing at the others because she's not use to them, they don't have my scent or she just doesn't like kids?
9138366 tn?1410253633 Ya that is not good. Notice how your cat lays by your head if you don't teach him not to go in the crib and keeps going in it when baby is here he is probably going to sleep by the babies head and since cats don't have a sense if boundaries if they get too close to the baby they can suffocate the baby.
Avatar n tn I saw a story on the news once that cats have actually killed many newborns. They will crawl in the crib and put their faces inside the new borns mouths for the milk. It was the freakiest thing that I've ever seen.
Avatar f tn It was a slow introduction as our dog is quite hyper, but, we used a wrap that we had my son wrapped in for the first day in hospital and my partner took it home and let the dog sniff it and put it on the floor / lounge / in his lap and would tell the dog 'no' if he came near it so the dog was used to the smell. By the time baby came home it was like the dog didn't even notice him ! I really think that made all the difference.
Avatar f tn Is there maybe a friend or family member that could keep your cat for a while? I think that between 2 newborns and a 2 year old that you and your husband will have your hands full. Not to mention you all will need to get rest when the babies are resting so that things can run as smooth as possible without you 2 being exhausted. Newborns do sleep for lots of hours but that's chopped into bits and pieces and every baby is different...I wouldn't rely on that.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn Hello, Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. You can confirm whether you are allergic to cats by getting allergy testing done.Skin tests and blood tests like RAST are done for this purpose.Pls consult an allergist and get them done.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar f tn Not necessarily . but u can be careful. Like if the baby is sleeping then make sure the cat can't get in the room.. Or just keep a close eye to make sure the cat doesn't get on the babies face or start licking the babies face.
440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
Avatar f tn in july of 08 i woke up one morning, my right ear starting feeling as if it was tightening all of a sudden, then i started getting dizzy and feeling sick to my stomach, it was the starting of vertigo, which i had never had or heard of before...my husband took me immediately to the doctor, he checked me and said i am swollen in nose and glands, he gave me meclizine and told me to take it every 8 hours....that was all!..
Avatar f tn Old wives tales. Just be smart. Don't leave your cat in a room with your baby alone as yes the cat may want to cuddle up to the baby and cats have sharp claws and teeth. I have a cat I've had it since before I had my first I'm now pregnant with my third and they've all managed to survive with my cat.
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
795082 tn?1361901918 Hi girls i have 3 cats and i was wondering if any one has had any problem with their family pets sleeping in or on the baby's stuff. the only thing i have is a "dirty with daddy in garage" stroller and my skittish cat likes to sleep under the carseat in the stroller when i see her in there i of course take her out.
Avatar m tn Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??
Avatar n tn When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
Avatar f tn Ive only heard of cats trying to smother newborns and too keep them in seperate rooms..
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
7165624 tn?1395647767 I have allergies im wondering if i can buy certain pills or what do you do when u get them??

5655568 tn?1371757104 Recently, I noticed that my 10 month of cat has licked/chewed off fur in one particular spot. The spot doesn't seem to be bothering him much, he's just as playful and sweet as always. Whenever I touch it, he doesn't jerk away like it hurts or anything. I only noticed the spot just yesterday, and it wasn't very big. Today, however, I noticed that it was a bit bigger. I don't know if it's dry skin, or he maybe got bitten by something?
Avatar m tn t know why that is impacting his life, but it sounds like the cat has anxiety. Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. If they feel that is the reason, they can give the cat a shot that will temporarily relieve the itching for about a month.
Avatar n tn We have a 16.5 year old Bermese-mixed cat, who is (within the last 10 days) losing her fur in clumps. She is an indoor cat. Our other cat, who's 16 was raised with her with no signs of the same condition affecting her. We have not changed her cat food and have not found any flea droppings on her at all. The only changes in the house, was a recent loss of our 13 yr old dog and an addition of a 7 mo puppy in December.
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
