My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

unfortunately some will suffer regardless, but I have always been taught that dirty kids are healthy kids and I must admit that I have so far found that to be true we have 2 dogs and a cat and my kids spend their time digging in the garden and getting dirty, they rarely get ill and suffer no allergies...only time will tell it your little one will suffer, but dont stress about that yet!

How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! My doctor told me to ignore people telling me to get rid of my cat. He said studies suggests that kids that grow up in farms around animals etc are healthiest, developing strong immune systems. That said, Im going to monitor my cat at all times and not let her be in the nursery or room when baby is napping and so am I. My cat hasnt tried jumping in the crib so Im relieved about that too.

so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?

I even know a family with 10 kids who grew up in the filthiest conditions you can imagine - just disgusting - and all those children rarely got sick and not a single one has any allergies, either. Some of those kids now have kids of their own (all still live in the same house under even worse conditions now) and they're healthy, too. hahaha...you and me giving this sort of advice - kind of funny, huh?

I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.

He had the same thing in February, got a shot and it went away. I read that fish based foods can cause allergies. He only eats chicken flavored food but I had just given him a salmon flavored treat a day or so before the lip flare up. Anyway, I know that the vet will not want to give him another steroid shot so soon after the other one. Does this sort of thing usually go away on it's own? He seems fine and is eating and drinking.

in july of 08 i woke up one morning, my right ear starting feeling as if it was tightening all of a sudden, then i started getting dizzy and feeling sick to my stomach, it was the starting of vertigo, which i had never had or heard of before...my husband took me immediately to the doctor, he checked me and said i am swollen in nose and glands, he gave me meclizine and told me to take it every 8 hours....that was all!..

Here its THE TOP TOP - the one sold in the best places and the one EVERYBODY ( vets also) calls " the best a cat can get - give it for them if you could afford - and sorry if you cant..." I m not sure we could substitute it for another equal - not to mention for something better.Royal Canin is already a quite expensive food - and together with Hills /Science Diet ( that I learned from you at MH is NOT GOOD as well) are the BEST ones you can get on local pet places.

Thats a really great idea I should ask! I dont feel my allergies are severe my SIL has had cats in her house and my allergies were not "killing me" where i couldnt stand it! sometimes i feel the need to get up and wash my hands but nothing too bad!! I do think if I follow the advice online about vacuuming my carpet and maybe getting a humidifier then i would be ok! they say its the dander released into the air that gets you!

I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.

Recently my cat has been ripping out his fur a LOT more than normal. He's not grooming, but tearing it right out, and it's now around the hind or inside of his legs. He is around 9 years old, a black cat, neutered, less than obese, and have been giving him (probably) healthier food such as the Wellness Brand seafood dry food and Natural seafood wet food, sometimes giving him Friskies wet food as a reward.

I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??

When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?

Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.

hi, so sorry to hear what you are dealing with...I don't think this is due to the surgery but more so a 'cat flu' or Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) very possibly picked up at the vet clinic...Have Charlie and the kittens been vaccinated? I wouldn't do it now if they haven't already...don't believe in vaccinating a sick cat and have them get even worse... And they have all been in contact now and these diseases spread quickly. CATFLU...

Recently, I noticed that my 10 month of cat has licked/chewed off fur in one particular spot. The spot doesn't seem to be bothering him much, he's just as playful and sweet as always. Whenever I touch it, he doesn't jerk away like it hurts or anything. I only noticed the spot just yesterday, and it wasn't very big. Today, however, I noticed that it was a bit bigger. I don't know if it's dry skin, or he maybe got bitten by something?
