3170462 tn?1344717552 t mean to sound obtuse, but a specialist of what? Cats? Allergies? Cat allergies? Do these specialists have a title or a specific field of study that I can begin searching for one by?
1565420 tn?1304572548 That is seven years in humans and a lot can change in 7 years. Please take your cat back to the vet and have blood work including thyroid testing, and a urinalysis. If your cat is dehydrated and is only eating dry food please allow your vet to give subcutaneous fluid therapy and eliminate dry kibble and feed wet only. If your cat is constipated, wet food will help to hydrate the bowel. Your vet can give appropriate treatment once definitive diagnosis is made.
Avatar m tn In 2002 my son was gouged by a very sick stray cat. The cat was lethargic, had a fever, nasal and eye discharge. I asked my son to pick the cat up as we were taking it to the vet. It was literally dying in our yard. The cat was about 6-months old. My son has been incredibly sick ever since. Are these symptoms too vague to suggest what this cat could have been suffering from and possibly transmitted to my son? We live in Southern Alberta...prairie-like area west of the Canadian Rockies.
5347058 tn?1381188426 sensitive commonly to a preservative or ingredient in dry kibble type food. grain allergies are common in cats and most cat foods are full of unnecessary grains just b/c they are 'cheap' fillers for the manufacturer, they do absolutely nothing for the diet!!! there are some 'grain free' diets on the market that may be a worth a trial. EVO, Wellness and Natures Variety are a few. cats can also suffer from environmental allergies....such as what you decide with your kitty.....
Avatar f tn hi and welcome to our cat forum, I hope we can help with some answers. feline acne is usually related to the use of plastic as you have found out, you will control or eliminate the problem by using glass or ceramic dishes. the scabs on his neck are usually an allergic response to fleas/dust/mites/diet/chemicals etc....its very common!
Avatar f tn ‘Feral cats are animals that are no longer under human control, but live and reproduce in the wild, usually in close association with humans. Humans have neglected these animals, which live exposed to disease, hunger, weather and attack from dogs, humans or other cats and animals. Some of these cats may survive for several years before succumbing to starvation, disease, dogs, other animals or motor vehicles.
168348 tn?1379357075 Any thoughts on whether they really are hypoallergenic for those humans with cat allergies?
Avatar m tn The purpose of patents is to protect ideas that investigators hope to investigate. There is no credible evidence that I am aware of that FIV causes disease in humans. Please do not worry and do not worry about your cat, the possiblity of it infecting you or you infecting your girlfriend.
Avatar n tn If your cat has a respiratory infection he is likely to also develop a wet nose. If your cat has become lethargic, or there has been any change in his toilet or eating habits it is likely that the wateriness is just an exterior sign of an underlying illness.
Avatar n tn Having blood in the colon is bad, what can I tell you, and it can be seen when the cat goes to the bathroom. Inflammation in the rectum can be caused by food allergies, again, constipation, diarrhea or bacterial infection. You want to take the cat to the vet to get a diagnosis, and it might be a good idea to take a stool sample to the vet with you. Hopefully, your cat's problem is he is having a bit of a hard time evacuating.
Avatar f tn hi so sorry for poor kitties problems, its not likely allergies, unlike us humans an allergy for a cat shows up as a problem with their skin.(as far as I am aware).. but the eye discharge sounds like something that does need to be investigated by a Vet...what exactly was he diagnosed with the first time he was seen?...In my opinion its more of a further health condition and not likely an infection because it is chronic.
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.
203342 tn?1328737207 hi, I truly believe cats can smell hormonal changes but that shouldn't be a negative reaction....I think the cat is just scared!..when he's in a strange house and locked in a small room where he can't get out and explore all the new smells, than he's 'hyper' alert...therefor reacting I'm sure to perhaps the altered scent of your daughter? The cat is only with you for a week, can she just avoid the laundry room for a week if shes afraid of the cat?...
Avatar f tn can humans develope asthma from severe reaction to many flea bites. my cat developed asthma from them.
Avatar m tn My cat has a hole in his leg, I cleaned it up but was told he might need a antibiotic. My doctor gave me azithromycin 5 daily dose. I was wondering if I can use it on my cat? I can't take him to a vet, so I'm trying to handle this at home.
Avatar m tn I do not know for sure if the Elderberry/Flowers are safe for cats to consume, but I honestly think once cooked it could be mixed in after cooked/dried with wet cat food to help with allergies, runny nose/goopy eye/cough/sneeze; Cold/Flue viruses.
Avatar f tn s then a human so ask for a dose. Benadryl, clemastine, chlorpheniramine are all good. Doxepin is an anti depressant in humans but is a great antihistimine for dogs. If cost isn't an issue then ask about Atopica. This works as good as a steroid but without the harmful side effects that steroids can cause your pups internal organs. Definitely read up on my posts about eleimination diets. They can be the easiest and cheapest way to control an allergy. Good luck!
647911 tn?1373314647 There are viruses that people and cats can both get, for one example, chlamydia, and it manifests as a respiratory/eye infection in the cat (but I can't remember if it manifests that way in a person or not). You might check with the vet and see if the cat should be treated.
681148 tn?1437661591 It seems like Akira has seasonal allergies and dust allergies in addition to her food allergies. Because I really don't want to give her long term steroids, I decided to only give her the 1/4 tablet of Zyrtec that the vet told me to give her before. I try to wait 'til I just have to give it to her, because I know that people can build up a tolerance to antihistamines, so I figure that animals can, too.
Avatar m tn is there a common sensitivity to aeroallegens in shared environments?. [Review] [83 refs] Source Environmental Research. 109(5):634-40, 2009 Jul. Abstract Cats spontaneously develop eosinophilic airway inflammation and airway hyperreactivity that is very similar to human allergic asthma. In addition, household cats share environmental exposures to aeroallergens with humans.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
1206168 tn?1280367231 This question is very hard for me to ask, because i put myself in an awkward position. I have had my cat for many years and have no allergies to her. I have seen a couple doctor's over a month for symptoms of swollen lymph nodes on/off (always present) , numb throat, ringing of the ears, and my brian felt like it was swelling largly at one time. All these symptoms look as if i have a major sinus infection. I have taken amoxicillin, z pak, nasal sprays, and ibuprofen.
Avatar f tn Hello, Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. You can confirm whether you are allergic to cats by getting allergy testing done.Skin tests and blood tests like RAST are done for this purpose.Pls consult an allergist and get them done.
Avatar m tn and some red flags for cat allergies are grains in their diet...try a grain free canned diet, dry foods are loaded in grains but also in many chemicals and preservatives as well. by the article and site I am sending you, it reads over licking can also be caused by stress.... If at all possible, eliminate the cone, this only leads to more stress on kitty. Poor kitty is quite miserable right now as it is. Also did you add anything new into your home such as anything with chemicals?
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Avatar n tn My 5 year old cat has started licking the fur off his body. He started on his lower belly and I just went away for 3 days and when I came back, he has started licking it off his paws, back and hind legs. I started both he and his brother on a different diet in which I added a small can of wet food in the morning and also gave them 1/2 as much dry food (I change the brand of dry every day.) I am so scared as he seems to be not as healthy anymore.
