440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
Avatar f tn How. Exactly will you err on side of caution? Do you realize how small a dose an average 10 lb cat would need in relation to the weight of the human it was prescribed for?
7845323 tn?1394873413 That said, Im going to monitor my cat at all times and not let her be in the nursery or room when baby is napping and so am I. My cat hasnt tried jumping in the crib so Im relieved about that too.
168348 tn?1379357075 I'll read it. Honestly, I've never owned a Siberian kitty. I'd love to own one, that's for sure. But I've never even touched one. But if they're hypoallergenic then it must mean the hair texture is different. I know Yorkshire dogs are less likely to cause allergies because of the hair type which is closer than any other breed to human hair.
11389935 tn?1417796609 Hi KCLover, Your Boyfriends cold was HIS. Your cat probably has allergies or an Upper Respiratory Infection (cat cold). Now if you cat has the herpes virus and this URI is one of the symptoms, your older cat can catch it from her. Although if they have been together for sometime they are both immune or both infected already. Theses URI will happen several times a year.
Avatar f tn Some vets will recommend benadryl to cats with allergies. Usually, those allergies are presented by a cat scratching, not a swollen throat and paw. Talk to the vet first. You need not make an apointment. Call the vet and ask him if 1 ml one or twice a day is good for her. Good luck with your kitty.
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.
5347058 tn?1381188426 sensitive commonly to a preservative or ingredient in dry kibble type food. grain allergies are common in cats and most cat foods are full of unnecessary grains just b/c they are 'cheap' fillers for the manufacturer, they do absolutely nothing for the diet!!! there are some 'grain free' diets on the market that may be a worth a trial. EVO, Wellness and Natures Variety are a few. cats can also suffer from environmental allergies....such as what you decide with your kitty.....
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar n tn Mine had all gotten URI and one started to cough; what my vet told me was as long as everything is clear, keep your cat comfy, hydrated and eating. If any mucus from nose or eyes turns yellow or green, antibiotics are needed. What he didn't say was coughing is a sign of danger and should not be ignored-one of mine started to cough but wasn't producing anything for a few days until sudddenly he coughed up a huge gob of phlegm; he had pneumonia. Happily we were abie to save him.
Avatar f tn So many dietary allergies are caused by the grains in dry cat food, you need to try something that contains no grain and no wheat gluten. In many instances, food allergies that have baffled vets and owners for years turn out to be caused by the wheat gluten in the food. Maybe try the type of diet that PrettyKitty1 has been feeding her Abby.
Avatar f tn Hello, Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. You can confirm whether you are allergic to cats by getting allergy testing done.Skin tests and blood tests like RAST are done for this purpose.Pls consult an allergist and get them done.
Avatar f tn Hi, Let's not assume bee sting. Is the whole leg swollen or just part? Is the foot and/or ankle swollen? Is your cat licking or paying special attention to a specific site on the leg? Is there any wound or mark, even a scratch on the swollen leg? It could very likely be an infection, or, since he's putting no weight on it at all, it could be broken. Either would account for swelling.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
874521 tn?1424116797 But, I can see what Dr. Becker is talking about here. And, I have used a human pharmacy in the past for my previous cat. At that time, however, I was already familiar with the dosage I needed to give to the cat for IBD, as I had picked it up so many times at the vet's office. So, by the time I started picking it up at the human pharmacy it was only a matter of saving money on the prescription.
Avatar f tn I would say your cat sneezing for 3 days tells me that it's time for a vet visit. I wouldn't assume it's allergies. Allergies usually don't show up out of the blue in a 4 yr old kitty. How high are your vet fees? Mine is around $40. If you're paying much more than that, it's time to find a new vet.
Avatar f tn First for a little back story... I have four cats (two males, two females, all different ages, strictly indoor only, declawed front and rear, and all have consumed the same food for life). Until last year, I never routinely put topical flea medication on the cats because we have never had problems with fleas. About a year ago, all my cats went to stay with my mother while I was out of town. My mother has four cats of her own, and has kept all the cats in the past.
Avatar m tn as with human flu, these result from viruses and although a healthy cat can get over these symptoms in a few days, a cat with a weak immune system can develop a URI. left untreated can progress quickly and even be fatal in older or very ill cats.. Your cat may need antibiotics if he develops an infection, DO NOT allow your Vet to talk you into an antibiotic injection called convenia...this has proven to be fatal in many cats...(you can read some previous posts), ...
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
1305767 tn?1361192676 The other thing is, and look this up in case I have it wrong, but once a cat or a human has had toxoplasmosis, they can't get it again. I know my doctor had me do a toxoplasmosis titer when I was pregnant (to see if I had had it before), and can't imagine why he would have done that if once does not confer immunity.
Avatar f tn in july of 08 i woke up one morning, my right ear starting feeling as if it was tightening all of a sudden, then i started getting dizzy and feeling sick to my stomach, it was the starting of vertigo, which i had never had or heard of before...my husband took me immediately to the doctor, he checked me and said i am swollen in nose and glands, he gave me meclizine and told me to take it every 8 hours....that was all!..
Avatar m tn Abstract Cats spontaneously develop eosinophilic airway inflammation and airway hyperreactivity that is very similar to human allergic asthma. In addition, household cats share environmental exposures to aeroallergens with humans. We review the scientific literature concerning the pathophysiology of feline asthma, including similarities to human asthma and evidence regarding environmental aeroallergen triggers.
Avatar f tn com/Natural-Factors-RxOmega-3-Factors-EPA-400-mg-DHA-200-mg-120-Softgels/2717 excessive licking can also be caused by allergies...usually to something in the environment. what kind of litter do you use? be sure its a scent free type. what do you use to clean your floors with? most cleaners are full of chemicals, try just vinegar. do you use household scents such as candles, room freshners, scented dryer sheets, perfumes, cigarrette smoke in the house?....anything with a scent to it...
Avatar f tn I looked up the cat community - best to go there I believe. http://www.medhelp.
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
1590008 tn?1297040041 My Cat who i found in a ditch at 5 weeks old, with a short kinked tail, heart murmur, and she is orange(90% of orange cats are male, mine is a girl) is 10 years old and has always been very skittish and odd. She is very affectionate and follows me around the condo. When I moved into my boyfriends apartment 2 years ago she began over grooming her belly and inner legs. It is not red of dry or irritated looking in any way, there is just no hair or very little.
