Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
118225 tn?1278654940 I was just curious if there was a long term relief for cat allergies. I have heard many people say there is a simple shot to take them away...but wonder if this is true, and how often the shot would be needed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Hi, My doctor is (strongly) recommending that I get allergy shots (Rush immunotherapy). I have allergies and allergic asthma...I sorta take a lot of medication to control both the allergies and asthma. From the information my doctor gave me, it seems like a good idea...decrease medication usage and symptoms, keep the cat, etc. I've looked up allergy shots on the Internet and it seems like all I see is how people have had bad reactions to the injections.
Avatar n tn s to test for allergies and what I do in the store I work for is put the family (or single person) in the cat room (so there is less dog dander from the other puppies) and leave them for 30-45 minutes. Play with the dog, sniff and suggle them. Think how you feel at the end of the 30-45 minutes and think honestly if you want to live like that for the next 10-15 years (in case the allergy shots don't work).
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what could cause a sudden change in allergies? I suddenly developed an allergy to everything environmental (that I've been tested for.) Every tree, grass, pet, dust mites, etc. These allergies cause swelling, breathing issues, sneezing, hives, and the list goes on. I'm 21 years old. Is there a reason behind a sudden drastic allergy change, or is this fairly common?

Avatar f tn This generally does not work with pollen allergies or pet allergies. It mostly works with allergies to stinging insects and venoms. There is a chance of an allergic reaction called anaphylaxis that involves a whole body allergic reaction. Rush immunotherapy raises the chance of having a reaction to the shots. Patients that go through rush immunotherapy treatment schedules can have reactions about a third of the time.
Avatar n tn i have been struggling with allergies for about ten years. its gotten alot worse over the last three..have been tested i am severely allergic to all tree pollens grass and ragweed pollen mold and dogs..i have tried everything ( including the drops under your tongue) nothing reaaly helps i am tired of feeling like this all time..
Avatar f tn Hello, Allergy shots (immunotherapy) do work very well for most people. Usually, you can start feeling a difference in 3 - 6 months. They take 2 - 5 years (rarely longer) to become desensitized to your allergens. The desensitization is permanent. Make sure you get true immunotherapy. These shots are small amounts of your allergens given in a controlled environment to teach your immune system to "not over react" to these normally harmless substances.
Avatar n tn I had taken a CAT scan of my head (to see nasal) and the doc said its sinusitis but he changed it as he said it was too little to be sinusitis and could be allergies (I got cat that changed his mind). He offered immunotherapy later on, should I take it?.
Avatar m tn Hi, The effectiveness of allergy shots or immunotherapy varies depending on the severity of a person's allergies and the number of substances to which the person is allergic. Immunotherapy is effective for allergies to stinging insects, a variety of pollens and dust mites, molds and pet dander, as well as for allergic asthma. However, it is not proven to be effective for hives or food allergies. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn i have really bad allergies to cat, dust, mytes, indoor allergies...... so my question is.. do i have to build up the allegra into my system for it to really work... i just found out i have had them for eight years.. so im sure my immune system is messed up since i never treated it.. i didnt know what i had....
Avatar f tn I just found out I'm pregnant and i have to do shots to help with my allergies is that gonna hurt the baby?
Avatar f tn Hi, you can maintain a diary and note down your symptoms, this may help to narrow the cause for your allergies. If you are unable to detect the cause consult an allergy specialist. First he may do a blood IgE levels to see if they are raised. Next, he will do skin testing. This test is painless, in which a very small amount of certain allergens are pricked into the surface of your skin. If you have allergies, just a little swelling will occur where the allergen was introduced.
Avatar f tn I dont know much about imminitherapy but i do know that thats normal to all of a sudden have allergies where we are not actially born wit allergies ti.amuthing its something oir body produces after.birth at any given time. One day u could be eating peanuts next day on our death bed feom.a allergic reaction. Its crazy but i hope u find aomething that helps ur aymptoms.
Avatar n tn Allergy desensitization shots or immunotherapy are an obvious and very effective way to work around a cat allergy. Immunotherapy will gradually make a person more and more resistant to the allergens. The goal of immunotherapy is to increase the tolerance 10 times. This is one of the most effective treatments because it treats the cause and doesn’t just hide the symptoms. http://purebredcatbreedrescue.org/allergy_to_cats.

975357 tn?1252704723 I am 26 and want to look into immunotherapy because since about 19 I have had severe rhinitis/ sinus problems/itchy watery eyes and itching that has gotten worse every year. Now it begins around march and goes all through ragweed season in late September early October. When I was 19 I only had mild symptoms through the month of September.
Avatar f tn I have been sick for 2 months! The first month I had bronchitis twice and This past month I've had sinus problems with a chronic sore throat. My Doctor keeps putting me on antibiotics such as z-pack along with Singulair 10 and R-Tanna tablets. None of this is working. I'm pretty sure that my problems are initially caused by my allergies(I do not have asthma), but I'm wondering if there might be another problem elsewhere.
Avatar m tn Hi, Allergy desensitization is very effective for allergies to pollen, mites, cats, and especially stinging insects such as bees, hornets, yellowjackets, wasps, velvet ants, and fire ants. Allergy immunotherapy usually takes 6 months to a year to become effective and injections are usually required for 3-5 years. If you will be given immunotherapy to garlic antigen, there is no proven effectivity to garlic odor allergy. Avoidance of the said odor is the only treatment for now.
Avatar m tn Have any of you heard about the ALK shutdown? They make immunotherapy products. Are any of you concerned about the safety of these products now? https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2017/09/21/1126032/0/en/ALK-acts-on-French-injunction-by-accelerating-investments-in-its-quality-system-at-the-French-manufacturing-facility.html http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2017/09/22/2650758-allergies-le-rappel-des-injections-de-la-gamme-iris.
Avatar m tn How are you? Allergies are extremely complex and difficult to treat. What works with somebody may not be effective to others. By simply avoiding the specific allergens could lessen the attacks. However, if everything else doesn't work, you could discuss with your doctor about immunotherapy or allergy shots. Each shot contains a tiny amount of the substances that trigger allergic reactions.
Avatar m tn I have always had allergies and sometimes I get a severe sneezing reaction- I can sneeze nonstop for a few hours- I sneeze so much that its hard for me to take breaths in between the sneezes. I sneeze so much that the next day my upper body is extremely sore. I get the itchy eyes with it as well. I have Flonaise(sp?) but have not used it consistantly. I usually take Claritin dissolve tabs which help a little. Can anyone PLEASE reccomend a better treatment.
612551 tn?1450022175 The results said he was highly allergic to pine trees (which make up our backyard) and every type of grass that grows in Louisiana (which is where we live). I decided to give immunotherapy injections and try since he was in bad shape. It was one of the best decisions I have made. 10 months later Boomer no longer has ANY skin problems. As of now he gets a 1mL injection of his immunotherapy every three weeks. He suffers from no side effects, and it is great that is skin is beautiful now.
