Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
118225 tn?1278654940 I was just curious if there was a long term relief for cat allergies. I have heard many people say there is a simple shot to take them away...but wonder if this is true, and how often the shot would be needed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn The allergy would be to cat dander, which as Linda said, is actually pollen and other irritants that migrate to cat fur. The symptoms are those typical of airborne allergies and rarely cause skin itching. However, if the cat has fleas that could certainly account for your itching.

It's called Sticky Paws. There is one other option you can try if these things don't work. It's a nail cap for the nails called Soft Paws. I learned about Soft Paws from Akira's previous owner, who was blind.
2075937 tn?1334884194 Its actually good for kids to be around animals, housemites and dirt there is research to suggest that it helps prevent allergies, and that the increase in allergies these days is because our houses are too clean so kids are not building a resistance...

996946 tn?1503249112 hmmm...I don't know who "Masy" is. I guess I meant to say might. My only defense is that it was very late and I guess I was a little on the sleepy side. Seriously though, I thought there might be some kind of leather cream that would seep into the scratches and seal them. If not, there should be!! The leather is that rust-maroon color.
Avatar f tn Now all they do is lick it. It did not work. We also bought tons of new scratchers and scratcher cat furniture and placed them around the living room next to the couch and chair to deflect them from scratching the new furniture. So far. No luck. We peppered it with Cat Nip too. No luck. Any other suggestions? The laser claw removal is a last resort. Im not comfortable with the older boys having this done. I think the babies -Elmo and Gizmo could recover better. So frustrating!
Avatar m tn Dog allergies are very common and due to saliva of the dog. “Allergy to dogs is relatively common, as dog allergen can be found in public places, including daycare facilities.” “For people with dog allergy, avoidance of dogs is the mainstay of therapy. Allergy medications are likely to help control symptoms, but in many instances symptoms may persist if the person owns one or more indoor dogs. Allergy shots may also be a good treatment option for people who are allergic to their pet dogs.
Avatar m tn The vet said since the prednisone worked on her its most likely environmental allergies from relocating to a moist humid environment with lots of pollen from a very dry desert environment. After taking her off the steroids she has continued to lick the fur off her backside, hind legs, and now starting on her front paws. I have switched her food to a limited ingredients food with salmon and green peas for her coat and skin, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Avatar m tn I have had allergies all my life and they have worsened over the years. I have been to several allergists and have had 3 regimens of allergy shots, and just about every available prescription and over the counter medication with little or no results. I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine to sleep at night. I need some help with my allergies, I am suffering with nasal drip on and off all day at work and at night at home.
Avatar f tn (like fleas) can cause allergies. Not saying your cat has fleas....just saying you might want to double check :) Good Luck.
Avatar f tn Ok all my furniture is leather and I have decided before I got pregnant that we would have no more cats after our old cat died. Well I have been doing all kinds of crazy stuff since I got pregnant... my husband and five girls wanted a kitten and a friend of ours called and asked if we wanted one. I said yes we picked it up and went kitty shopping. The next day my brother found a homeless kitten trapped in the woods behind our house in a storm and I took it in also..
Avatar f tn I have had seasonal allergies along with dust, cat and dog allergies too since 30 years ago. I finally had 5 years of allegy shot ending aroung 2005, This year has been so bad with all the pollen I feel like I'm right back to day one. My eyes are itchy, my nose runs and my palate is so itchy. I take Atrovent for post nasal drip, aerius for the allergies and I'm also on Advair 250 discuss. Why is this happening after all these years? Will it go away or am I supposed to get shots again.
Avatar m tn and some red flags for cat allergies are grains in their diet...try a grain free canned diet, dry foods are loaded in grains but also in many chemicals and preservatives as well. by the article and site I am sending you, it reads over licking can also be caused by stress.... If at all possible, eliminate the cone, this only leads to more stress on kitty. Poor kitty is quite miserable right now as it is. Also did you add anything new into your home such as anything with chemicals?
Avatar f tn Pediatrician has been treating with nasal spray (for minor nasal tissue swelling), nebulizer with albuterol, and most recently claritin. She had allergy test which revealed allergies to milk, peanuts, soy, wheat, corn, eggs. but no environmental triggers. Eliminated those things from her diet for two weeks along with taking allergy meds but no relief. Saw ENT doctor but x-rays revealed nothing abnormal so she determined that it must be the milk allergy.
Avatar n tn Three months ago my 7 year old rescue cat started urinating on the furniture. She did this about a year and a half ago and then we worked with her and she stopped. She is now doing it again. My husband thinks she is jealous of our other cat and me because she goes where I have been playing with the other cat. She has peed on the sofa, chair and a huge pillow in the living room; on the sofa in the family room and on my side of the bed.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar m tn I began taking Zyrtec for my allergies. On March 13th I got sick. I got dizzy and nauseated, throwing up, skin flushed, sensations of having a fever without temperature, thick clear mucous, bright light sensitivity, sensitivity to loud sounds, rib muscles pulling, sensitivity to cold, pain in upper left abdomen, sharp chest pains, and tremors. A week later I went into emergency thinking I was having a heart attack. Everything seemed normal with my heart and I was discharged.
Avatar n tn I had taken a CAT scan of my head (to see nasal) and the doc said its sinusitis but he changed it as he said it was too little to be sinusitis and could be allergies (I got cat that changed his mind). He offered immunotherapy later on, should I take it?.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Avatar f tn I'm a first time mom (due march 23)and have a cat that's going to be 3 in January. I've tried to introduce my cat to those of the younger crowd (no younger than 2)but she usually hisses (I have her wrapped in a towel) yet when I am lying down she comes up to me and "makes biscuits" right where the baby is positioned. Is she only hissing at the others because she's not use to them, they don't have my scent or she just doesn't like kids?
Avatar n tn Thay have tested her for acid refux, astma, had a cat scan, and xrays of her lungs. Still nothing they keep putting her on alot of meds, and nothing has worked. Neither of them are getting any sleep because she is up all night. Its even affecting her at school. What suggestions can you give me on what or even where to take her. Thanks This discussion is related to chronic dry cough.
