Avatar n tn I got out a healthy alternative book for cats and it says to give her garlic, and for her to breathe eucalyptus oil. I looked online at other sources which say garlic and eucalyptus oil are toxic to cats. I don't know what to do! I don't want to kill my cat, but she needs some relief! How do I know whats the truth? Help please!!!
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar f tn Hi, I agree with the above post by Dr. Rajput. Be careful, because if you take an antihistamine it's like putting a bandaid on a cut without cleaning it up or getting to the root ... allergies can progress with repeated exposure. My daughter and my son both get symptomatic from cats and it's progressed into asthma, etc. We don't have a cat., but did for 20yrs and both tested negative or extremely tiny positive but both reacted!
Avatar n tn Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
7845323 tn?1394873413 Cats won't care as long as you still love them too.
Avatar f tn Personally I wouldnt have any of my pets let near my baby because theyre new to the world and it can cause early on allergies and or asthma. But if you want to try it out, I would just keep an eye on the cats when they get close to baby and do my best to teach them that baby isnt a toy or another animal.
Avatar f tn What a coincidence, this is the time of the year when my husband starts to sneeze like crazy. It may just be allergies but if you feel better taking her to the vet and have her assessed then...good. If you'd rather wait, try to search online for things that can cause allergies in cats. You'll see weather changes is one of them. Also, sprays and cleaning products can cause allergies. Have you tried researching online for cats common allergies?
Avatar n tn However, you can become allergic to them years after, I had my one cat for 10 years before any allergies and 15 years before I developed asthma. If you do get one, try to keep it out of your daughters room so she has a good 8 hours without breathing in tons of cat dander.
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
Avatar m tn Thank you! And you're right, I should be tested for allergies. I don't know about most allergies except the ones I have and lactose intolerance (which I don't think I have.
Avatar f tn Usually people who are allergic to cats are really allergic to the pollen that can collect on their fur. So it's more like a hay-fever kind of allergy than an allergy to the cat. If you are itching because you work with someone who has cats...maybe it's the perfume she is wearing. I noticed you joined the cat forum, so welcome.
362249 tn?1441315018 Sometimes as well -- depending on the house, you can mitigate your allergies if they aren't severe by the places you let your cat be (for instance, not letting the cat sleep in your bed with you, even hough that's a bummer).
Avatar f tn Also, being that it was a stray I thought it was completey irresponsible for her to bring it in the house without having seen a vet first. I asked for the cat and the litter box to be left in her room to avoid any risks. I have not come in any contact with the cat at all until last night. Somehow the cat had gotten into my room and was hiding under the bed without my knowledge. After finally realizing the cat had been in the room I picked it up and put it outside of the room.
5347058 tn?1381188426 It called L-lysine and I will give you the name of the one best for use with cats. for occasional flare-ups use 500mg for a week. If you need to keep him on a continual maintenance dose use more conservatively at 250mg per day, it comes in powder form and can easily be mixed in with wet food. You should be able to buy this brand from most good Vitamin or Health Food Store. or you can order online from the source below.... http://www.****.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar m tn Hi Grabes, Just read your comments. Have you been to an allergist? Are you sure you are allergic to her cat and dog? Has an allergist actually told you that you are allergic to cat and dog dander. I had an allergy test done by an allergist many years ago. The allergist confirmed I have an allergy to cat dander, a very low one though. I have asthma too. This may sound strange , but my husband and I have a cat right now. This is our third cat, they've all been rescue cats.
Avatar f tn My husband hit 40 and got allergies to grass, horses, cats and tree pollen. He had never had allergies before. The allergist told him it's pretty common for one's reactions to things like that to change in the course of one's life.
874521 tn?1424116797 I agree, because I do the chemical free cleaning for myself already. I can see for myself that this has benefited Akira, too. My comment on your other post fits here, too. It's another funny Akira story. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Cats/WHY-do-cats-like-the-smell-of-bleach/show/1681374#post_7689129 I'm sure I speak for all the cat lovers on this forum when I say that cats are delightfully intriguing, highly intelligent unique individuals with minds of their own.
611067 tn?1458591483 My mother's cat, Roxy, sneezes a lot! She's done it the whole time we've had her (a little over 4 years). But, lately, she will sneeze and sneeze like 5 times in a row. The poor little girl! We tease and say "she's allergic to cats!" But, seriously, is their medication for cats with allergies?
118225 tn?1278654940 I was just curious if there was a long term relief for cat allergies. I have heard many people say there is a simple shot to take them away...but wonder if this is true, and how often the shot would be needed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
3140169 tn?1342848421 what does well for one cat can make another cat sick. just keep an eye on your cat and if he/she is gaining or losing weight or having issues with what you are giving them then try something else. and when you find out what works best for your cat then stick wit that.
3170462 tn?1344717552 t mean to sound obtuse, but a specialist of what? Cats? Allergies? Cat allergies? Do these specialists have a title or a specific field of study that I can begin searching for one by?
1756384 tn?1312562154 Even though I vacuum and dust continually!, cat hair gets up my nose, in my throat and "jumps" on my legs, makes me itch on my face and also seems to cause my itching uinder my breast area, around where my underwear where it is tight around the creases of my skin( inside thigh area for example). It also makes my mood suck! I have been on Singulair for one week. daily saline nose rinses, veramist nose spray. It seemed to help a little bit but now not much.
Avatar f tn the vet also told me it looked like he had allergies, so he is getting zinc, vitamin c and d and I finally found a multivitamin that he will chew. when I first got him he was eating cheap cat food. Well my dog and 2 cats are on Abady granular , its the only one that my dog Giselle doesn't have allergic reaction too, and her coat and the cats coat look great. well it took a good month before Coby would eat this.
