Avatar n tn No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!

Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar m tn ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.
Avatar f tn I have a cat that is almost 18 years old. He has always been a scar that hides from everyone. He has been hanging out with us and around the dogs and is really stuffy. He has a lot of snot in his nose, it is hard for him to breathe, he gags and coughs and has runny eyes. My husband just thinks he is old with allergies but I'm concerned. I dissolve his food in water and crush it up and he drinks and eats fine. Not sure what to do? Can I give him something for the allergies?
Avatar n tn My main symptoms? Itchy eyes. I get one cat hair near me and my eyes turn red, swell, start watering and then itch horribly. This is a common allergic reaction to cats. If it is a new cough, I'd say it's likely a virus and coughs linger with that. Once the air way is irritated, the cough will stay for a bit. But all allergies I suffer and my son involve itchiness. Itchy nasal cavity, itchy sinus or itchy eyes. I'm guessing your cats are not the problem.
Avatar f tn My cat is 18 months old and has started to rip her fur out above her tail, her eyes and down her front leg, she only started doing this when I moved house and got another cat, is this normal?
Avatar n tn Sudden onset or temporary clear discharge from the eyes can be caused by injury (although this is unlikely if the discharge is from both eyes), allergic reaction or an upper respiratory tract infection - just like when humans get watery eyes when suffering from a cold. If your cat has a respiratory infection he is likely to also develop a wet nose.
Avatar f tn My cat Cosmo is 10 months old, male, neutered. When I adopted him about 8 months ago, I had to take him to the vet twice to treat eye discharge and runny nose. It seemed to get better for a while, but his eyes continue to leak gooey discharge every day. I wipe them clean at least twice a day if not more. My other cat Kramer was adopted at the same time, from the same place, and had even more health problems in the beginning, does not get this eye discharge. What is wrong with my cat?
Avatar f tn I agree with what others said, Good luck - we have a cat who has allergies and we think she might actually be allergic to the other cats - LOL! But, she's doing very well even with the allergies.
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.
5347058 tn?1381188426 I have a 2 year old male cat and he suffers from the occasional runny nose and watery eyes. It seems to start right about the time my allergies get bad. It lasts for a couple of days and then he is fine. I was just curious because he acts fine other than the few symptoms he has.
Avatar f tn I have allergies, dust, hay fever, cat hair ect.... not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. During my last pregancey my symptoms actually went away but not this time...
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what could cause a sudden change in allergies? I suddenly developed an allergy to everything environmental (that I've been tested for.) Every tree, grass, pet, dust mites, etc. These allergies cause swelling, breathing issues, sneezing, hives, and the list goes on. I'm 21 years old. Is there a reason behind a sudden drastic allergy change, or is this fairly common?
Avatar f tn (like fleas) can cause allergies. Not saying your cat has fleas....just saying you might want to double check :) Good Luck.
Avatar m tn Even if you do not have previous allergic reaction to the cat, the cat can still indirectly cause your allergies to flare up. Aside from possible reaction to the shampoo used by the animal, other allergen such as pollen, mold, and other allergens may be responsible and these can stick to the cat's fur.Antihistamine medication may help provide relief. If it persists, you may need to have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
1232362 tn?1333135406 no discharge from nose/eyes. is this something to bo concerned with? i have 2 other cats who do not snore.
753096 tn?1233582336 Hello, Yes,you can become allergic to even cats or dogs. Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. After moving in a new house, people can become allergic to even dust mites and molds.
Avatar f tn The allergy would be to cat dander, which as Linda said, is actually pollen and other irritants that migrate to cat fur. The symptoms are those typical of airborne allergies and rarely cause skin itching. However, if the cat has fleas that could certainly account for your itching.
7639611 tn?1392877261 Only a skin test (that tests for cat allergy) will rule out for sure whether it is cat allergy or not. If it is cat allergy, then if you do not take anti-allergic pills, the symptoms will resurface time and again. You can again start the medications (after consulting a doctor) to see if your symptoms subside. Also, you could live away from the cat for a day or two and see if your symptoms improve. However, it would be best to consult a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn It is more than likely from allergies. Wash your eyes with baby soap daily especially if you come in from outside. Wash all the pollen off of your body and out of your hair, then wash your eyes with the baby soap.
440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
