Common Questions and Answers about Cat allergies exposure

cat-allergies

Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar n tn Best way of management would be avoid further exposure. You need to keep the cat away from you. As for symptoms are concerned anti histaminics can be taken whenever there is attack and refrain from nasal decongestants (should only be used for 3-4 days intermittently). I suggest you to undergo skin allergy test. I suggest you to consult dermatologist for further management. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn I know this question may sound ridiculous but are people with hiv more prone to allergies? I've been having allergies for the past month or so to my cat or something in my house that i have never had a problem with before. Could this be a sign that i have hiv? I've only had one high risk behavior in my life and that was about 9 months ago when a condom broke on me. THe girl said she is 100 percent sure she has nothing but that is not really enough assurance for me.
Avatar f tn Cant someone else take the cat for a few days for him to see if the cat is having an effect? That may be only way he will find out.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar f tn The rash could have started due to exposure to some thing like a necklace, over exposure to sun or heat and persisted. Do you recall any such incident? It could also be psoriasis. Rashes are also associated with Hashimoto’s and may be generalized or localized. With a family history and Hashimoto’s the chances are the rash is due to this reason only. However this would also require you to undergo some tests to check your immunoglobulin levels. An allergy panel needs to be done.
Avatar f tn I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else. Thanks.
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
Avatar f tn over the next couple weeks i started getting vertigo whenever it felt like my ear was starting to open it would last 2 hours to 10 hours, not getting any answers from my doctor, i went to the emergency rm.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar n tn Having several allergies, including many outdoors one (trees, grass, mold, and oas resulting) as well as some food allergies, and also pet allergies, i finally went to see an allergist earlier this year. He prescribed veramist for my seasonal allergies and suggested that i take a combination of NASALCROM(nasal), PATADAY(eyes), and intol (chest), ten minutes before entering a home with cats. Initially i saw great results with no allergies for about 3 or 4 hours.
5655568 tn?1371757104 hi roni, I will just send a link to another post I replied to recently...with some info. this is very likely an allergic reaction to food or something in the environment, doesn't mean that anything was recently changed..all allergies build up over time from constant exposure. Post again I am out for awhile and will get back to u asap.... http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Cats/Cat-licking-fur-off/show/1937471?
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
Avatar f tn Something I hadn’t done in 12 years. Then I started to get allergies to everything. Food, cat, dog. Everything I went near I had a reaction to. Then I couldn’t be around any perfume or smells or I would get a severe asthma attack. I couldn’t go into my apartment for more than 15 minutes without coughing and my eyes itching and just being miserable. I stopped eating all yeast and sugar and ate only vegetables and protein. Still….no help. The smallest little thing would set me off.
Avatar n tn When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar m tn Greetings! My name is Tom and I suffer from severe non- food related allergies. Although they can be controlled, I find that my allergic reaction to dogs is so strong that drugs have little effect. The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
7165624 tn?1395647767 I have allergies im wondering if i can buy certain pills or what do you do when u get them??
Avatar m tn ve had an allergy test this is why you know that you are have animal dander allergies. Do you have a dog, cat , bunny or hamster as a pet ? Just wondering. Be well.
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
Avatar m tn I am very frazzled! I have been at war with allergies my whole life. It was not until my teens that I started to develop a horrible rash that would appear with bad allergies. I was tested when i was younger (9 yr or younger) and it was decided that I was allergic to trees, pollen, mold, animal dander, dust, grass etc. I got my shots for many years and was stopped. I was retested right before i got pregnant bc i was struggling with the rash and allergies bad.
Avatar n tn My female cat whos about 5 and spayed, has been straining to poop and also has been furiously licking her bottom area and also one of her legs is down to the skin. Is this an allergy to litter, or food or ?
Avatar m tn t know why that is impacting his life, but it sounds like the cat has anxiety. Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. If they feel that is the reason, they can give the cat a shot that will temporarily relieve the itching for about a month.
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
Avatar n tn I was hoping we would have come away with more information, and an actual diagnoses. To add to the mix we just adopted a cat a few weeks ago. My husband and I both have pet allergies, but he's never experienced anything this severe before. So now we're not sure what the cause is. I'm worried that this will happen again, and am looking for more answers before we consider giving away our cat. Any help, or insights would be appreciated!
